Summary The VA-infected wheat varieties showed an increase of total (Lozano var.) and reducing (Lozano and Pane vars.) sugars in their root extracts. However, no clear relationship between sugar concentration in the root and VA mycorrhizal infection level could be established.In addition, the VA mycorrhizal hosts sorghum, alfalfa, sunflower and maize, and non-host radish and cabbage plants were tested for sugar content in their root extracts after fifteen days of growth. Summary The effect of the carbamate herbicides Chlorpropham, Sulfallate and Phenmedipham, which are believed to inhibit photosynthesis, on VA mycorrhizal infection and on plant growth, were examined. Foliar spraying of Phenmedipham decreased the root concentration of total and reducing sugars and the fungal metabolism (using a staining reaction for succinate dehydrogenase as indicator) 48 h after application. However, all three carbamate herbicides tested, whether applied by foliar spray or directly to soil, did not affect the amount of VA mycorrhizal infection present at the end of the experiment. These herbicides decreased plant growth when they were applied to soil. But when the herbicides were sprayed only Phenmedipham, applied at high concentrations, decreased plant growth. Moreover, our results show that VA mycorrhizas may help plants recover from the deleterious effect of Phenmedipham. 相似文献

Tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-)is edematogenic and has been associated with the etiology of otherforms of adult respiratory distress syndrome. In the sheep lymphfistula model, we measured TNF- after 48 (n = 7) or 128 (n = 3) breaths of cotton smoke andcompared this with sham controls (n = 5) or controls in which left atrial pressure was elevated to 20 mmHg(n = 5) to increase lymph flow in the absence of inflammation. Smoke induced a rise in lymph flow and pulmonary arterial pressure with either no fall in lymph-to-plasma protein ratio (128 breaths) or a modest fall in lymph-to-plasma proteinratio (48 breaths), consistent with a change in microvascular permeability as well as a rise in microvascular pressure.Lymph concentration of TNF- fell in both groups, although lymph flux (concentration × flow) transiently rose in both. In neither case did TNF- flux exceed that induced by left atrial pressure elevation. TNF- was detectable in only one out of five sheep in alveolar lavage. Thus, by utilizing a sensitive and specific radioimmunoassay, we were unable to demonstrate a role for TNF- in smoke-induced microvascular lung injury in sheep. 相似文献

Although members of the Oxalidaceae family have been described as host plants of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Oxalis pes-caprae did not become colonized by Glomus mosseae. Extracts of Ox. pes-caprae root inhibited the germination of G. mosseae spores. Cellulase was produced by Trichoderma viride in semisolid cultures of rice bran, rice straw and rice hulls. T. viride QM 9414 generally produced higher cellulolytic activity on CM-cellulose (Cx activity) using rice bran-rice hull mixture (2:1 w/w) as substrate compared to strains ITCC 1433 and D 4014.
