For the first time ever, the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List Index for habitat types was calculated for an entire country, Finland. The RLIs were based on species threat assessments from 2000 and 2010 and included habitat definitions for all 10,131 species of 12 organism groups. The RLIs were bootstrapped to track statistically significant changes. The RLI changes of species grouped by habitats were negative for all habitat types except for forests and rural biotopes which showed a stable trend. Trends of beetles and true bugs were positive in rural and forest habitats. Other 16 observed trends of species group and habitat combinations were negative. Several trends observed were in accordance with studies focusing on particular taxa and habitats, and drivers for their change. This study demonstrates the usefulness of the RLI as a tool for observing habitat change based on species threat assessment data.  相似文献

The effects of a filtering device and an air-line apparatus on breathing pattern were studied in healthy men with different physical characteristics and work capacity. The subjects comprised nine construction workers aged 35-44, and nine firemen aged 21-35. The construction workers' mean maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) was 34.5 ml min-1 kg-1, the firemen's 66.9 ml min-1 kg-1. Breathing pattern was analyzed for its components, inspiratory time, expiratory time, breathing frequency, tidal volume, and pulmonary ventilation at rest, during two submaximal treadmill walks when the subjects' absolute work load was equal, and during recovery. Neither the filtering device nor the air-line apparatus had a significant effect on breathing pattern when compared with the control values measured twice with a low-resistance breathing valve. A significantly longer expiratory time, lower breathing frequency, and smaller pulmonary ventilation were found for the firemen with the breathing valve and the industrial respirators. The breathing pattern of the construction workers and the firemen differed, but the alterations were not induced by the use of the filtering device or the air-line apparatus when studied at aerobic work levels up to 60% VO2max.  相似文献

Summary The effect of interferon (IFN) on the immunogenicity and immunosensitivity of mouse cell lines transformed by bovine papillomavirus type 1 (BPV1) DNA was examined in a syngeneic mouse model. The overnight incubation of BPV1-transformed cell lines with 100 IU/ml IFN did not affect their ability to induce the generation of cytotoxic effector cells but it clearly increased their sensitivity to lysis by interleukin-2-induced lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells and by nonspecific LAK-type effector cells induced by BPV-1-transformed cell lines. The treatment of two allogeneic lymphoid tumour cell lines, P815X2 and YAC-1, with IFN either decreased or had no effect on their sensitivity to LAK-cell-mediated lysis.  相似文献

An enzyme electrode was constructed for amperometric determination of xylose and glucose. The electrode is based on the PQQ-dependent membrane-bound aldose dehydrogenase (ALDH) from Gluconobacter oxydans. ALDH was covalently immobilized on a graphite electrode. Immobilized dimethylferrocene, soluble ferrocene carboxylic acid and phenazine methosulphate were used as electron transfer mediators. When xylose was measured electrochemically using an electrode modified with ALDH and dimethylferrocene, the linear measurement range extended to 100 mM. For glucose measurement the linear measurement range was about one-tenth of that for xylose. The electrode showed fairly good stability; 50% of the original electrode response was still obtained after 5 days of intermittent use. The effect of possible leakage of adsorbed mediator was determined by measuring the response of an electrode with soluble mediator as a function of time. The reproducibility of the electrode was good, the standard deviation of the electrode response in ten measurements with the same electrode being only 2.7%.  相似文献

The diel vertical distribution patterns of a migratory alga Cryptomonas marssonii in a small, steeply stratified humic lake were investigated during a summer season (10 diurnal experiments between May and September) using a close-interval Blakar-type sampler. The results indicate that the cells were phototactic; they were typically concentrated at the surface or subsurface during daylight, while in darkness the highest densities were recorded in deeper water, usually near the upper limit of anoxia. During a dense blue-green bloom in August the cells of C. marssonii were also concentrated by day into the same water layer, where oxygen was depleted. However, the cells seemed to avoid totally anoxic water. Because the vertical distribution pattern of C. marssonii had special diurnal and seasonal characteristics, care is needed when designing a sampling programme for a phytoplankton population dominated by this species.  相似文献

