Phyllanthus niruri extract is extensively used in treating liver ailments. Effects of aqueous extract of P. niruri on liver, kidney and testes of CCl4 induced hepatotoxic rats were studied. High levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) were observed in the CCl4 test group with significant reduction of MDA levels in all groups on P. niruri extract administration. Highest levels of glutathione (GSH) were found in P. niruri group. Activities of alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase and alkaline phosphatase enzymes were significantly reduced in the curative group (P. niruri treatment after CCl4 injection). Histopathology of liver showed lesser degree of inflammation in all P. niruri treated groups while the renal and seminiferous tubules showed eosinophilic protein casts with signs of tubular damage and degeneration. Testes also showed decreased amount of mature spermatozoa. The results suggest that P. niruri has anti-oxidant and hepato-protective activity with associated deleterious effects on kidney and testes.  相似文献

A facile procedure for the study of inactivation temperatures of enzymes that could be stained for activity after electrophoresis is described. This is particularly suitable for enzymes that have multiple electrophoretic forms. The results of studies on Drosophila dehydrogenases and acetylcholinesterase are presented. Various acrylic esters were synthesized by Candida cylindracea lipase (CCL) catalysed transesterification with different alcohols. A comparative study was carried out using 2,3-butanedione mono-oxime acrylate and vinyl acrylate as acylating agents. The rate of conversion was faster when oxime acrylate was used as acylating agent as compared to vinyl acrylate. Effect of solvents on the rate of conversion was studied and diisopropyl ether (DIPE) was proved to be a better solvent as compared to CHCl3 and THF. The effect of various structural aspects of the substrates on the rate of conversion was studied. Among the linear alcohols studied, ease of conversion was found to be in the order of n-octanol>n-hexanol>n-butanol. Up to 80% conversion was achieved in the case of cyclohexyl methanol.  相似文献

The methacrylate ester of citronellol was synthesized using various lipases as catalyst. The effect of different reaction parameters such as amount of lipase, solvent, temperature, and acylating agent on the conversion of citronellol to citronellyl methacrylate was studied. Methyl methacrylate, vinyl methacrylate, and 2,3-butanedione mono-oxime methacrylate were used as acylating agents. Porcine pancreatic lipase (PPL), Candida rugosa lipase (CRL), and Pseudomonas cepacia lipase (Amano-PS) were used as biocatalysts. Diisopropyl ether (DIPE) was found to be the most suitable solvent. The stereoselectivity of CRL in transesterification of (+/-)-citronellol was tested for the optimized reaction parameters.  相似文献

The field of epigenetics has grown explosively in the past two decades or so. As currently defined, epigenetics deals with heritable, metastable and usually reversible changes that do not involve alterations in DNA sequence, but alter the way that information encoded in DNA is utilized. The bulk of current research in epigenetics concerns itself with mitotically inherited epigenetic processes underlying development or responses to environmental cues (as well as the role of mis-regulation or dys-regulation of such processes in disease and ageing), i.e., epigenetic changes occurring within individuals. However, a steadily growing body of evidence indicates that epigenetic changes may also sometimes be transmitted from parents to progeny, meiotically in sexually reproducing organisms or mitotically in asexually reproducing ones. Such transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TEI) raises obvious questions about a possible evolutionary role for epigenetic ‘Lamarckian’ mechanisms in evolution, particularly when epigenetic modifications are induced by environmental cues. In this review I attempt a brief overview of the periodically reviewed and debated ‘classical’ TEI phenomena and their possible implications for evolution. The review then focusses on a less-discussed, unique kind of protein-only epigenetic inheritance mediated by prions. Much remains to be learnt about the mechanisms, persistence and effects of TEI. The jury is still out on their evolutionary significance and how these phenomena should be incorporated into evolutionary theory, but the growing weight of evidence indicates that likely evolutionary roles for these processes need to be seriously explored.  相似文献
