Alveolar liquid pressures in newborn and adult rabbit lungs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
To study the effects of lung maturation and inflation on alveolar liquid pressures, we isolated lungs from adult and newborn rabbit pups (1-11 days old). We used the micropuncture technique to measure alveolar liquid pressure at several transpulmonary pressures on lung deflation. Alveolar liquid pressure was greater than pleural pressure but less than airway pressure at all transpulmonary pressures. Alveolar liquid pressure decreased further below airway pressure with lung inflation. At high transpulmonary pressure, alveolar liquid pressure was less in newborn than in adult lungs. To study the effects of edema, we measured alveolar liquid pressures in newborn lungs with different wet-to-dry weight ratios. Alveolar liquid pressure increased with progressive edema. In addition, we compared alveolar liquid and perivenular interstitial pressures in perfused newborn lungs and found that they were similar. Thus alveolar liquid pressure can be used to estimate perivenular interstitial pressure. We conclude that the transvascular pressure gradient for fluid flux into the interstitium might increase with lung inflation and decrease with progressive edema. Furthermore, this gradient might be greater in newborn than adult lungs at high inflation pressures.  相似文献

In lepidoptera the spermatophore is deposited in a bursa copulatrix, which is lined by a cuticle through which solubilized components of the spermatophore must be absorbed by the underlying epithelium. This study follows the route taken by the phosphorus which, with calcium, forms a significant portion of the spermatophore of Calpodes ethlius in the form of homogeneous, amorphous concretions. Lead nitrate was used in the primary fixative to precipitate the phosphorus in order to follow the pathway taken by it through the cuticle and bursal epithelium. The epicuticle-free pits, which cover the bursal cuticle, are identified as the points of entry, and the epicuticular filaments as major pathways for transport of phosphorus and presumably soluble molecules. Lead phosphate deposits also occurred in the epithelium extracellularly between the apical microvilli, lateral membranes and basal folds, in calcium granules and in large compound structures which appear to be made up, at least in part, of calcium granules. The confinement of the phosphorus to extracellular compartments of the epithelium suggests that its function is to be found elsewhere.  相似文献

The hemispherical eggshell of Calpodes consists of a domed dorsal surface of thin inner endochorion and a thick, lamellate, outer exochorion, and a flat bottom of predominantly unlamellated endochorion. The endochorion is traversed by small pores and the exochorion by larger ones, which are formed by the withdrawal of processes from the follicular cells. The presence of a phenoloxidase in the ovariolar ducts, lateral and common oviducts and in ovulated eggs, and the stability of ovulated eggs suggest that stabilization of the eggshell is accomplished through quinone tanning. However, the endochorion, which is soluble in sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), is more likely cross-linked by di- and tri-tyrosyls through the action of a peroxidase, present in the cells of the ovariolar duct and in the endochorion.  相似文献

The first corpus luteum of each ovariole is formed initially from the epithelial plug of cells which underly the first leading oocyte through autolysis, characterized by increased acid phosphatase activity, autophagy and lipophilic material. Later autolysis spreads progressively to apposing follicular cells, degeneration moving upwards until the leading oocyte is in the ovariolar duct, resulting in ovulation. All subsequent corpora lutea are compound structures, comprising the degenerating follicle of the newly shed eggs as well as remnants of previous corpora lutea. The interfollicular bridge cells appear to envelope the mature follicle during corpus luteum formation, thereby giving some support to the ovariole as a follicle disintegrates und the egg is shed.  相似文献

The different parts of the bursa copulatrix of virgin females of Calpodes ethlius have fine structures consistent with their different functions. The thin pitted cuticle of the bursal sac and its underlying epithelium suggest an absorptive function, with their 'pores' and numerous mitochondria respectively. The highly folded junctional region with its robust muscle and epithelium anchored to the thick folded spinous cuticle by sockets and their tonofibrillae suggest a holding structure capable of great muscular activity. The bursal duct with its hardened cuticle might serve to hold the body of the elongated, cone-shaped sperm sac straight and in position so that its contents might be more easily squeezed out into the seminal duct, whose opening is adjacent to the open end of the sperm sac.  相似文献

The mechanics of the pleural space has long been controversial. We summarize recent research pertaining to pleural mechanics within the following conceptual framework, which is still not universally accepted. Pleural pressure, the force acting to inflate the lung within the thorax, is generated by the opposing elastic recoils of the lung and chest wall and the forces generated by respiratory muscles. The spatial variation of pleural pressure is a result of complex force interactions among the lung and other structures that make up the thorax. Gravity contributes one of the forces that act on these structures, and regional lung expansion and pleural pressure distribution change with changes in body orientation. Forces are transmitted directly between the chest wall and the lung through a very thin but continuous pleural liquid space. The pressure in pleural liquid equals the pressure acting to expand the lung. Pleural liquid is not in hydrostatic equilibrium, and viscous flow of pleural liquid is driven by the combined effect of the gravitational force acting on the liquid and the pressure distribution imposed by the surrounding structures. The dynamics of pleural liquid are considered an integral part of a continual microvascular filtration into the pleural space. Similar concepts apply to the pulmonary interstitium. Regional differences in lung volume expansion also result in regional differences in interstitial pressure within the lung parenchyma and thus affect regional lung fluid filtration.  相似文献

The hairpencils of the Mediterranean flour moth, Ephestia kuehniella Zeller, are tufts of modified scales between the seventh and eighth abdominal segments of the adult males. The fine structure and development of a hairpencil organule is described. A process of the trichogen cell secretes the modified scale and then withdraws, and the cell invaginates forming a microvillous lumen into which pheromone is probably secreted. This lumen communicates with the outside via rows of pores in the hollow scale. The opening of these pores when the moth emerges from the pupal cuticle may be a result of the drying out of the membrane that covered them. The socket of the hairpencil scale is secreted by a tormogen cell.
The hairpencils of male Lepidoptera differ in position from family to family, but the organules that compose them seem to share a common structure. Epidermal glands and organules are classified in a scheme that takes account of their mode of development.  相似文献
