Background
Event-related potentials (ERPs) may be used as a highly sensitive way of detecting subtle degrees of cognitive dysfunction. On the other hand, impairment of cognitive skills is increasingly recognised as a hallmark of patients suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS). We sought to determine the psychophysiological pattern of information processing among MS patients with the relapsing-remitting form of the disease and low physical disability considered as two subtypes: 'typical relapsing-remitting' (RRMS) and 'benign MS' (BMS). Furthermore, we subjected our data to a cluster analysis to determine whether MS patients and healthy controls could be differentiated in terms of their psychophysiological profile. 相似文献2.

It has been previously reported that a combination pair of anti-CD2 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) T11(2)+T11(3) induces a strong proliferation of T cells, which does not require the involvement of accessory cells and exogenous interleukin 2 (IL-2). More recently, we have shown that the requirement for optimal T cell proliferation depends on the combination pairs of anti-CD2 mAb used. Among them, anti-GT2+T11(1) mAb do not allow optimal proliferation of TA4 helper cloned T cells due, at least in part, to a low level of IL-2 production. This observation offered us the opportunity to study the effect of IL-2 on its own production. We show here that stimulation of cloned TA4 cells with anti-GT2+T11(1) mAb induces only a marginal level of IL-2 production. By contrast, significantly higher levels of IL-2 activity are detected in the culture supernatant of TA4 cells preincubated with recombinant IL-2 (rIL-2) before stimulation with anti-GT2+T11(1) mAb. This effect is dose-dependent over a wide range (5 to 50 IU/ml) of rIL-2 concentrations added during preincubation time. In addition, it is not due to carryover of rIL-2 bound during the preincubation time, or to lesser IL-2 consumption by these cells, or to increasing numbers of IL-2-producing cells induced by exogenous IL-2. Moreover, the observation was confirmed with IL-2 mRNA. Although neither rIL-2 nor anti-GT2+T11(1) mAb alone could induce a significant production of IL-2, rIL-2 appears to up-regulate its own production when the TA4 cells are activated by the anti-CD2 mAb-mediated second signal. 相似文献

A frameshift event is necessary for expression of the products of the pol gene in a number of retroviruses, including human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). The basic signals necessary for frameshifting consist of a shifty sequence in which the ribosome slips and a downstream stimulatory structure which can be either a stem-loop or a pseudoknot. In HIV-1, much attention has been paid to the frameshift site itself, and only recently has the role of the downstream structure been examined. Here we used a luciferase-based experimental system to analyze in vivo the cis and trans factors potentially involved in controlling frameshifting efficiency at the gag-pol junction of HIV-1. We demonstrated that high-level frameshifting is dependent on the presence of a palindromic region located downstream of the site where the frameshift event takes place. Frameshifting efficiencies were found to be identical in mouse fibroblasts and the natural host cells of the virus, i.e., CD4+ human lymphoid cells. Furthermore, no increase in frameshifting was observed upon virus infection. Previous observations have shown that viral infection leads to specific alteration of tRNAs involved in translation of shifty sites (D. Hatfield, Y.-X. Feng, B.J. Lee, A. Rein, J.G. Levin, and S. A series of new pyrido[1,2-a]- and pyridazino[1,6-a]benzimidazolium salts have been synthesized from readily available 1,3-disubstituted 2-alkylbenzimidazolium salts. Capsule Timing of breeding influenced wing-length at fledging, and egg size may be an indicator of fledging weight and the amount of food received by chicks. Aims To investigate chick growth, temporal patterns of chick food provisioning and the importance of indices of parental condition or quality, egg size and hatching date, to predict nestling body mass and wing-length at fledging, and compare breeding and chick feeding characteristics between colonies in the northeast Atlantic. Methods A survey of Cory's Shearwater nests was carried out at Vila islet. A sample of 52 chicks, ringed and weighed at hatching, was selected to study chick growth and food provisioning. Results Hatching success (51%) was much lower than fledging success (87%). Both hatching date and egg size contributed to explain wing-length at fledging, but hatching date, which was negatively correlated with wing-length at fledging, had the most important contribution (22%). There was some indication that egg size may explain variation in fledging weight and the amount of food received by chicks. Food delivery and feeding frequency of chicks varied throughout the chick development stage and three phases were distinguished: (1) 0–29 days, the highest feeding frequency values and a linear increase in food delivery; (2) 30–69 days, an oscillation in food delivery and medium feeding frequencies; (3) 70–90+ days, a sharp decrease in both food delivery and feeding frequency. Conclusion Variation in food availability did not seem sufficient to override the overall importance of indices of parental quality in determining reproductive measures and chick provisioning. Breeding and feeding characteristics were similar between colonies in the northeast Atlantic, with variability in chick provisioning higher further south. 相似文献

The objective was to investigate the effects of vitamin E on collagen deposition induced by Cyclosporin A (CsA) administration in rats with caerulein (Cr) pancreatitis. CsA transforms the fully regenerative, self-limited form of Cr pancreatitis into a chroniclike disease in conjunction with increased transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta and myofibroblast proliferation. Vitamin E inhibits TGF-beta release in mesangial cells and reduces CsA cytotoxicity. Wistar rats received CsA daily (20 mg/kg), and CR pancreatitis was induced on days 1 and 8 (Cr + CsA group). In a separate group, vitamin E (600 mg.kg(-1).day(-1)) was administered starting 4 days before CsA. Three other groups received either vehicle, CsA, or Cr alone. Thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance (TBARS), 8-isoprostanes, and hyaluronic acid were measured in plasma obtained on the day the animals were killed (day 15). Pancreases were weighed and processed for light microscopy to assess connective tissue and myofibroblast number. Pancreatic homogenates were also assayed for collagen (hydroxyproline) and TBARS content. TBARS, 8-isoprostane, and TGF-beta were elevated in CsA and Cr + CsA rats. Vitamin E treatment greatly decreased these parameters. Vitamin E also decreased the fall in pancreatic weight observed in Cr + CsA pancreas. Pancreatic hydroxyproline and plasma hyaluronic acid were increased in Cr + CsA rats but were effectively reduced by vitamin E. Morphology showed improvement in fibrosis score and a decreased number of myofibroblasts in vitamin E-treated rats. Vitamin E reduces oxidative stress and collagen deposition during the development of experimental chronic pancreatitis. Adjuvant antioxidants may be of value in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis. 相似文献
