Endemic species typically have a narrow niche breadth, and are likely more vulnerable to extinction than more widespread taxa. Squalidus multimaculatus is a small cyprinid endemic to the Korean Peninsula, and its reported geographical range was restricted to several small rivers located along the southeast coast. Several populations of S. multimaculatus have supposedly been subject to a variety of recent anthropogenic actions. Here, we analyzed the pattern of genetic diversity within and among populations of S. multimaculatus using nine microsatellite loci to quantify the relative contributions of human-mediated processes to the contemporary distribution and genetic structure. Overall, low levels of genetic diversity were exhibited in the populations of S. multimaculatus. Genetic differentiations among populations were not completely represented by their geographical proximity, likely resulting from the low intrapopulation genetic variability and anthropogenic transplants. The most conspicuous outcome of the anthropogenic activities was the introgression of alleles from a closely related species, S. gracilis majimae. Our study showed that anthropogenic transplanting, even with only a small number of individuals, can challenge our conservation goal to maintain the species integrity that has long been shaped in evolutionary processes.  相似文献

AIMS: Fungal infection is still a life-threatening risk for the immunocompromised population such as AIDS patients and those who receive treatments with immunosuppressors and/or frequent administrations of wide-spectrum antibiotics, which inevitably lead to the drug resistance and unbalanced microflora populations. The present work was accordingly performed to characterize more potent antifungal metabolites from various cultures of marine fungi residing in white croaker Argyrosomus argentatus. METHODS AND RESULTS: The three most common opportunistic human pathogens Candida albicans (CCCCM ID 00148), Aspergillus niger (CCCCM ACCC 30005) and Trichophyton rubrum (CCCCM ID 00001) were selected as test fungi. A total of 16 cultivable fungal strains were isolated from the variant tissues of Ar. argentatus collected from the Yellow Sea, followed by preliminary antifungal screenings of the EtOAc extracts of the corresponding cultures. As a result, the inhibition of the three target fungi, plus being allergic to isolators' skin, were discerned with the EtOAc extract of the fungus under the isolation number Z16 that was identified subsequently as Myrothecium sp. by a combination of morphological and 18S rDNA finger-typing characteristics. A follow-up bioassay fractionation of the EtOAc extract, in conjunction with spectral analyses [MS, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR, distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT), heteronuclear multiple quantum coherence (HMQC) and heteronuclear multiple bond resonance (HMBC)] wherever required, afforded eventually the characterization of a new acid (compound 1: 4,5-ditridecyl-octanedioic acid), three macrocyclic trichothecenes including roridin A (compound 2), verrucarin A (compound 3) and 8beta-acetoxy-roridin H (compound 4), (22E,24R)-cerevisterol (compound 5) and N-phenyl-beta-amino-naphthalene (compound 6). In vitro antifungal tests showed that the three trichothecenes were active against A. niger, T. rubrum and C. albicans with MICs of 31.25, 62.5 and 125 microg ml(-1) for compound 2, 250, 125 and 31.25 microg ml(-1) for compound 3 as well as 125, 62.5 and 125 microg ml(-1) for compound 4 respectively. The MICs of ketoconazole (co-assayed herewith as a positive reference) against A. niger, T. rubrum and C. albicans were 31.25, 250, 31.25 microg ml(-1) respectively. A preliminary structure-activity relationship of the antifungal trichothecenes was highlighted in brief. CONCLUSIONS: The present investigation demonstrated that marine fungus Myrothecium sp. Z16 associated with white croaker (Ar. argentatus), was an efficient producer of a new acid and antifungal trichothecenes, the latter presumably being also the allergic substances in the culture. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The title marine fungus was investigated to be a resource of new aliphatic acid, and trichothecenes with potent antifungal and dermal toxic actions.  相似文献

Abstract   The leafhoppers Orosius argentatus (Evans), Austroagallia torrida (Evans) and Batracomorphus angustatus (Osborn) were used in transmission tests to determine their vector status for the phytoplasma associated with Australian lucerne yellows (ALuY). Caged, seed-grown lucerne plants were monitored for foliar symptom expression after feeding by leafhoppers transferred from ALuY symptomatic lucerne plants. Twelve of 25 plants developed phytoplasma disease-like symptoms including stunting and yellowing. The most pronounced foliar symptoms were displayed by five plants that had been fed on by O. argentatus and four plants that had been fed on by A. torrida. One plant, fed on by O. argentatus , showed the distinctive root symptoms of ALuY . A phytoplasma was identified by electron microscopy in two plants fed on by O. argentatus and one by A. torrida. For each group of plants that had been fed on by a single leafhopper species, one plant was phytoplasma positive as determined by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using universal primers. The phytoplasma detected by PCR in the plant fed on by A. torrida was identified by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis as the tomato big bud (TBB) phytoplasma. The PCR product from two plants fed on by B. angustatus and O. argentatus were too faint for RFLP analysis. PCR assays were conducted on DNA extracted from the head and thorax of each leafhopper species from transmission tests and from field-collected insects, but no phytoplasma DNA was detected. These findings suggest O. argentatus is a vector of the ALuY pathogen and A. torrida is a vector of the TBB phytoplasma.  相似文献

Differences in the growth rate of male and female offspring can result in different parental rearing costs for sons and daughters. Such differences may also influence the survival chances of male and female offspring when conditions are unfavourable. In birds, hatching asynchrony leads to hierarchical competition for food between siblings. Therefore, the sex of the chick in the first hatched position in the brood may influence breeding success by affecting the extent to which the later hatched chicks can compete for resources. The interaction between brood sex composition and chick performance in the herring gull Larus argentatus was examined under different environmental conditions. When environmental conditions were relatively good, chick survival within broods was better when a female was first to hatch, an effect that was most obvious later in the season. When conditions were poorer however, sex of the first hatched chicks was not related to brood survival. In neither situation did the overall primary sex ratio differ from equality. However in the year of relatively good food availability, the first chick in the brood was more likely to be male early in the season, which was when the disadvantageous effects on brood survival of males being in this position are weakest.  相似文献

