Vascular support structures are important devices for treating valve stenosis. A large population of patients is treated for valvular disease and the preferred mode of treatment is percutaneous valve replacement. Stent devices are proving to be an improved technology in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. This new technology provides highly effective results at minimal cost and with a short duration of hospitalisation. Stents as a supporting structure for tissue valves have evolved over the years into remarkably useful and effective devices. During this process, a number of specific designs have come and gone, and a few have remained. Many design changes were successful, and many were not. This article describes the merits and demerits of various stent designs and details the specific reasons why a particular novel design is expected to be the most suitable implant during and after percutaneous aortic valve replacement. 相似文献
Product takeback calls for sound strategies of product recovery management One such strategy-is the reuse of the components of a product. There are consumer products such as power tools whose most expensive component, the electric motor; offers potential for reuse. Empirical evidence reveals that the lifetime of a motor often exceeds the life-time of the product using it. This article focuses on the reuse of electric motors. For this purpose, a novel circuit was developed that measures, computes, and records parameters strongly correlated with the degradation of a motor during the use stage of the product. This circuit, called electronic data log (EDL), provides valuable insights into the usage patterns of products. The data recorded during the use stage are retrieved after product takeback as a basis for reuse decisions. In this article, the trade-off between higher initial manufacturing cost caused by the EDL and cost savings from the reuse of used motors is analyzed. The problem of misclassifications of used motors is also addressed. It is shown that the return rate of used products is the critical parameter determining the economic efficiency of a motorreuse strategy based on EDLs. With the increasing emergence of substandard ships sailing under the flag state's ineffective control and the growing number of accidents that negatively affect the marine environment and the maritime order, port states, coastal states, and international organizations have begun to develop new regimes to increase their control over ships. As a result, the authority of flag states is increasingly being challenged, seemingly calling into question the primary jurisdiction and control of flag states over their ships. Organotin compounds (OTC) are toxic towards all living organisms. The application of organitin-based antifouling systems is becoming the main source of OTC in the ocean. Harbor sediments and water contain large deposits of organotin compounds due to application of antifouling systems in the shipping industry. OTC contamination presents a potential risk to the marine environment.
Sediment and water samples were collected in 2009 from Gdynia Harbor. For all the analyzed organotin compounds, the mean concentration values were determined: water samples monobutyltin (MBT): 13.2, dibutyltin (DBT): 16.7, tributyltin (TBT): 60.7 (ng cation dm?3), and sediment samples MBT: 261.4, DBT: 751.9, TBT: 2148.2 (ng cation g?1 d.w.). The estimated content of monophenyltin (MPhT), diphenyltin (DPhT), triphenyltin (TPhT), monooctyltin (MOT), dioctyltin (DOT), and tricyclohexyltin (TCHT) were below the detection limit of the applied method. It was found that the content of organic matter, the amount of fine fraction, and the pH all play a significant role in the distribution and sorption process of OTC between the water and the sediment on the bottom. Compared to an earlier study, the concentrations of all OTC are much lower, confirming that the applied legislation has had a positive impact. 相似文献
