The distribution and moments, of ANOVA estimator of heritability are given under unbalanced random model. These expressions are used to investigate the effect of unbalancedness on the bias and variance/MSE of the estimator and also the validity of certain approximations for its variance, numerically. The computed results reveal that the unbalancedness increases both the bias and variance/MSE of the estimator and the Smith-approximation for the variance of the estimator provides better accuracy.  相似文献

In birds, many behavioral and physiological processes that occur during reproduction show daily rhythms in response to environmental temporal constraints. In this study, the individual daily organization of laying and its genetic determinant in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were analyzed. For this purpose, the oviposition time of 102 randomly chosen females, maintained in long-day photoperiodic conditions (LD 14h:10h) for 1 mon was observed and extreme phenotypes selected. Laying is characterized by two parameters: oviposition interval and laying hour.

The birds showed a specific time of laying during 24 h. All eggs were laid in the afternoon between 6.5 and 14 h after lights on (HALO). Two laying profiles were determined: 20% of females with an oviposition interval greater than 24 h (24.7±0.2 h) (the “delayed” profile) laid progressively later each day until a pause day. The remaining 80% of the females laid at the same time each day, with few pause days and an oviposition interval close to 24 h (24.0±0.2 h) (the “stable” profile). Among the females, showing this last profile, an intra-individual stability and an inter-individual variability of laying hour was established. Two extreme laying phenotypes were then determined: the “early” phenotype (E) for females laying on average between 7.5 and 9.5 HALO and the “late” phenotype (L) for females laying between 12.5 and 14 HALO.

In order to study the genetic basis of the laying hour, three females of each extreme phenotype were selected and crossed with two different males. The E and L females produced 57 F1E and 42 F1L daughters, respectively. F1 females displayed both laying profiles. However, the proportion of females displaying a “delayed” profile was higher in the L line (50%) than in the E line (29.8%). For the “stable” daughters, artificial selection induced an advance in laying hour of 4.7% for the E line and a delay of 4.7% for the L line. Realized heritability was estimated at 0.5. Moreover, the laying hour of the daughters was correlated positively to that of the mothers (N=61;r=0.45). These results support the notion of heritability of oviposition time in Japanese quail.  相似文献

为探讨CL系列甘蔗品种作杂交亲本的遗传特点,采用3×3不完全双列杂交(NCⅡ)遗传设计,估算了7个产量和品质性状的遗传方差、一般配合力(GCA)和特殊配合力(SCA)。结果表明:锤度的遗传主要受母本加性基因效应控制,株高的遗传主要受父母本加性基因控制,而锤重的遗传主要受非加性基因效应所制约;CL83-1163作为母本,糖分配合力高,且能把高糖特性传递给后代,CL88-4730为父本,产量和品质性状的配合力大,其杂交后代表现高产高糖;根据配合力总效应(TCA),综合表现好的组合有CL83-1364×CL88-4730、CL83-1900×CL84-3152、CL83-1163×CL88-4730,可用于今后的甘蔗有性育种计划。  相似文献

目前有关儿童青少年坐高、下肢长及其比值的报道多为非双生子人群的研究。为了解遗传和环境因素对儿童青少年坐高、下肢长及坐高与下肢长比值影响的相对大小,我们对796对6~18岁双生子的身高和坐高进行了测量,计算下肢长及坐高与下肢长比值,采用结构方程模型分析其遗传和环境相对效应。结果发现,校正年龄后,男女15~18岁年龄组坐高和下肢长的遗传度(0.63~0.78)均分别高于同性别低年龄段儿童青少年(0.31~0.68);坐高与下肢长比值的遗传度除9~11岁女生(0.84)外,其他年龄组均较低(男0.16~0.46,女0.21~0.57);共同环境因素和特殊环境因素对6~14岁儿童青少年各指标的作用较大。本研究提示,在快速发育时期,坐高、下肢长和坐高与下肢长比值对环境因素更为敏感,遗传度较低;机体越成熟,其遗传效应更强。  相似文献

