Chemical signals provide important cues in social behavior of many mammalian speciesly, mediating sexual, aggressive, parental and spacing behavior, as well as influencing an animals internal hormonal milieu. Conspecific novel males substrate was given as individual odor stimulus to adult male Brandts voles(Microtus brandti) that left in individual cases in long\|photoperiod (LD) and short\|photoperiod (SD) resfectioely. The plasma testosterone of these male actors was mensurated by radioimmunoassay. The results indicated that plasma testosterone increased with the duration that the male vole was exposed to the odor of a novel male. Plasma testosterone concentration in LD males increased sigrificanily than those in SD males in 30 minutes.After 1 hour or 2 hours, exposed to the novel scents, the testosterone levels of LD males were higher than SD males, but didnt show significant difference. The results demonstrated that the chemical signals induced releasing of androgen and the increase of plasma testosterone of males voles exposed to novel conspecific odors was also influenced by the photoperiod. It suggest that the change of testosterone concentration would underlie the odor producing and odor preferences of Brandts vole.  相似文献

Rat fetuses exposed to an odor stimulus and an aversive stimulus in utero showed an aversion to the odor when tested 16 days postnatally. Fetuses that also received 80 μg/kg Met-enkephalin showed a greater aversion to the odor stimulus than those subjects that did not receive the peptide. The difference between these groups was marginally significant. Control subjects did not show an aversion. But, subjects exposed to the odor and Met-enkephalin without the aversive stimulus, when tested, showed a significant preference for the odor over other control groups. These data show that associative learning in rat fetuses at 20 days of gestation may be enhanced by administration of Met-enkephalin.  相似文献

This video demonstrates a technique to establish the presence of a normally functioning olfactory system in a mouse. The test helps determine whether the mouse can discriminate between non-social odors and social odors, whether the mouse habituates to a repeatedly presented odor, and whether the mouse demonstrates dishabituation when presented with a novel odor. Since many social behavior tests measure the experimental animal’s response to a familiar or novel mouse, false positives can be avoided by establishing that the animals can detect and discriminate between social odors. There are similar considerations in learning tests such as fear conditioning that use odor to create a novel environment or olfactory cues as an associative stimulus. Deficits in the olfactory system would impair the ability to distinguish between contexts and to form an association with an olfactory cue during fear conditioning. In the odor habitation/dishabituation test, the mouse is repeatedly presented with several odors. Each odor is presented three times for two minutes. The investigator records the sniffing time directed towards the odor as the measurement of olfactory responsiveness. A typical mouse shows a decrease in response to the odor over repeated presentations (habituation). The experimenter then presents a novel odor that elicits increased sniffing towards the new odor (dishabituation). After repeated presentation of the novel odor the animal again shows habituation. This protocol involves the presentation of water, two or more non-social odors, and two social odors. In addition to reducing experimental confounds, this test can provide information on the function of the olfactory systems of new knockout, knock-in, and conditional knockout mouse lines.  相似文献

Aromatherapy is an anecdotal method for modifying sleep and mood. However, whether olfactory exposure to essential oils affects night‐time objective sleep remains untested. Previous studies also demonstrate superior olfactory abilities in women. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of an olfactory stimulus on subsequent sleep and assessed gender differences in such effects. Thirty‐one young healthy sleepers (16 men and 15 women, aged 18 to 30 yr, mean±SD, 20.5±2.4 yr) completed 3 consecutive overnight sessions in a sleep laboratory: one adaptation, one stimulus, and one control night (the latter 2 nights in counterbalanced order). Subjects received an intermittent presentation (first 2 min of each 10 min interval) of an olfactory (lavender oil) or a control (distilled water) stimulus between 23:10 and 23:40 h. Standard polysomnographic sleep and self‐rated sleepiness and mood data were collected. Lavender increased the percentage of deep or slow‐wave sleep (SWS) in men and women. All subjects reported higher vigor the morning after lavender exposure, corroborating the restorative SWS increase. Lavender also increased stage 2 (light) sleep, and decreased rapid‐eye movement (REM) sleep and the amount of time to reach wake after first falling asleep (wake after sleep onset latency) in women, with opposite effects in men. Thus, lavender serves as a mild sedative and has practical applications as a novel, nonphotic method for promoting deep sleep in young men and women and for producing gender‐dependent sleep effects.  相似文献