Yellow-legged gulls Larus michahellis from the Atlantic Iberian coast exhibit some phenotypic similarities with the herring gull L. argentatus from Western Europe. To assess this phenomenon and its possible origin, we compared Mediterranean yellow-legged gulls, Atlantic Iberian yellow-legged gulls and herring gulls for several phenotypic traits (morphology, plumage), and used genetic data to determine the evolutionary history of the Atlantic Iberian yellow-legged gulls. Data from mitochondrial cytochrome b gene and microsatellite loci clearly indicate that Atlantic Iberian gulls are closely related to Mediterranean yellow-legged gulls, and do not show stronger signs of introgression with herring gulls relative to other populations of yellow-legged gulls. Atlantic Iberian yellow-legged gulls are more similar to herring gulls in body size and shape than to other yellow-legged gulls populations, but not in mantle colour and wing-tip pattern. Body size and other phenotypic and life history similarities with the herring gull ( L. argentatus argenteus ) such as voice, winter plumage and breeding phenology, previously described in several studies, might thus be interpreted as convergent characters. Within the yellow-legged gull, the high F st-values obtained from four nuclear microsatellite loci indicate substantial population structure and reduced levels of gene flow between gull populations in Mediterranean France and Atlantic Iberia. Differences among these populations in breeding phenology and migration patterns, likely resulting from different local selection pressures, might contribute to this low level of gene flow.  相似文献

银[鱼句](Squalidus argentatus)是长江常见小型鱼类,分布广泛于干支流,资源量较大。本研究采用线粒体DNA(mtDNA)细胞色素b基因序列对长江中上游干流江津、荆州、监利、洪湖、黄石江段及支流赤水河、湘江等7个江段共217尾银[鱼句]样品的遗传结构和遗传多样性进行了分析。结果显示,银[鱼句]群体Cyt b基因序列分别检出了81个变异位点和97个单倍型,平均单倍型多样性(Hd)和核苷酸多样性(Pi)分别为0.966和0.008 6。分子方差分析(AMOVA)显示,长江中上游银[鱼句]群体存在显著遗传分化。群体间两两比较分析发现,赤水河群体与其他群体基因交流程度低,遗传分化显著,其他群体间没有显著遗传分化。中性检验结果不支持银 历史上发生过群体扩张。  相似文献

Cryptocotyle lingua (Creplin) is a digenean trematode parasite of the littoral prosobranch gastropod Littorina littorea (L.). The literature suggests the snails become infected by grazing guano of the final host, the herring gull, Larus argentatus Pontoppidan. The parasite emerges from the snail as free-swimming cercariae. Interactions between the snail and the parasite at cellular and life-history levels are well established, but little is known of the influences the interaction has on the behaviour and the ecology of the snail. We tested the response of the snail to encounters with cercariae, examined the longevity of the guano on-shore and tested the responses of the snail to encounters with guano. Over half the L. littorea tested were able to detect both cercariae and a filtered homogenate of cercariae in conspecific mucus trails, approximately one-third of animals refusing to cross the treatments. Chemoreception by the mouth or foot is considered the most likely means of detection. Guano samples (mean weight 3.22 g) naturally deposited at approximately mid-tide level were completely washed away by one tidal inundation. We consider this period too brief to allow for ingestion of eggs in guano by the snail. Further, snails would not cross guano placed in conspecific trails. Most snails would not cross guano diluted by 103×(10 mg ml−1) and some snails could still detect guano diluted by 106×(10 μg ml−1), though all were prepared to cross it. Detection of guano is again believed to be by chemoreception by the mouth or foot. These results are discussed in terms of the mating and aggregating behaviour of L. littorea. Ingestion of the parasite by L. littorea is likely to take place once the guano has washed away as the eggs are negatively buoyant in seawater and may adhere to rock (biofilm) or algal fronds which may be grazed by the snail.  相似文献

According to current theory, the splitting of a single species into two is best observed by a ring of intergrading populations which occupy a ring-shaped distribution area and whose terminal populations not only meet but overlap and co-occur without or with only little hybridization. The three most discussed examples in birds are revisited here. The great tit complex (Parus major s. l.) turned out to be an assemblage of four subspecies groups forming a secondary ring of population. The herring gull/lesser black-backed gull complex (Larus argentatus s. l.) forms a circumpolar circle of intergrading populations, but lacks the crucial cornerstone, the geographical overlap. The greenish warbler complex (Phylloscopus trochiloides s. l.) is close to the ideal ring species, but the ring is not complete and the Siberian zone of overlap needs further clarification and characterisation.  相似文献

将南海北部白姑鱼分成南海北部大陆架和北部湾两个不同海域群体,根据20世纪60年代和90年代在南海北部底拖网渔业资源调查资料,利用ELEFAN技术估算了南海北部白姑鱼的生长和死亡参数.结果表明,北部湾和陆架区的生长参数L、K、t0分别为382 mm、0.42、-0.16龄和315 mm、0.35、-0.23龄.体重生长拐点年龄tr分别为2.44和2.87龄; 瞬时总死亡率(Z)、自然死亡率(M)和捕捞死亡率(F)分别为3.55、0.93、2.62和3.12、0.85、2.27;当前开发率为0.74和0.73,资源处于过度利用状态.根据Beverton-Holt动态综合模型,建议北部湾和陆架区白姑鱼的最适开捕年龄应大于1.90和1.95龄,相应的开捕体长大于211和168 mm.  相似文献
