DENS: data center energy-efficient network-aware scheduling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In modern data centers, energy consumption accounts for a considerably large slice of operational expenses. The existing work in data center energy optimization is focusing only on job distribution between computing servers based on workload or thermal profiles. This paper underlines the role of communication fabric in data center energy consumption and presents a scheduling approach that combines energy efficiency and network awareness, named DENS. The DENS methodology balances the energy consumption of a data center, individual job performance, and traffic demands. The proposed approach optimizes the tradeoff between job consolidation (to minimize the amount of computing servers) and distribution of traffic patterns (to avoid hotspots in the data center network).  相似文献

We report the use of polyamidoamine (PAMAM-NH2) dendrimers along with other non-viral vehicles for the in vitro transfection of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) and for engineering MSCs to secrete brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Different generations of cationic polyamidoamine dendrimers (generations 3–6) were tested on HEK 293T cells. hMSCs were then transfected with PAMAM-NH2 G4 dendrimers and Lipofectamine 2000, which elicited the expression of GFP reporter in around 6 and 20% of the cells, respectively. Both vehicles were then shown to elicit the expression of BDNF in MSCs from a bicistronic cassette. Non-virally induced neurotrophin expression may be a safe and easy method for adapting autologous stem cells for therapeutic treatment of diseases and neural system injuries.  相似文献

Three forms of cytochrome c oxidase, fully oxidized CcO (CcO-O), oxidized CcO complexed with cyanide (CcO.CN), and mixed valence CcO, in which both heme a(3) and Cu(B) are reduced and stabilized by carbon monoxide (MV.CO), were investigated by optical spectroscopy, MCD, and stopped-flow for the pH sensitivity of spectral features. In the pH range between pH 5.7 and 9.0, both heme a and heme a(3) in CcO-O interact with a single protolytic group. From the variation of the position of the Soret peak with changes in pH, a pK(a) of 6.6 +/- 0.2 was determined for this group. The pH sensitivity of heme a(3) is lost in the CcO.CN complex, and only heme a responds to pH changes. In MV.CO the spectra of both hemes are almost independent of pH between 5.7 and 11.0. The stoichiometry of proton uptake in the conversion of CcO-O both to MV.CO and to fully reduced CcO was determined between pH 5.8 and pH 8.2. Formation of MV.CO from CcO-O was accompanied by the uptake of approximately two protons, and this value was almost independent of pH. Full reduction of oxidized CcO was associated with the uptake of approximately 2 H(+) at basic pH, and this value increases with decreasing pH. On the basis of these proton uptake measurements, it is concluded that the pK(a) of the group is independent of the redox state of CcO. It is suggested that Glu60 of subunit II, located at the entrance of the proton conducting K-channel, is the protolytic residue that interacts with both hemes through a hydrogen-bonding network.  相似文献

The effects of 4th and 5th generation cationic, neutral and anionic polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers on bilirubin absorbance and fluorescence were studied. Cationic and neutral PAMAM dendrimers shifted the bilirubin absorption maximum from 435 to 442-455 nm, increased the peak absorbance 1.5-fold, shifted the bilirubin fluorescence excitation and emission maxima, increased the fluorescence emission several-fold and significantly protected bilirubin against photodestruction. Using double fluorescence titration technique allowed to receive such constant of binding and the number of binding centers at 20 degrees C: for PAMAM G4 dendrimer, (2.4+/-1.4) x 10(6) (mol/l)(-1) and 0.07+/-0.012; for PAMAM G4-OH dendrimer, (3.1+/-1.3) x 10(6) (mol/l)(-1) and 0.08+/-0.014; for PAMAM G5 dendrimer, (7.6+/-3.6) x 10(6) (mol/l)(-1) and 0.09+/-0.02; and for PAMAM G5-OH dendrimer, (8.5+/-3.2) x 10(6) (mol/l)(-1) and 0.09+/-0.02. These effects can be explained by the formation of bilirubin-PAMAM dendrimer complexes and the formation of bilirubin monomers from tetramers. The formation of complexes sharply increased bilirubin solubility. We conclude that cationic and neutral PAMAM dendrimers bind bilirubin effectively and suggest that such dendrimers may serve as detoxication agents for hydrophobic endogenous toxins.  相似文献

