This paper introduces the vectorial Kappa (κv) that one can utilize to assess congruence between two vectorial mosaics. The vectorial Kappa extends for vectorial mosaics the approach of the so-called Cohen's Kappa index, commonly used to compare raster mosaics. By comparing both approaches, we aim to demonstrate how efficient and convenient a vector-based congruence may be when working on vectorial mosaics. 相似文献

Abstract The gene-protein database was used to obtain the two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel coordinates of proteins phosphorylated in extracts of Escherichia coli including those phosphorylated by eukaryotic-like kinase activities. These suggest that the phosphoproteins correspond to, or co-migrate with, the product of an open reading frame at 1.3 min (Orf80), Enzyme 1 of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system (Ptsl), the tRNA synthetase for histidine (HisS), and proteins involved in the response to carbon starvation and quinone treatment. 相似文献

The analysis of the membrane proteins and their antigenic properties in a group of 14 geographically diverse strains of Renibacterium salmoninarum revealed the existence of antigenic diversity within this species. Eleven isolates, including the type strain ATCC 33209, shared a similar protein profile with a major component of 57 kDa whereas three strains showed a common pattern with a major protein of 30 kDa. The quantitative agglutination tests and Western blotting assays seem to indicate the existence of serological heterogeneity, with two distinct groups being detected. 相似文献

From a literature review of five wildlife ecology journals since 1937, we document how using indices to monitor ungulate body
condition is common practice, with the kidney fat index (KFI = weight of fat around the kidneys/weight of kidneys without
fat × 100) as the favoured tool (82% of studies). In this context, we highlight the problems of using indices when underlying
statistical assumptions are not met (isometry, parallel slopes between treatments). We show, with real and simulated data
for two cervids with contrasting fat storage strategies, how results from analysis of variance of KFI values differ from analysis
of covariance (ANCOVA) of raw data. We conclude that the KFI is affected by the restrictions typically associated with derived
index values, and as a consequence, statistical analysis of the KFI could generate spurious results leading to erroneous interpretations
concerning variation in body condition of ungulate populations. Thus, we recommend analysing fat weight as an untransformed
variable in ANCOVA (kidney weight as covariate) to describe body condition variation in ungulates.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a major killer disease throughout the world. Dyslipidemia is a major contributor to the risk of CAD. Several dietary articles traditionally used in India and other South Asian countries reduced dyslipidemia. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the combined effect of Mung bean (Vigna radiata) and Elephant foot yam (Amorphophallus paeoniifolius) on serum lipids and atherogenic indices in albino rats and to compare it with a standard drug Cholestyramine. Thirty healthy albino rats of both sexes (150–200 g) were randomized to 5 groups of 6 animals each. The grouping were done based on the following criteria: Group I: Normal Control Group, Group II: (Standard Group): Cholestyramine resin 5 mg/kg bw, Group III: (Half Dose Group): Drug powder at 540 mg/kg bw, Group IV: (Effective Dose Group): Drug powder at 1080 mg/kg bw, and Group V: (Double Dose Group): Drug powder at 2160 mg/kg bw. Lipid profile was estimated at the beginning and after 30 days of treatment. The Effective and Double doses of the drug reduced Total cholesterol along with levels of Triglycerides, Low density lipoprotein and Very low density lipoprotein levels significantly (p < 0.01) along with a significant (p < 0.01) increase in high density lipoproteins (HDL) in rats. There was also significant (p < 0.01) improvement in atherogenic indices like Castelli Risk Index I, Non HDL C/HDL, Castelli risk Index II, TG/HDL, Atherogenic coefficient and Atherogenic Index of Plasma. Sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) is a type of cultivated sorghums and has been recognized widely as potential alternative source of bio-fuel because of
its high fermentable sugar content in the stalk. A substantial variation of sugar content and related traits is known to exist
in US sweet sorghum. The objectives of the study were to assess the genetic diversity and relationship among the US sweet
sorghum cultivars and lines using SSR markers and to examine the genetic variability within sweet sorghum accessions for sugar
content. Sixty-eight sweet sorghum and four grain sorghum cultivars and lines were genotyped with 41 SSR markers that generated
132 alleles with an average of 3.22 alleles per locus. Polymorphism information content (PIC) value, a measure of gene diversity,
was 0.40 with a range of 0.03–0.87. The genetic similarity co-efficient was estimated based on the segregation of the 132
SSR alleles. Clustering analysis based on the genetic similarity (GS) grouped the 72 sorghum accessions into 10 distinct clusters.
Grouping based on clustering analysis was in good agreement with available pedigree and genetic background information. The
study has revealed the genetic relationship of cultivars with unknown parentage to those with known parentage. A number of
diverse pairs of sweet sorghum accessions were identified which were polymorphic at many SSR loci and significantly different
for sugar content as well. Information generated from this study can be used to select parents for hybrid development to maximize
the sugar content and total biomass, and development of segregating populations to map genes controlling sugar content in

Antigenic diversity in pathogenic microbes can be a result of at least three different processes: diversifying selection by acquired immunity, host–pathogen coevolution and/or host specialization. Here, we investigate whether host specialization drives diversity at ospC (which encodes an immunodominant surface protein) in the tick‐transmitted bacterium Borrelia afzelii. We determined prevalence and infection intensity of ospC strains in naturally infected wild mammals (rodents and shrews) by 454 amplicon sequencing in combination with qPCR. Neither prevalence nor infection intensity of specific ospC strains varied in a species‐specific manner (i.e. there were no significant ospC × host species interactions). Rankings of ospC prevalences were strongly positively correlated across host species. Rankings of ospC infection intensities were correlated more weakly, but only in one case significantly < 1. ospC prevalences in the studied mammals were similar to those in ticks sampled at the study site, indicating that we did not miss any mammal species that are important hosts for specific ospC strains. Based on this, we conclude that there is at best limited host specialization in B. afzelii and that other processes are likely the main drivers of ospC diversity. 相似文献

1. Population differences in physiological responses are examined in Thorectes lusitanicus, an endemic Iberian dung beetle species, by submitting individuals of different populations to the same experimental and acclimation conditions. 2. An infrared thermography protocol was used, consisting of three assays: start of activity, cold response, and heat response. Individuals of 12 populations were studied and the comparative explanatory capacities of several environmental factors in relation to the observed inter‐population differences were examined. 3. The heating rate from chill coma to the beginning of activity was the variable with the highest discrimination power among the studied populations, accounting for 94% of the observed variance. Regarding the heat response, only six of the 16 thermal variables reached significance (inter‐population differences accounted for 52–74% in these six thermal parameters). 4. From the three considered environmental factors (Mediterranean climate, land cover, and trophic characteristics) only land cover characteristics remain statistically significant, affecting the cold response of individuals. 5. Thorectes lusitanicus is a species characterised by a high diversity of thermotolerance and recovery traits across populations with a low degree of association with broad environmental factors. Finally, it is suggested that the apterous character of this species could be a determinant factor explaining the high diversity of ecophysiological traits related to thermal stress tolerance and the recovery time. 相似文献
