Genotoxic effects of bromoform and chloroform, disinfection by-products of the chlorination of drinking water, were examined by using mitotic index (MI), mitotic phase, chromosome aberrations (CAs) and comet assay on root meristematic cells of Allium cepa. Different concentrations of bromoform (25, 50, 75 and 100 μg/mL) and chloroform (25, 50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) were introduced to onion tuber roots. Distilled water was used as a negative control and methyl methansulfonate (MMS-10 μg/mL) as positive control. All obtained data were subjected to statistical analyses by using SPSS 15.0 for Windows software. For comparison purposes, Duncan multiple range tests by using one-way analysis of variance were employed and p < 0.05 was accepted as significant value. Exposure of both chemicals (except 25 μg/mL applications of bromoform) significantly decreased MI. Bromoform and chloroform (except 25 μg/mL applications) increased total CAs in Allium anaphase-telophase test. A significant increase in DNA damage was also observed at all concentrations of both bromoform and chloroform examined by comet assay. The damages were higher than that of positive control especially at 75–100 μg/mL for bromoform and 100–200 μg/mL for chloroform.  相似文献

The effluents derived from the processing of table olives stand for a serious environmental problem. The study aims to valorize the brine water of table olives at different stages of ripening (green and black) of the Algerian variety Sigoise of Bejaia (East) and Mascara (West). The physico-chemical characterization revealed that these samples display have a high acid pH and salinity. The comparative study of phenolic levels exhibited showed very significant differences between the brine waters of green olives from Bejaia and Mascara, while the brines of black olives presented showed comparable levels. A high strong antioxidant potential was confirmed by DPPH (CI50=0.35 μg/100 ml–0.50 μg/100 ml) and FRAP (CI50=626.89 μg/100 ml–875.54 μg/100 ml) tests. Chemical screening by HPLC-DAD of the four samples identified high concentrations of hydroxytyrosol (HT) (390.4 mg/100 ml–360.8 mg/100 ml) and tyrosol (202.2 mg/100 ml–101.4 mg/100 ml). This study provided a deeper insight into the phenolic profile and the antioxidant potential of these brines.  相似文献

Six strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from different biotopes were cultivated on oilseed crop pea- or chickpea-based media, supplemented with the usual nitrogen supplements, yeast extract, meat extract or tryptic casein peptone. Growth was compared to that recorded on the widely used MRS and M17 media. All the media tested favoured growth of the selected strains, since the final c.f.u. gained at least 3 logs. Vegetal substrate (pea) appeared especially efficient for growth of a LAB species isolated from plants, Lactobacillus plantarum, illustrating the relationship between the supplementation used and the natural biotope of the LAB strain; during growth on oilseed crop pea- and chickpea-based media, the final c.f.u. was 0.58 and 1.28 log higher than the final cell numeration recorded on the reference medium MRS. The better efficiency of chickpea to stimulate LAB growth, if compared to oilseed crop pea, must be related to its higher protein content, 24.15 ± 0.1 and 28.2 ± 0.5% respectively. A vegetal substrate with high protein content can be therefore used to replace, at least partially, the usual nitrogen supplements.  相似文献