目的:明确大汗腺组织中ApoD和AR的表达水平与腋臭患者散发出气味间的关系,阐明两者在腋臭发病中的作用,为腋臭的临床治疗和干预奠定基础。方法:收集在我院整形外科就诊的腋臭病人腋下皮肤组织标本41例。手术前由3名医生共同判断患者腋下气味强度,按照能在≤1 m、≤3 m、≤5 m距离闻及气味把患者分为轻、中、重三组。随机抽取各组标本组织块进行RT-PCR检测,测定ApoD和AR在大汗腺组织中的含量。结果:根据气味强度判定标准,轻、中和重3组患者人数分别为:7人、11人和23人。按照AB 7500 Real-Time PCR系统分析结果所示ApoD相对表达量的等级与气味强度之间有线性关系(P0.05),ApoD相对表达量的等级随着气味强度的增加而升高;AR相对表达量的等级与气味强度之间有线性关系(P0.05),随着气味强度的增加而升高。结论:ApoD和AR的表达量与腋臭气味强度之间有着密切的联系。进一步证实AR可调节大汗腺组织ApoD的表达,为明确腋臭的发病机制提供了理论依据。  相似文献

The social interactions between Apodemus agrarius and A. flavicollis, and their behavioral responses to conspecific and heterospecific odors, were studied in male–male and female–female interspecific dyadic encounters, and an attraction–avoidance test was used in order to clarify the behavioral mechanisms which control their relationships in wild populations. The experiments were carried out at the beginning and at the end of the breeding season—in spring and in autumn. In spring the aggressiveness was higher than in autumn. Males of both species showed attraction to conspecific odors from the opposite sex, while the females were indifferent. In autumn both males and females displayed attraction to conspecific odors from the same sex. However, mice of both species showed avoidance to heterospecific odors from the same and the opposite sex in spring, and indifference to heterospecific odors from the same and the opposite sex in autumn. Based on these findings, it could be assumed that the patterns of social interactions and responses to conspecific and heterospecific odors undergo seasonal changes in their life cycle. Probably the avoidance response to heterospecific odors could serve as a spacing mechanism to avoid aggressive encounters between A. agrarius and A. flavicollis in syntopic habitats during the breeding period.  相似文献

Oscillatory phenomena have been a focus of dynamical systems research since the time of the classical studies on the pendulum by Galileo. Fast cortical oscillations also have a long and storied history in neurophysiology, and olfactory oscillations have led the way with a depth of explanation not present in the literature of most other cortical systems. From the earliest studies of odor-evoked oscillations by Adrian, many reports have focused on mechanisms and functional associations of these oscillations, in particular for the so-called gamma oscillations. As a result, much information is now available regarding the biophysical mechanisms that underlie the oscillations in the mammalian olfactory system. Recent studies have expanded on these and addressed functionality directly in mammals and in the analogous insect system. Sub-bands within the rodent gamma oscillatory band associated with specific behavioral and cognitive states have also been identified. All this makes oscillatory neuronal networks a unique interdisciplinary platform from which to study neurocognitive and dynamical phenomena in intact, freely behaving animals. We present here a summary of what has been learned about the functional role and mechanisms of gamma oscillations in the olfactory system as a guide for similar studies in other cortical systems.

A flight tunnel study was done to decipher the behavioral effect of grape odor in grapevine moth Lobesia botrana. A blend of 10 volatile compounds, which all elicit a strong antennal response, attracts mated grapevine moth females from a distance, by upwind orientation flight. These 10 grape volatiles are in part behaviorally redundant, since attraction to a 3-component blend of beta-caryophyllene, (E)-beta-farnesene and (E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene was not significantly different from the 10-component blend. Blending these three compounds had a strong synergistic effect on female attraction, and omission of any one compound from this 3-component blend almost abolished attraction. It was nonetheless possible to substitute the three compounds with the other grape volatiles which are perceived by the female antenna, to partly restore attraction. Several blends, of varying composition, elicited significant attraction. The observed behavioral plasticity in response to grape volatile blends probably reflects the variation of the natural plant signal, since females oviposit on different grape varieties, in different phenological stages.  相似文献

Synthesis of both enantiomers of methyl 4,5-didehydrojasmonate (1, Delta(4,5)-MJA; >99.8% ee), a constituent of jasmin absolute, established the absolute configuration of the natural product, and their odor quality was evaluated. The fragrance of the natural (3S,7R)-enantiomer (a fresh natural, sweet floral fruity odor, reminiscent of Jasmin and Ylang Ylang flower, more intensive and tenacious) was superior to that of the unnatural (3R,7S)-enantiomer (a floral green odor with slight metallic green aspect, less intensive than the natural form) and the racemate (green-floral note, having weak and less volume than methyl jasmonate). Odor difference between natural and unnatural enantiomers of methyl jasmonate (2) is also reported.  相似文献
