The dominant bacteriaPseudomonas sp. andArthrobacter sp. were isolated from the standing water of carbofuran-retreatedAzolla plot.Arthrobacter sp. hydrolysed carbofuran added to the mineral salts medium as a sole source of carbon and nitrogen while no degradation occurred withPseudomonas sp. Interestingly, when the medium containing carbofuran was inoculated with bothArthrobacter sp. andPseudomonas sp., a synergistic increase in its hydrolysis and subsequent release of CO2 from the side chain was noticed. This synergistic interaction was better expressed at 25° C than at 35° C. Likewise, related carbamates, carbaryl, bendiocarb and carbosulfan were more rapidly degraded in the combined presence of both bacterial isolates.  相似文献

In five consecutive years lettuce, spinach, spring wheat, endive and maize were grown in pots and the effects of native and soil-applied Zn and Cd on plant Zn and Cd concentrations were studied. The normal interactive pattern was antagonistic, Zn reducing plant Cd uptake, and conversely, but less so. Only in loam soil Zn and Cd were synergistic to some extent, plant Zn uptake increasing with applied Cd.When relating total soil Cd/Zn to plant Cd/Zn separate sets of data could be distinguished for loam and sandy soil, each fitting a straight line. The use of 0.1 M CaCl2 instead of total extractable soil Cd/Zn makes the two sets of data to coalesce around a single straight line. All crops were found to show a positive linear relationship between 0.1 M CaCl2-extractable soil Cd/Zn and plant Cd/Zn.  相似文献

Abstract  SV1 was observed to have obvious synergism and could delay housefly ( Musca domestica vicina ) resistance development to Dipterex. The penetration rates of Dipterex through housefly cuticle were determined in a susceptible and two resistant strains. The results indicated that the penetration in the resistant housefly strains was obviously slower than in the susceptible one. The penetrating rate of SV1+ Dipterex (in mixture) was higher than that of Dipterex. The penetration reduction in resistant houseflies may be an important factor in bringing forth resistance. The increase of the penetrating rate of Dipterex and the decrease of its metabolic rate are regarded as the important mechanisms of SV1 synergism to Dipterex.  相似文献

The use of rosemary essential oil (RO) and its combination with nisin (RO+N) in preventing the multiplication of Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris in orange juice was evaluated. The minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations (MIC and MBC) for RO were both 125 μg ml−1 while RO+N displayed a synergistic effect. The use of RO and RO+N at concentrations of 1, 4 and 8× MIC in orange juice for 96 h was evaluated in terms of their sporicidal effectiveness. With regard to the action against A. acidoterrestris spores, RO at 8× MIC was sporostatic, whereas RO+N at 1× MIC was sporicidal. Morphological changes in the structure of the micro-organism after treatment were also observed by microscopy. Furthermore, flow cytometric analysis showed that most cells were damaged or killed after treatment. In general, the antioxidant activity after addition of RO+N decreased with time. The results demonstrate that using the combination of RO and nisin can prevent the A. acidoterrestris growth in orange juice.  相似文献

The effects of TPA and/or DDT and oleic acid and/or DDT on gap junction-mediated intercellular communication (i.e. metabolic cooperation) between Chinese hamster V79 cells was examined. Addition of TPA, DDT or oleic acid alone to cocultures of 6t-hioguanine-resistant (6-TG R ) and 6-thioguanine-sensitive (6-TG S ) V79 cells significantly increased the recovery of 6-TG R cells indicating inhibition of metabolic cooperation. In the presence of TPA and DDT or oleic acid and DDT the observed recovery of 6-TG R cells was significantly greater than the expected (calculated) additive 6-TG R cell recovery. No synergistic increases in 6-TG R cell recovery were observed when co-cultures of V79 cells were exposed to dieldrin and DDT. These results indicate that TPA and DDT or oleic acid and DDT can act synergistically to inhibit metabolic cooperation. Concentrations of soluble aluminum (Al) and manganese (Mn) frequently reach phytotoxic levels in acid soils. While dose response relationships for these metals are well documented, the effects of combined exposure have received less attention. We have examined the effect of combinations of Al and Mn on growth and metal accumulation in Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. grown in solution culture under conditions of low ionic strength (conductivities typically < 100 µS cm−1). The nature of interaction between these metals varied with the specific physiological response, the part of the plant investigated, and the relative amount of stress imposed. Analysis of growth data provided evidence for amelioration of metal toxicity (antagonistic effects), although this effect was dose dependent. Analysis of metal content data provided evidence for antagonistic and synergistic (exacerbation of toxicity) effects, again depending on dose. Analysis of foliar symptoms also provided evidence for antagonisms and synergisms, with the nature of the response dependent on the specific physiological response and specific plant part investigated. In contrast with previous reports, evidence for antagonistic, synergistic, and multiplicative effects on growth, metal uptake, and expression of foliar symptoms have been obtained under physiologically and environmentally relevant conditions. These results suggest a more detailed analysis of the potential for interactions between metals in the environment is required.  相似文献

Summary We have examined the effect of alteration in cell shape on promoting differentiated morphology and physiology in cultured nonpigmented epithelial cells from the ciliary body. We have grown pure populations of nonpigmented cells on collagen gels released from the culture dish to create collagen rafts. Shortly after the gels were detached, the cells shrank in diameter and increased in height while they contracted the gel. Concurrently, the actin cytoskeleton reorganized to the cell cortex as found in vivo. After this differentiated morphology developed, large changes in intracellular Ca2+ could be elicited by simultaneous activation of acetylcholine and epinephrine or acetylcholine and somatostatin receptors as seen in intact tissue. Explant cultures of isolated nonpigmented cell layers maintained their actin distribution and also showed synergistic Ca2+ increases. Spread cells, grown on rigid substrates, had a disorganized cytoskeleton and rarely showed synergism. These data suggest that the mechanism underlying synergistic Ca2+ responses in the ciliary body is functional in nonpigmented cells grown on collagen rafts. In addition, this pathway appears to be sensitive to the disposition of the cell’s cytoarchitecture.  相似文献

Abstract

Growth inhibition of E. coli cell culture has been determined for a series of 4-substituted-N'-phenylsulfonamides tested in the presence and absence of synergistic concentrations of trimethoprim. Quantitative structure-activity relationships, established by regression analysis, exhibit an identical dependence of bacterial growth inhibition on sulfonamide pKa irrespective of the presence or absence of trimethoprim. Examination of a small series of benzylpyrimidines in the presence or absence of 4-dimethylamino-N1-phenylsulfanilamide gave similar results. Since the presence of a synergistic agent affords no change in structure-activity relationships, it is concluded that no direct interaction between sulfonamides and benzylpyrimidines occurs and that the synergism observed is solely the result of the kinetic consequences of sequential blockade of the folate biosynthetic pathway.  相似文献
