The human gastrointestinal (GI) tract has been bestowed with the most difficult task of protecting the underlying biological compartments from the resident commensal flora and the potential pathogens in transit through the GI tract. It has a unique environment in which several defence tactics are at play while maintaining homeostasis and health. The GI tract shows myriad number of environmental extremes, which includes pH variations, anaerobic conditions, nutrient limitations, elevated osmolarity etc., which puts a check to colonization and growth of nonfriendly microbial strains. The GI tract acts as a highly selective barrier/platform for ingested food and is the primary playground for balance between the resident and uninvited organisms. This review focuses on antimicrobial defense mechanisms of different sections of human GI tract. In addition, the protective mechanisms used by microbes to combat the human GI defence systems are also discussed. The ability to survive this innate defence mechanism determines the capability of probiotic or pathogen strains to confer health benefits or induce clinical events respectively. 相似文献

Hydrolytic activities of anaerobic fungi from wild blue bull (Boselaphus tragocamelus) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The anaerobic fungi play an active role in the plant fibre degradation by producing a wide array of potential hydrolytic enzymes in the rumen. In present study, 12 anaerobic fungal strains were isolated from the faecal samples of wild blue bull, and identified as species of Piromyces, Anaeromyces, Orpinomyces and Neocallimastix based on their morphological characteristics. Isolate WNG-12 (Piromyces sp.), showed maximum filter paper cellulase (23 mIU ml(-1)) and xylanase (127 mIU ml(-1)) activity, while WNG-5 (Piromyces sp.) showed maximum carboxymethyl cellulase activity (231 mIU ml(-1)). Based on the results obtained, it can be stated that Piromyces sp. WNG-12 may be a promising isolate in utilizing fibre rich diets in the rumen as evidenced by the production of hydrolytic enzymes in vitro. 相似文献

In the present study, anaerobic fungi were isolated from different ruminants and non-ruminants; i.e., cattle, buffalo, sheep,
goats, wild bluebulls, elephants, deer, and zebras; and were identified as Anaeromyces, Orpinomyces, Caecomyces, Piromyces, and Neocallimastix sp., based on their morphological characteristics. These isolates possessed significant in vitro hydrolytic enzyme activities;
however, an isolate of Caecomyces sp. from elephant was found to exhibit maximum activity, i.e., filter paper cellulase (Fpase; 21.4 mIU/ml), carboxymethyl
cellulose (CMCase; 15.1 mIU/ml), cellobiase (37.4 mIU/ml), and xylanase (26.0 mIU/ml). Besides, this isolate also showed the
significantly highest ability to digest plant cell-wall contents in vitro. The in vitro dry matter digestibility increased
from 45.1 to 48.9% after 48 h of incubation, and the plant cell-wall contents, in terms of neutral detergent fiber and acid
detergent fiber, decreased from 64.2 to 61.3% and from 31.3 to 29.6%, respectively. These results indicate that such fibrolytic
ruminal fungal strains are prevalent in wild herbivores such as elephants, as well as in other ruminants and non-ruminants,
and could be exploited as microbial feed additives for improved nutrition and productivity in domesticated ruminants. 相似文献

In order to improve the digestibility and nutrient availability in rumen, wheat straw was subjected to solid state fermentation
(SSF) with white-rot fungi (i.e. Pleurotus ostreatus and Trametes versicolor) and the fermented biomass (called myco-straw) was evaluated for biochemical, enzymatic and nutritional parameters. The fungal
treatment after 30 days led to significant decrease (P < 0.05) in cell wall constituents viz, acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), hemicellulose, lignin and
cellulose to the extent of 35.00, 38.88, 45.00, 37.48 and 37.86%, respectively in P. ostreatus fermented straw, while 30.04, 33.85, 39.90, 31.29 and 34.00%, respectively in T. versicolor fermented straw. However, maximum efficiency of fermentation in terms of low carbohydrate consumption per unit of lignin
degradation, favoring cattle feed production was observed for P. ostreatus on the 10th day (17.12%) as compared with T. versicolor on the 30th day (16.91%). The myco-straw was found to contain significantly high (P < 0.05) crude protein (CP; 4.77% T. versicolor, 5.08% P. ostreatus) as compared to control straw (3.37%). Metabolizable energy (ME, MJ/kg DM), percent organic matter digestibility (OMD) and
short chain fatty acids (SCFAs; mmol) production also increased considerably from control straw (4.40, 29.91 and 0.292) to
a maximum up to P. ostreatus fermented straw (4.92, 33.39 and 0.376 on 20th day) and T. versicolor fermented straw (4.66, 31.74 and 0.334 on 10th day), respectively. Moreover, the myco-straw had lower organic carbon and
was rich in nitrogen with lower C/N ratio as compared to control wheat straw. Results suggest that the fungal fermentation
of wheat straw effectively improved CP content, OM digestibility, SCFAs production, ME value and simultaneously lowered the
C/N ratio, thus showing potential for bioconversion of lignin rich wheat straw into high energy cattle feed. 相似文献

Background
This paper introduces the notion of optimizing different norms in the dual problem of support vector machines with multiple kernels. The selection of norms yields different extensions of multiple kernel learning (MKL) such as L ∞, L 1, and L 2 MKL. In particular, L 2 MKL is a novel method that leads to non-sparse optimal kernel coefficients, which is different from the sparse kernel coefficients optimized by the existing L ∞ MKL method. In real biomedical applications, L 2 MKL may have more advantages over sparse integration method for thoroughly combining complementary information in heterogeneous data sources. 相似文献9.

This study presents the suitability of D1/D2 domain of large-subunit (LSU) ribosomal DNA (rDNA) for differentiation of Orpinomyces joyonii and Orpinomyces intercalaris based on PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). A variation of G/T in O. intercalaris created an additional restriction site for AluI, which was used as an RFLP marker. The results demonstrate adequate heterogeneity in the LSU rDNA for species-level differentiation. 相似文献

The Indian black berry (Syzygium cumini Skeels) has a great nutraceutical and medicinal properties. As in other fruit crops, the
fruit characteristics are important attributes for differentiation were also determined for different accessions of S. cumini. The fruit
weight, length, breadth, length: breadth ratio, pulp weight, pulp content, seed weight and pulp: seed ratio significantly varied in
different accessions. Molecular characterization was carried out using PCR based RAPD technique. Out of 80 RAPD primers, only
18 primers produced stable polymorphisms that were used to examine the phylogenetic relationship. A sum of 207 loci were
generated out of which 201 loci found polymorphic. The average genetic dissimilarity was 97 per cent among jamun accessions.
The phylogenetic relationship was also determined by principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) that explained 46.95 per cent
cumulative variance. The two-dimensional PCoA analysis showed grouping of the different accessions that were plotted into four
sub-plots, representing clustering of accessions. The UPGMA (r = 0.967) and NJ (r = 0.987) dendrogram constructed based on the
dissimilarity matrix revealed a good degree of fit with the cophenetic correlation value. The dendrogram grouped the accessions
into three main clusters according to their eco-geographical regions which given useful insight into their phylogenetic
relationships. 相似文献
