Background
This study aims to examine age-related and obstacle height-related differences in movements while stepping over obstacles.Methods
The participants included 16 elderly and nine young women. Obstacles that were either 5 or 20 cm high were positioned at the center of a 4-m walking path. The participants were instructed to walk along the path as quickly as possible. The participants’ movements were analyzed using a three-dimensional motion analysis system that recorded their movements as they walked and stepped over the obstacles.Results and conclusions
Seven joint angles and the distances between the ground and six markers were examined in the initial contact and swing instants of the leading and trailing limbs. In the initial contact instant, the elderly women prepared for stepping with a lower toe height than the young women when stepping over the 20-cm obstacle. Trunk rotation was greater in the young women than in the elderly women. In the swing instant, the elderly women showed greater ankle dorsiflexion and hip adduction angles for the leading limb when stepping over the 20-cm obstacle. They moved the trailing limb with increased ankle dorsiflexion, knee flexion, hip flexion, and foot inversion to ensure that they did not touch the obstacle as they stepped over it. Currently, in addition to the electroactive non‐noble metal water‐splitting electrocatalysts, a scalable synthetic route and simple activity enhancement strategy is also urgently needed. In particular, the well‐controlled synthesis of the well‐recognized metal–metal nanointer face in a single step remains a key challenge. Here, the synthesis of Cu‐supported Ni4Mo nanodots on MoOx nanosheets (Ni4Mo/MoOx) with controllable Ni4Mo particle size and d‐band structure is reported via a facile one‐step electrodeposition process. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the active open‐shell effect from Ni‐3d‐band optimizes the electronic configuration. The Cu‐substrate enables the surface Ni–Mo alloy dots to be more electron‐rich, forming a local connected electron‐rich network, which boosts the charge transfer for effective binding of O‐related species and proton–electron charge exchange in the hydrogen evolution reaction. The Cu‐supported Ni4Mo/MoOx shows an ultralow overpotential of 16 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm?2 in 1 m KOH, demonstrating the smallest overpotential, at loadings as low as 0.27 mg cm?2, among all non‐noble metal catalysts reported to date. Moreover, an overpotential of 105 mV allows it to achieve a current density of 250 mA cm?2 in 70 °C 30% KOH, a remarkable performance for alkaline hydrogen evolution with competitive potential for applications. 相似文献

Aquatic organisms such as cichlids, coelacanths, seals, and cetaceans are active in UV–blue color environments, but many of them mysteriously lost their abilities to detect these colors. The loss of these functions is a consequence of the pseudogenization of their short wavelength-sensitive (SWS1) opsin genes without gene duplication. We show that the SWS1 gene (BdenS1ψ) of the deep-sea fish, pearleye (Benthalbella dentata), became a pseudogene in a similar fashion about 130 million years ago (Mya) yet it is still transcribed. The rates of nucleotide substitution (~ 1.4 × 10− 9/site/year) of the pseudogenes of these aquatic species as well as some prosimian and bat species are much smaller than the previous estimates for the globin and immunoglobulin pseudogenes. 相似文献

The behavior of Pearson's X2 test, the likelihood ratio test Y2 and the two of its derivatives, G2 and Gk2, the Freeman-Tukey test (FT) and the Cressie and Read test Statistic I(2/3) are examined in this study. Estimated attained α levels based on 1000 simulated samples when the approximating distribution is χk-12, are computed for these tests for the various values of k, n and seven null hypotheses. Results from estimated power computations indicate that none of the test statistics has a clear advantage over any others, and that the choice of which test to use must therefore rest mainly on the performances with regards to the attained α levels when the χ2 approximation is invoked. Demosponges, the largest and most diverse class in the phylum Porifera, possess mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) markedly different from that in other animals. Although several studies investigated evolution of demosponge mtDNA among major lineages of the group, the changes within these groups remain largely unexplored. Recently we determined mitochondrial genomic sequence of the Lake Baikal sponge Lubomirskia baicalensis and described proliferation of small inverted repeats (hairpins) that occurred in it since the divergence between L. baicalensis and the most closely related cosmopolitan freshwater sponge Ephydatia muelleri. Here we report mitochondrial genomes of three additional species of Lake Baikal sponges: Swartschewskia papyracea, Rezinkovia echinata and Baikalospongia intermedia morpha profundalis (Demospongiae, Haplosclerida, Lubomirskiidae) and from a more distantly related freshwater sponge Corvomeyenia sp. (Demospongiae, Haplosclerida, Metaniidae). We use these additional sequences to explore mtDNA evolution in Baikalian sponges, paying particular attention to the variation in the rates of nucleotide substitutions and the distribution of hairpins, abundant in these genomes. We show that most of the changes in Lubomirskiidae mitochondrial genomes are due to insertion/deletion/duplication of these elements rather than single nucleotide substitutions. Thus inverted repeats can act as an important force in evolution of mitochondrial genome architecture and be a valuable marker for population- and species-level studies in this group. In addition, we infer (((Rezinkovia+Lubomirskia)+Swartschewskia)+Baikalospongia) phylogeny for the family Lubomirskiidae based on the analysis of mitochondrial coding sequences from freshwater sponges. 相似文献

During the last decade, increasing evidence suggested that bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs) have the potential to differentiate
into neural lineages. Many studies have reported that MSCs showed morphological changes and expressed a limited number of
neural proteins under experimental conditions. However, no proteomic studies on MSCs differentiated into Schwann cell-like
cells have been reported. In this study, we isolated MSCs from adult Sprague-Dawley rat femur and tibia bone marrows and induced
the cells in vitro under specific conditions. By using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE), we compared the protein profiles of MSCs
before and after induced differentiation. We obtained 792 protein spots in the protein profile by 2-DE, and found that 74
spots changed significantly before and after the differentiation using PDQuest software, with 43 up-regulated and 31 down-regulated.
We analyzed these 74 spots by a matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS)
and by database searching, and found that they could be grouped into various classes, including cytoskeleton and structure
proteins, growth factors, metabolic proteins, chaperone proteins, receptor proteins, cell cycle proteins, calcium binding
proteins, and other proteins. These proteins also include neural and glial proteins, such as BDNF, CNTF and GFAP. The results
may provide valuable proteomic information about the differentiation of MSCs into Schwann cell-like cells.
