The aim of the study was to map the distribution of Acacia senegal and its infraspecific taxa in Uganda and predict its suitable range of occurrence based on climatic factors. The distribution of the infraspecific taxa was analysed for richness, diversity, turnover and reserve selection. Regression analysis was performed to understand the relationship between distribution of the species and climatic variables. Georeferenced species occurrence points were superimposed over temperature and vapour maps. Areas with highest taxa richness, diversity and turnover were mapped and found in the Lake Kyoga basin. The species shows preference for the northern region of the study area with dissimilar climatic pattern from the southern region and the superimposition supported findings. Variety kerensis exhibited narrower climatic, altitudinal and distribution range preference. Temperature seasonality, maximum temperature of warmest month, temperature annual range, mean temperatures of warmest and driest quarters had the highest coefficients of determination (r2 > 0.7) hence most important in influencing species distribution. The most appropriate locations for in situ conservation and for germplasm collection to ensure maximum diversity is secured are found in Wabisi‐Wajala, Kiula, Kyalubanga, Bajo, Kasagala, Kabwika‐mujwalanganda, Maruzi, Moroto and Napak Central Forest Reserves. The study recommends ecological studies to understand status of A. senegal.  相似文献

Objectives

We aimed to determine for the first time the prevalence and severity of multidimensional problems in a population newly diagnosed with HIV at outpatient clinics in Africa.

Methods

Recently diagnosed patients (within previous 14 days) were consecutively recruited at 11 HIV clinics in Kenya and Uganda. Participants completed a validated questionnaire, the African Palliative Outcome Scale (POS), with three underpinning factors. Ordinal logistic regression was used to evaluate risk factors for prevalence and severity of physical, psychological, interpersonal and existential problems.

Results

There were 438 participants (62% female, 30% with restricted physical function). The most prevalent problems were lack of help and advice (47% reported none in the previous 3 days) and difficulty sharing feelings. Patients with limited physical function reported more physical/psychological (OR = 3.22) and existential problems (OR = 1.54) but fewer interpersonal problems (OR = 0.50). All outcomes were independent of CD4 count or ART eligibility.

Conclusions

Patients at all disease stages report widespread and burdensome multidimensional problems at HIV diagnosis. Newly diagnosed patients should receive assessment and care for these problems. Effective management of problems at diagnosis may help to remove barriers to retention in care.  相似文献

A key constraint in successfully obtaining an effective inoculant is overcoming difficulties in formulating a viable and user-friendly final product and maintaining the microbial cells in a competent state. Co-cultures of rhizobia and PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) are a logical next subject for formulation researchers as they can influence the efficacy of rhizobia. A greenhouse experiment was set to assess the formulation effect of one strain i.e. Bradyrhizobium japonicum, 532c (granules, liquid and broth) and also to determine the efficiency of co-inoculation of Bacillus with two commercial strains of B. japonicum (532c and RCR 3407) on 2 soybean (Glycine max L.) varieties. PCR-RFLP analysis was used to determine the nodule occupancy in each treatment. Most of the inoculants showed increased nodulation and biomass yields (by approximately 2-5 and 4-10 g plant(-1) respectively) as compared to the uninoculated controls. TGx1740-2F showed no significant differences in nodule fresh weights for the formulation effect while the co-inoculants increased the nodule fresh weights by up to 4 g plant(-1). The liquid and granule-based inoculants induced higher biomass yields (4-8 g plant(-1)) suggesting a possible impact of formulation on the effectiveness of the inoculants. The co-inoculants also gave higher yields but showing no significant differences to the rhizobial inoculants. Nodule occupancy was 100 % for the rhizobial inoculants as well as the co-inoculants emphasizing the infectivity and high competitiveness of 532c and RCR 3407 strains despite the high population of indigenous rhizobia.  相似文献

This study evaluated the efficacy of the foliage-dwelling predator Orius laevigatus, soil applied entomopathogens and azadirachtin alone and in combinations for controlling western flower thrips (WFT). Evaluated products were Nemastar® Steinernema carpocapsae (E-nema) and O. laevigatus (Re-natur), Metarhizium anisopliae isolate ICIPE-69 and NeemAzal-T (azadirachtin) (Trifolio). Efficacy against WFT was significantly improved by combined treatments achieving 62–97 % reduction in WFT emergence, compared to 45–74 % in single treatments, and interactions resulted in two synergistic and eight additive responses. Metarhizium-based treatments reduced WFT survival by 93–99.6 % when late mortality by mycosis was considered. Halving the number of released predators did not significantly reduce efficacy (86–96 vs. 76–88 % thrips reduction), and when Orius was introduced to target L1 of WFT, 96–98 % reduction was achieved while only 71–89 % for L2. Early release of O. laevigatus and combination with soil application of NeemAzal-T and/or entomopathogens can be a successful and reliable biocontrol strategy for WFT.  相似文献
