1. | The excitatory and inhibitory influences on the gill ofAplysia Juliana, which are mediated by the branchial nerve, were studied by means of electrophysiological techniques. Excitatory and inhibitory pathways in the nerve were stimulated simultaneously or selectively. |

In this study, we first established several CTL clones of (BALB/c x C57BL/6)F1 origin that were specific for either syngeneic UV female 1 or UV male 1 fibrosarcoma cell lines. All the CTL clones had Thy-1+ Lyt-2+ L3T4- phenotypes and showed Kd restriction when lysing the corresponding target cells. Sera obtained from syngeneic animals immunized with three CTL clones, 10B-5 for UV female 1, and CTL9 and CTL10 for UV male 1, showed specific inhibition of target cell lysis with the corresponding CTL clones. The inhibitory activities were found in sera of the majority of immunized animals. Because the inhibitory activity resides in protein A-binding fraction, mAb were produced by hybridizing spleen cells of hyperimmune animals. N1-56 was thus obtained from a mouse immunized with 10B-5 CTL clone reactive with UV female 1. N1-56 was clonotype specific, reacting with 10B-5 but not with other CTL lines or leukemia cell lines. No N1-56+ cells were detectable in thymocytes, lymph node cells, or spleen cells of either naive or UV female 1-immune CB6F1 mice. Immunoprecipitation showed that N1-56 reacts with 90,000 Mr molecules on 10B-5 CTL clone under nonreducing conditions and 45,000 Mr molecules under reducing conditions, indicating its reactivities with idiotypic determinants of TCR on the CTL clone. N1-56 inhibited lytic activity of 10B-5, but neither N1-56 nor alpha-10B-5 hyperimmune serum inhibited that of alpha-UV female 1 mixed lymphocyte tumor cell culture cells. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity was measured in 10 patients with anorexia nervosa, 6 with hyperthyroid Graves' disease, and 7 with primary hypothyroidism. Patients with anorexia nervosa had a low serum ACE activity (9.8 +/- 2.2 IU/l), as compared to findings in normal subjects (13.4 +/- 3.5 IU/l) (P less than 0.05). Patients with hyperthyroid Graves' disease had high serum ACE activity (23.7 +/- 5.8 IU/l), as compared to levels in normal subjects (P less than 0.01), and patients with primary hypothyroidism tended to have low serum ACE activity (10.1 +/- 1.8 IU/l), compared to the normal subjects (P less than 0.1). Following weight gain (before; 71.3 +/- 10.2% of ideal body weight, after; 88.7 +/- 5.6% of ideal body weight), serum ACE activity in patients with anorexia nervosa reverted to within the normal range (13.8 +/- 3.5 IU/l), and serum T3 concentration was restored to the normal range (before; 0.7 +/- 0.2 ng/ml, after; 1.1 +/- 0.3 ng/ml). In these patients, ACE activity correlated with the per cent of ideal body weight (P less than 0.05). To examine the effects of chronic dehydration and starvation on plasma levels of human atrial natriuretic polypeptide (hANP) in human subjects, the basal level and saline-induced rise of plasma hANP in 7 patients with anorexia nervosa were compared with those in age-matched healthy subjects. The unstimulated level of plasma hANP was markedly high in the patients with anorexia nervosa (patients vs. control; 55.4 +/- 9.0 pg/ml vs. 11.4 +/- 6.1 pg/ml, P less than 0.01). However, no significant increase of plasma hANP in the anorectic patients was observed in response to saline-infusion, while a 3-fold increase over the basal level of plasma hANP was noted in the saline-infused normal young subjects. These results show that hANP may be secreted to an inadequate extent, hence the release would be resistant to volume-loading. The pathophysiological meaning of such a high plasma concentrations of hANP in anorexia nervosa is the subject of ongoing studies. 相似文献

Seasonal changes in the spermatogenic epithelium of adult Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata fuscata)

A histological study was undertaken to clarify seasonal changes in the spermatogenic epithelium of Japanese macaques. Testicular
tissue samples were excised by biopsies from five adult laboratory-maintained males in mating and non-mating seasons. The
samples were fixed with Bouin's solution, embedded in paraffin, and stained with PAS and hematoxylin. Microscopic observations
on cross-sections of seminiferous tubules revealed that the seminiferous epithelium in the mating season was thicker than
in the non-mating season. PAS-stained granules were found in some of the dark A-type spermatogonia, which significantly increased
in the non-mating season. Spermatids of the steps preceding the appearance of the acrosomic cap in stages I to III were observed
significantly more often than those in the step coinciding with the formation of the acrosomic cap in stage IV. In stage I,
the ratio of mature spermatids or spermatozoa to immature spermatids in the mating season was higher than that in the non-mating
season. These findings suggest that spermiogenesis, as well as spermatocytogenesis, is inhibited in the non-mating season. 相似文献

A sensitive and specific method for the determination of lofepramine and its metabolites, desipramine and 2-hydroxydesipramine, in human plasma and urine is described. Lofepramine, desipramine and 2-hydroxydesipramine were derivatized to ethyl p-chlorobenzoate, the bis(heptafluorobutyryl) derivative and the N,O-bis(trifluoroacetyl) derivative, respectively, and then analysed by gas chromatography—mass fragmentography. Corresponding deuterated compounds were used as internal standards. Determination was possible at levels as low as 2 ng/ml for lofepramine and desipramine and 20 ng/ml for 2-hydroxydesipramine. 相似文献