A K/Rb isotope dilution method was used to determine the uptake of K from undisturbed subsoils. Rb was applied to the topsoil (0–30 cm) to trace the K taken up from the topsoil by crops. The K/Rb ratio in the crops increases when roots contact the Rb-free subsoil. This change in the K/Rb ratio enables the calculation of the uptake of K from the subsoil. Results of 34 field experiments on loess-parabrown soils in N. Germany showed that the subsoil (>30 cm) supplied, on average, 34% of the total K uptake by spring wheat (range 9–70%). The range between the experimental sites is considered in relation to the contents of K in the top and subsoils (as extracted by 0.025 N CaCl2 solution), the proportion of the total root length in the subsoils, and competition for K between roots in the top and subsoil. In subsoils with similar K contents, uptake from the subsoil decreased significantly from 65 to 21% of total K uptake, as K contents in the topsoils increased from 4 to 8 mg K/100 g. On sites with the same K contents in topsoils (9 mg K/100 g), the subsoil supplied 12 to 61% of total K uptake as the K contents of the subsoil increased from 2 to 27 mg K/100 g. The contribution of uptake of K from the subsoil increased with the development of the crop, from 8% at first node stage to 35% at ear emergence, as the proportion of total root length in the subsoil increased. High root length densities in the topsoil (9 cm/cm3) resulted in competition for K between roots and increased uptake of K from the subsoil.  相似文献

The major source of substrates for microbial activity in the ectorhizosphere and on the rhizoplane are rhizodeposition products. They are composed of exudates, lysates, mucilage, secretions and dead cell material, as well as gases including respiratory CO2. Depending on plant species, age and environmental conditions, these can account for up to 40% (or more) of the dry matter produced by plants. The microbial populations colonizing the endorhizosphere, including mycorrhizae, pathogens and symbiotic N2-fixers have greater access to the total pool of carbon including that recently derived from photosynthesis. Utilization of rhizodeposition products induces at least a transient increase in soil biomass but a sustained increase depends on the state of the native soil biomass, the flow of other metabolites from the soil to the rhizosphere and the water relations of the soil. In addition, the phenomena of oligotrophy, cryptic growth, plasmolysis, dormancy and arrested metabolism can all influence the longevity of rhizosphere organisms. With this background, microbial growth in the rhizosphere will be discussed.  相似文献

Eight subjects, who were indoor workers and not habitually exposed to cold, spent 53 days in Antarctica. They did mainly geological field work often requiring the use of bare hands. The effects of the expedition on responses to a whole body cold exposure test, a finger blood flow test and a cold pressor test were studied. After the expedition, during whole-body cooling the time for the onset of shivering was delayed by 36 min (P<0.001) and forearm and thigh temperatures were 1.5°C higher (P<0.05) at the end of exposure. During local cooling of the finger with 10°C perfusion, finger vascular resistance was 14.9 (SEM 6.6) mmHg · ml–1 · min · 100 ml (P<0.05) lower and finger temperature 3.9 (SEM 0.8) °C higher (P< 0.01). However, the decrease in rectal temperature during wholebody cooling was unaltered and the response to a cold pressor test was unchanged. The data would indicate that partial acclimatization to cold had been developed. Changes in forearm temperature were correlated with the duration of cold exposure of the hands (P < 0.05) and finger vascular resistance and finger temperature were correlated with responses to cooling before the expedition (P<0.001 and P<0.01, respectively). Because the ambient temperature was not clearly lower in Antarctica in comparison to Finland, the reason for the changes developed seems to be the increased exposure to the outdoor climate in Antarctica.  相似文献

The ability of Streptomyces griseoviridis to colonize roots was studied on turnip rape (Brassica rapa ssp. oleifera) and carrot (Daucus carota) using the sand-tube method. The biofungicide Mycostop or a spore suspension of S. griseoviridis was mixed in sterile and in non-sterile sand. Population densities of the antagonist in the rhizosphere were significantly higher than in non-rhizosphere and in root-free sand. There was no significant difference between the plant species and root depths on distrubution of the antagonist. Higher rates of detection were achieved when root segments were placed on petri plates of agar than when homogenized and subsequently dilution plated. Homogenization of sand samples increased the detected population densities of S. griseoviridis. Muramic acid assay with HPLC indicated higher densities in the rhizosphere compared with non-rhizosphere and rootfree sand. Distribution of S. griseoviridis in the rhizosphere was observed using scanning electron microscopy. The antagonist produced high spore densities in the root-hair zone of turnip rape. S. griseoviridis mixed in sterile and non-sterile sand survives in the rhizosphere, non-rhizosphere and root-free sand where it probably exists both as spores and mycelia.  相似文献

Hyphomorpha, a genus of theStigonematales, is confirmed to be a phycobiont in twoSpilonema species (Coccocarpiaceae). The morphology of the symbiotic algae inSpilonema dendroides andS. schmidtii is described. The phycobiont inS. dendroides is possiblyHyphomorpha antillarum, the alga inS. schmidtii might be a species related toH. perrieri. New localities for the rare lichens are reported: Alaska forS. dendroides and Ceylon forS. schmidtii.