We have examined the impact on biological systems of some newly synthesised polyoxyethylene polymers using in vitro assays. Toxicity was tested by the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, haemolysis was assessed, and an ethidium bromide (EB) assay was used to study interactions between the polymers and DNA. All the assay data showed that the polymers are biocompatible. No differences were found between generations (i.e. macromolecule sizes). The results encourage continuing studies on the clinical use of these molecules as drug carriers.  相似文献

Determination of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in conscious mice is cumbersome for the experimenter and stressful for the animals. Here we report on a simple new technique allowing the transcutaneous measurement of GFR in conscious mice. This approach extends our previously developed technique for rats to mice. The technique relies on a miniaturized device equipped with an internal memory that permits the transcutaneous measurement of the elimination kinetics of the fluorescent renal marker FITC-sinistrin. This device is described and validated compared with FITC-sinistrin plasma clearance in healthy, unilaterally nephrectomized and pcy mice. In summary, we describe a technique allowing the measurement of renal function in freely moving mice independent of blood or urine sampling as well as of laboratory assays.  相似文献

Since the discovery of several inherited diseases linked to the nuclear envelope the number of functions ascribed to this subcellular organelle has skyrocketed. However the molecular pathways underlying these functions are not clear in most cases, perhaps because of missing components. Several recent proteomic analyses of the nuclear envelope and nuclear pore complex proteomes have yielded not only enough missing components to potentially elucidate these pathways, but suggest an exponentially greater number of functions at the nuclear periphery than ever imagined. Many of these functions appear to derive from recapitulation of pathways utilized at the plasma membrane and from other membrane systems. Additionally, many proteins identified in the comparative nuclear envelope studies have sequence characteristics suggesting that they might also contribute to nuclear pore complex functions. In particular, the striking enrichment for proteins in the nuclear envelope fractions that carry phenylalanine-glycine (FG) repeats may be significant for the mechanism of nuclear transport. In retrospect, these findings are only surprising in context of the notion held for many years that the nuclear envelope was only a barrier protecting the genome. In fact, it is arguably the most complex membrane organelle in the cell.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to develop an automatic clip localization procedure for breast cancer patient setup based on Digital Tomosynthesis (DTS) and to characterize its performance with respect to the overall registration accuracy and robustness. The study was performed under an IRB-approved protocol for 12 breast cancer patients with surgical clips implanted around the tumor cavity. The registration of DTS images to planning CTs was performed using an automatic algorithm developed to overcome specific challenges of localization and registration of clips in the breast setup images. The automatic method consisted of auto-segmentation (intensity-based thresholding with a priori knowledge about clip size and location to distinguish clips from bony features) and auto-registration of the segmented clip clusters. To determine the inherent accuracy and robustness of the registration algorithm, additional simulated DTS data was analyzed. The developed algorithm is efficient in removing false positives and negatives and provides an accuracy of better than 2.3 mm for 60° and 3.3 mm for 40° DTS. When incorporated in clinical software, this algorithm helps to facilitate fast and accurate setup evaluation with minimal dose delivered to patients.  相似文献

The detailed analysis of the interaction between PAMAM G4 dendrimer and serum albumins was performed using circular dichroism, isothermal titration calorimetry, capillary electrophoresis, zeta-potential and fluorescence polarization. It was shown that serum albumins and PAMAM G4 dendrimer form the complex with stoichiometry of 4-6:1 for G4:HSA and 4-5:1 for G4:BSA molar ratio. The possible sites of PAMAM G4 dendrimers binding to protein surface were discussed. Also, it has been proposed that dendrimer does not significantly affect the protein secondary structure studied by circular dichroism.  相似文献
