The pH of the rat intestinal tract was decreased by the presence of a microbial flora, but its influence in the forestomach is less clear. Stomach pH values varied according to the amount of food present at the time of measurement. Fasting increased the pH of the gastrointestinal tract in conventional rats but had little effect in germfree rats. In the conventional rat, feeding a purified diet compared with a commercial diet resulted in a lower pH in the forestomach and a higher pH in the caecal contents. Magnesium trisilicate promoted gastric emptying in conventional rats and its antacid effect was observed only in the caecum and colon.  相似文献

1. Soleus, extensor digitorum longus (EDL) or hemi-diaphragm muscles of the rat were incubated in the presence of insulin and rates of the processes of glycolysis and glycogen synthesis were measured. 2. The concentrations of insulin required to cause half-maximal stimulation of glycolysis in both soleus and EDL preparations were significantly decreased by the presence of adenosine deaminase in the medium. 3. Adenosine deaminase increased the sensitivity of the process of hexose transport to insulin (in an identical manner to the change in sensitivity of glycolysis) in the EDL preparation. 4. None of the adenosine mediated effects on insulin-stimulated rates of glycolysis were observed in the hemi-diaphragm preparation or on the rates of glycogen synthesis in any of the three muscle preparations. 5. Therefore, changes in the adenosine system in skeletal muscle influence insulin sensitivity regardless of fibre type composition of the muscle.  相似文献

The distribution of mutagenic activity in red, rose and white wines   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Using a modified Salmonella typhimurium TA98 Ames-test system, more than 150 red, white and rose wines were analyzed for direct-acting and microsomal enzyme-enhanced mutagenic activity. The following conclusions were reached from analysis of this wine mutagenicity data base. White and rose wines, as well as grape juices, exhibited little or no detectable direct-acting or microsomal enzyme-enhanced mutagenic activity. However, red wine samples contained highly variable amounts of mutagens, ranging from undetectable to levels 30-fold above the sensitivity limit of the assay system. The variations in red wine mutagenicity were unrelated to grape variety, vintage, aging methods or production region. Hence, individual winery production practices must represent the most significant contribution to the variations observed.  相似文献

The measurement of pulmonary mechanics has been developed extensively for adults, and these techniques have been applied directly to neonates and infants. However, the compliant chest wall of the infant frequently predisposes to chest wall distortion, especially when there is a low dynamic lung compliance (CL,dyn). We describe a technique of directly measuring the static chest wall compliance (Cw,st), developed initially in the newborn lamb and subsequently applied to the premature neonate with chest wall distortion. The mean CL,dyn in seven intubated newborn lambs in normoxia was 2.45 +/- 0.41 ml.cmH2O-1.kg-1, whereas Cw,st was 11.81 +/- 0.25 ml.cmH2O-1.kg-1. These values did not change significantly in seven animals breathing through a tight-fitting face mask or with hypercapnia-induced tachypnea. For the eight premature infants the mean CL,dyn was 1.35 +/- 0.36 ml.cmH2O-1.kg-1, whereas the mean Cw,st was 3.16 +/- 1.01 ml.cmH2O-1.kg-1. This study shows that, under relaxed conditions when measurements of static compliance are performed, the chest wall is more compliant than the lung. The measurement of Cw,st may thus be used to determine the contribution of the respiratory musculature in stabilizing the chest wall.  相似文献

The activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and the density of muscarinic cholinergic binding receptors (mCBR) were measured in brains from normal Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) and from quail after lethal intoxication with diazinon. These were measured in brains from whole heads held at 25 C for 0 to 8 days after death. The maximum relative loss of activity due to post mortem decomposition alone during 8 days was 13% and 10% for AChE and mCBR, respectively. During post mortem decomposition, the ratio of AChE: mCBR activities remained constant at approximately 1.3:1 in normal brains while it was always less than or equal to 0.5:1 after intoxication with diazinon. Normal AChE activity could be estimated from mCBR density. Parallel measurement of AChE and mCBR may assist in the post mortem diagnosis of death due to acute poisoning with anti-cholinesterase pesticides when control specimens are not available.  相似文献

Summary Fusion of a highly purified fraction of rat liver peroxisomal membranes to planar lipid bilayers incorporates large, cation-selective voltage-dependent pores. TheP K/P Cl ratio of these pores, estimated in KCl gradients, is close to 4. The pores display several conductance states and spend most of the time open at voltages near 0 mV, closing at more positive and negative voltages. At voltages near 0 mV the most frequent open state has a conductance of 2.4 nS in 0.3m KCl. At voltages more positive and more negative than 10 mV the most frequent open state displays a conductance of 1.2 nS in 0.3m KCl. With these results pore diameters of 3 and 1.5 nm, respectively, can be estimated. We suggest that these pores might account for the unusually high permeability of peroxisomes to low molecular weight solutes. Fusion also incorporates a perfectly anion-selective, two-open states channel with conductances of 50 and 100 pS in 0.1m KCl.  相似文献

Summary Mutations (crsA47 and crsA4) in the major sigma factor gene (rpoD) of Bacillus subtilis RNA polymerase have been found to be powerful intergenic suppressors of spoOB, spoOE, spoOF, spoOK and spoIIG mutations. The crsA47 suppressor restores sporulation of spoOE, spoOF, spoOK and spoIIG mutants to levels near those of wild type bacteria and substantially improves the sporulation of a spoOB strain. The crsA mutations are shown to prevent the induction by aliphatic alcohols of SpoO phenocopies in wild type B. subtilis cells.  相似文献

Proton NMR studies of N,N-diethylformamide (def) exchange on [M(Me6tren)def]2+ where M = Co and Cu yield: kex (298.2K) = 26.3 ± 2.2, 980 ± 70 s−1; ΔH = 58.3 ± 1.7, 36.3 ± 0.9 kJ mol−1; ΔS= −22.2 ± 4.6, −65.9 ± 2.5 J K−1 mol−1; and ΔV = −1.3 ± 0.2, 5.3 ± 0.3 cm3 mol−1 respectively. These data which are consistent with a and d activation modes operating when M = Co and Cu respectively are compared with data for related systems.  相似文献
