Accelerated tissue expansion with the "overfilling" technique   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Temporary overexpansion of the tissues at each filling session increased the actual inflation volume by about 59 percent. This shortened the process of tissue expansion considerably. "Overexpansion" means that the pressure in the expander is increased to a point where the dermal capillary flow is zero or the patient experiences so much discomfort that inflation cannot be carried out any further. The pressure in the expander is thereafter gradually decreased by taking out saline until both the capillary refill and all other clinical criteria are sufficient for safe dermal circulation. Comparison of the expander volume at the final pressure to the initial filling volume at the same pressure before the "overfilling" confirmed an average gain of about 59 percent in 14 patients.  相似文献

Linkage analysis was performed in a family with nonspecific X-linked mental retardation (MRX). Affected individuals had no clinical characteristics other than mental retardation. Linkage was detected to the marker loci DXS477, DXS465, DXS52, DXS15 and F8C with maximum lod scores of 1.70, 1.32, 2.52, 1.70, and 1.09, respectively ( = 0.0). The results strongly indicate that the gene for mental retardation in the family studied maps close to DXS52.  相似文献

Human FACS-sorted B lymphocyte subpopulations were investigated for their susceptibility to immortalization by Epstein Barr virus (EBV). Only B cells reacting with the monoclonal antibody B2 were immortalized, whereas cells reacting with anti-human IgG or the monoclonal antibody BB2 were not responding. Cells positive or negative for IgM, IgD, Burkitt's lymphoma antigen (BLA), BB1, and HB2 were all transformed by EBV.  相似文献

Reduction of postischemic edema with hyperbaric oxygen   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In recent years, reports have shown positive effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment in posttraumatic circulatory insufficiency of the extremities. A tourniquet model for temporary ischemia was used to examine such treatment in rats. The circulation of the rat hindlimb was interrupted for 3 hours, while the contralateral uninjured leg served as control. There was a significant (p less than 0.001) postischemic edema in the tourniquet leg up to 48 hours after restoration of circulation. One group of animals received treatment with hyperbaric oxygen at 2.5 atmospheres absolute (ATA) for 45 minutes after release of the tourniquet. This significantly reduced (p less than 0.001) the postischemic edema, and the reduction persisted for 40 hours after the last treatment. It is concluded that hyperbaric oxygen reduces postischemic edema. Hyperbaric oxygen may therefore be useful as an adjuvant in the treatment of acute ischemic conditions when surgical repair alone fails or is not sufficient to reverse the ischemic process.  相似文献

The copy numbers of the FII plasmids R1 and R100 were determined in four different ways and found to be identical. Deletion of one of the copy number control genes, copB, together with its promoter gives rise to plasmid copy mutants with an increased copy number. The increase was found to be 8- and 3.5-fold for plasmids R1 and R100, respectively. These deletion derivatives were found to be extremely sensitive to the presence of CopB activity from their own parent plasmid but not to that of the other plasmid. Hence, the CopB protein and its target are plasmid-specific and not FII-group-specific. These results are consistent with the high degree of nonhomology between plasmids R1 and R100 in a 250-bp region covering the distal part of the copB gene and the repA promoter region, which contains the target for the CopB protein.  相似文献

 A group of 96 patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma were treated with the mouse (m) or chimeric (c) (mouse variable regions × human IgG1 constant regions) monoclonal antibody (mAb) 17-1A recognizing the tumour-associated antigen GA733-2. Eighty-two of the 83 patients treated with mmAb17-1A and 69% of the patients given cmAb17-1A (n = 13) developed anti-idiotypic antibodies (ab2). Auto-antibodies binding to tumour cells expressing GA733-2 were found in 7% of the patients. In a further 38 patients (40%) antitumour-cell antibodies, i.e. anti-anti-idiotypic antibodies (ab3), were induced by the mAb17-1A therapy. Patients with detectable ab3 after treatment had significantly higher ab2 levels than those not developing ab3. Addition of granulocyte/macrophage-colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) to mmAb17-1A significantly enhanced the induction of ab2 as well as induction of anti-anti-idiotypic antibodies (ab3), compared to mmAb17-1A alone. Patients with a high increase in antitumour-cell antibodies (ab3) induced by the therapy lived significantly longer than patients with no or a low level of induction of ab3 (P = 0.016). OBJECTIVE--To determine the risk of subsequent cancer in patients with deep venous thrombosis confirmed by venography. DESIGN--Follow up of all patients who had venography for suspected deep venous thrombosis during 1984-88. Patients were traced through a cancer registry up to 1 January 1991. SUBJECTS--4399 patients who had phlebography in one hospital. SETTING--General hospital in Malmö, Sweden, serving a population of 230,000. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE--Number of cancers recorded. RESULTS--4399 patients had venography for suspected deep venous thrombosis; 604 were known to have a malignancy at the time of venography and were excluded from further analysis. 1383 had deep venous thrombosis, 150 of whom subsequently developed cancer. 182 of the 2412 patients without thrombosis developed cancer. During the first six months after venography 66 patients with thrombosis developed malignancy compared with 37 patients without thrombosis (P < 0.0001). 38 of the cancers in the deep venous thrombosis group were detected by history, physical examination, and laboratory tests. Three patients had postoperative or post-traumatic deep venous thromboses. Only two of the remaining patients would have benefited from early detection by extensive screening. After six months the incidence of cancer was identical in patients with and without thrombosis. CONCLUSION--Deep venous thrombosis is associated with a significantly higher frequency of malignancy during the first six months after diagnosis. Malignancies can be found with simple clinical and diagnostic methods and extensive screening is not required.  相似文献

Cuttings of pea (Pisum sativum L. cv Marma) were treated with 1-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid (ACC). This treatment caused increased ethylene production and reduction of root formation. The effect of 0.1 mM ACC on the level of endogenous indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in the rooting zone and in the shoot apex was analyzed by gas chromatography-single ion monitoring mass spectrometry or by high pressure liquid chromatography with fluorimetric detection (HPLC). Concentrations of indole-3-acetylaspartic acid (IAAsp) in the stem bases were also determined using HPLC. The ACC treatment had little effect on the IAA level in the base measured after 24 h, but caused a considerable decrease during the 3 following days. IAAsp increased in the base on days 1, 2 and 3 and then declined. The build up of IAAsp in the base was not affected by ACC during the first two days of the treatment, but later this conjugate decreased more rapidly than in controls. No effect of the ACC treatment was found on the level of IAA in the apex. IAA (1 µM) applied to the cuttings during 24 h reduced the number of roots formed. The possibility that IAA-induced ethylene is involved in this response was investigated.Our results support earlier evidence that the inhibitory effect of ethylene on rooting in pea cuttings is due to decreased IAA levels in the rooting zone. The inhibitory effect of applied IAA is obtained if the internal IAA level is maintained high during the first 24 h, whereas stimulation of rooting occurs if the internal IAA level remains high during an extended period of time. Our results do not support the suggestion that ethylene mediates the inhibitory effect of applied IAA.  相似文献