Genetic selection focused purely on production traits has proven very successful in improving the productive performance of livestock. However, heightened environmental and infectious disease challenges have raised the need to also improve the resilience of animals to such external stressors, as well as their efficiency in utilising available resources. A better understanding of the relationship between efficiency and production and health traits is needed to properly account for it in breeding programmes and to produce animals that can maintain high production performance in a range of environmental conditions with minimal environmental footprint. The aim of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of genetic parameters for production, efficiency and health traits in sheep and goats. The dataset comprised 963 estimates of heritability and 572 genetic correlations collated from 162 published studies. A threelevel meta-analysis model was fitted. Pooled heritability estimates for milk production traits ranged between 0.27 ± 0.03 and 0.48 ± 0.13 in dairy goats and between 0.21 ± 0.06 and 0.33 ± 0.07 in dairy sheep. In meat sheep, the heritability of efficiency traits ranged from 0.09 ± 0.02 (prolificacy) up to 0.32 ± 0.14 (residual feed intake). For health traits, pooled heritability was 0.07 ± 0.01 (faecal egg count) and 0.21 ± 0.01 (somatic cell score) in dairy goats and 0.14 ± 0.04 (faecal egg count) and 0.13 ± 0.02 (somatic cell score) in dairy sheep. In meat sheep, the heritability of disease resistance and survival traits ranged between 0.07 ± 0.02 (mastitis) and 0.50 ± 0.10 (breech strike). Pooled estimates of genetic correlations between resilience and efficiency traits in dairy goats were not significantly different from zero with the exception of somatic cell score and fat content (?0.19 ± 0.01). In dairy sheep, only the unfavourable genetic correlation between somatic cell score and protein content (0.12 ± 0.03) was statistically significant. In meat sheep only, the correlations between growth and faecal egg count (?0.28 ± 0.11) as well as between growth and dagginess (?0.33 ± 0.13) were statistically significant and favourable. Results of this meta-analysis provide evidence of genetic antagonism between production and health in dairy sheep and goats. This was not observed in meat sheep where most of the pooled estimates had high standard errors and were non-significant. Based on the obtained results, it seems feasible to simultaneously improve efficiency and health in addition to production by including the different types of traits in the breeding goal. However, a better understanding of potential trade-offs between these traits would be beneficial. Particularly, more studies focused on reproduction and resilience traits linked to the animal’s multi-trait response to challenges are required.  相似文献

Glutathione (GSH) is a ubiquitous, redox-active, small molecule that is critical to cellular and organism health. In red blood cells (RBCs), the influence of the environment (e.g., diet and lifestyle) on GSH levels has been demonstrated in numerous studies. However, it remains unknown if levels of GSH are determined principally by environmental factors or if there is a genetic component, i.e., heritability. To investigate this we conducted a twin study. Twin studies are performed by comparing the similarity in phenotypes between mono- and dizygotic twin pairs. We determined the heritability of GSH, as well as its oxidation product glutathione disulfide (GSSG), the sum of GSH equivalents (tGSH), and the status of the GSSG/2GSH couple (marker of oxidation status, Ehc) in RBCs. In our study population we found that the estimated heritability for the intracellular concentration of GSH in RBCs was 57 %; for GSSG it was 51 %, tGSH 63 %, and Ehc 70 %. We conclude that a major portion of the phenotype of these traits is controlled genetically. We anticipate that these heritabilities will also be reflected in other cell types. The discovery that genetics plays a major role in the innate levels of redox-active species in RBCs is paradigm shifting and opens new avenues of research in the field of redox biology. Inherited RBC antioxidant levels may be important disease modifiers. By identifying the relative contributions of genes and the environment to antioxidant variation between individuals, new therapeutic strategies can be developed. Understanding the genetic determinants of these inherited traits may allow personalized approaches to relevant therapies.  相似文献
