Interaction of trap colour attractiveness with morphological variability of the thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande 1895)

In the latitude of Kiev, 80% of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande 1895) population was caught on the colour traps from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in summer and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in winter. Meanwhile, 10% of the population did not react to the colour traps at all (“passive” individuals), whereas for 20% of the population it was impossible to determine the clear colour with attractive properties. The thrips attracted with blue and yellow color traps, had more massive and variable body parts to be connected with their flight. Their antennae and segment sizes were significantly smaller than compared to the control variant, which could be explained by eyesight domination over other organs of sensory orientation. The indices of heterogeneity of morphological features can be used as evaluation criteria for the adaptive variability and stability of the thrips population.     

The ring between ring fingers (RBR) protein family

Proteins of the ring between ring fingers (RBR)-domain family are characterized by three groups of specifically clustered (typically eight) cysteine and histidine residues. Whereas the amino-terminal ring domain (N-RING) binds two zinc ions and folds into a classical cross-brace ring finger, the carboxy-terminal ring domain (C-RING) involves only one zinc ion. The three-dimensional structure of the central ring domain, the IBR domain, is still unsolved. About 400 genes coding for RBR proteins have been identified in the genomes of uni- and multicellular eukaryotes and some of their viruses, but the family has not been found in archaea or bacteria. The RBR proteins are classified into 15 major subfamilies (besides some orphan cases) by the phylogenetic relationships of the RBR segments and the conservation of their sequence architecture. The RBR domain mediates protein-protein interactions and a subset of RBR proteins has been shown to function as E3 ubiquitin ligases. RBR proteins have attracted interest because of their involvement in diseases such as parkinsonism, dementia with Lewy bodies, and Alzheimer's disease, and in susceptibility to some intracellular bacterial pathogens. Here, we present an overview of the RBR-domain containing proteins and their subcellular localization, additional domains, function, specificity, and regulation.     

The experience of FISH technique application for reconstruction of individual radiation doses in Chernobyl liquidators in the framework of Ukrainian-American project "Leukemia"

The results of proper investigations received under the cytogenetic examination of 225 persons (control groups, Chernobyl liquidators exposed to different radiation doses, oncogematology patients) had been summarized and analyzed. The conclusion concerning possibilities and limitations of FISH technique usage for retrospective biodosimetry of human radiation exposure has been presented.     

Activation of latent efferent sympathetic fibers in a viscero-visceral reflex circle under conditions of visceral pain in rats

Activation of “silent” efferent fibers due to stimulation of the mesenteric nerve within a definite frequency range is described; the effect is supposed to result from sensitization in reflex circles related to visceral pain.
