Naphthaquinones in Lomatia species

Lomatiol, juglone, β-hydrojuglone and naphthazarin have been found distributed in various parts of six Lomatia spp. Three others contained no quinonoid pigments but the leaves of L. dentata yielded kaempferol-3-methyl ether and quercetin-3-methyl ether.     

Leaf flavonoids of Amborella trichopoda

The leaf flavonoids of Amborella trichopoda were examined and two kaempterol glycosides were detected. Procyanidin was also present. These results are similar to the flavonoid pattern in other families of the Laurales and it is suggested that simple flavonol glycosides are a primitive feature in the order.     

Effect of Vaccinium ashei reade Leaf Extracts on Lipid Metabolism in Obese OLETF Rats

The effects of a hot water extract and fractional extracts from rabbiteye blueberry (Vaccinium ashei reade) leaves (BBL) on lipid metabolism were studied in obese Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats. Feeding the hot water extract and fractional extracts from BBL alleviated hepatic triglyceride accumulation in the rats. Additionally, feeding with the flavonol glycoside (FG) and proanthocyanidin (PA) fractions lowered serum cholesterol levels in the obese rats. The results from measurements of the hepatic enzyme activity indicate that the hypolipidemic effects of the hot water extract and the PA fraction might be attributable to enhanced lipolysis in the liver. The reduced serum levels of C-reactive protein, an inflammatory cytokine, by the chlorogenic acid + rutin fraction and FG fraction might be associated with alleviating the metabolic abnormalities in obese rats. These results indicate that the BBL extracts, and especially FG and PA, exerted hypolipidemic effects on obese OLETF rats and suggest that an infusion of BBL can be useful as a dietary hypolipidemic component.     

Essai chimiosystématique sur la tribu des Lotées

A survey of the leaves and flowers of 62 representatives of the tribe Loteae (Leguminosae) showed the presence of several classes of flavonoids: flavonol 7-methyl ethers (rhamnocitrin, rhamnetin), 8-O-substituted flavonols (gossypetin, limocitrin, sexangularetin, corniculatusin), 3′,4′,5′-tri-O-substituted flavonols (myricetin, mearnsetin, syringetin, laricitrin), proanthocyanidins and flavone-C-glycosides. The trisubstitution of the B-ring and the 8-O-substitution of the A-ring allow the definition of a major group including the genera Dorycnium, Bonjeania, Lotus and Tetragonolobus. The presence of proanthocyanidins and 7-O-methylation determine a second group consisting of the genus Anthyllis. Finally, Securigera, on the basis of its flavonoid chemistry, appears to be rather remote from other members of the tribe.     

Acylated flavonol glycosides and δ-truxinate derivative from the aerial parts of Lysimachia clethroides

Phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts of Lysimachia clethroides led to the isolation of a new acylated flavonol glycoside (1) and a new δ-truxinate derivative (2), together with three known acylated flavonol glycosides. The structures of the new compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods and chemical evidence as quercetin-3-O-β-d-(6-O-Z-p-coumaroyl)glucopyranoside (1) and monomethyl 3,3′,4,4′-tetrahydroxy-δ-truxinate (2), respectively. All of the isolates were evaluated for their in vitro inhibitory activity against aldose reductase.     

Flavonol glycosides of Euphorbia retusa and E. sanctae-catharinae

The flavonoid glycosides of Euphorbia retusa and E. sanctae-catharinae are reported. Besides a number of common flavonol glycosides, kaempferol and quercetin 3-glucuronide-7-glucosides are reported for the first time.     

In vitro antifungal activity and mode of action of selected polyphenolic antioxidants on Botrytis cinerea

Six selected antioxidants (catechin, quercetin-3-galactoside, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, ellagic and gallic acids) were evaluated in vitro for their antifungal activities and mode of action on Botrytis cinerea Pers., one of the most important pathogens of strawberries. Inhibitory effects were found for all the tested antioxidants, but varied at different fungal developmental stages. Catechin and quercetin-3-galactoside showed linear inhibitory effects on germ tube elongation, with the highest suppression ratios of 54.8% and 58.8% respectively. No significant effect was found on spore germination between treatments and control. Gallic acid showed very strong and linear inhibition on spore germination (r = ?0.95), but the effect diminished after spore germination. Cyanidin-3-glucoside and pelargonidin-3-glucoside provided effective control on the fungi as concentrations increased. The arresting effect of ellagic acid on development of B. cinerea was quadratic. Ellagic acid inhibited germ tube elongation and mycelial growth at its highest and lowest concentrations, while no effects were observed at its medium concentration used in this study.     

Multiple Induction of Dye-Linked Aromatic Alcohol Dehydrogenases by n-Propanol and rc-Butanol in Rhodopseudomonas acidophila M402

We visualized flavonol distribution in the abaxial epidermis of onion scales without chemical processes via detection of blue-light-induced green autofluorescence. Our visualizing results indicated an unequal intercellular distribution of flavonols among epidermal cells causing a patch distribution in the epidermis, and indicated that flavonol accumulation in ultraviolet irradiated-onion scales was in uniformity with epidermal cells, probably to compensate for their stress-hypersensitiveness.     

活性炭柱层析纯化油茶皂苷的研究

本文通过选用特定的吸附柱层析活性炭纯化油茶皂苷。以总皂苷的得率及纯度为考察指标,确定活性炭吸附柱层析富集油茶总皂苷的性能、洗脱参数及再生使用情况。结果表明,水洗之后再以90％乙醇洗脱较好;香草醛．浓硫酸为检测方法检测下,总皂苷解吸得率为62．9％,总洗脱率为92．4％,纯度为50．1％以上;该类柱层析活性炭在分离纯化及脱色方面作用较显著,工艺简便、成本低,适合工业化生产。
