Improving the growth and pigment accumulation of microalgae by electrochemical approaches was considered a novel and promising method. In this research, we investigated the effect of conductive polymer poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) dispersible in water on growth and pigment accumulation of Haematococcus lacustris and Euglena gracilis. The results revealed that effect of PEDOT:PSS was strongly cell-dependent and each cell type has its own peculiar response. For H. lacustris, the cell density in the 50 mg·l−1 treatment group increased by 50·27%, and the astaxanthin yield in the 10 mg·l−1 treatment group increased by 37·08%. However, under the high concentrations of PEDOT:PSS treatment, cell growth was significantly inhibited, and meanwhile, the smaller and more active zoospores were observed, which reflected the changes in cell life cycle and growth mode. Cell growth of E. gracilis in all the PEDOT:PSS treatment groups were notably inhibited. Chlorophyll a content in E. gracilis decreased while chlorophyll b content increased in response to the PEDOT:PSS treatment. The results laid a foundation for further development of electrochemical methods to promote microalgae growth and explore the interactions between conductive polymers and microalgae cells.  相似文献

It is estimated that more than 100 geothermal CO2 springs exist in central-western Italy. Eight springs were selected in which the atmospheric CO2 concentrations were consistently observed to be above the current atmospheric average of 354μmol mol-1. CO2 concentration measurements at some of the springs are reported. The springs are described, and their major topographic and vegetational features are reported. Preliminary observations made on natural vegetation growing around the gas vents are then illustrated. An azonal pattern of vegetation distribution occurs around every CO2 spring regardless of soil type and phytoclimatic areas. This is composed of pioneer populations of a Northern Eurasiatic species (Agrostis canina L.) which is often associated with Scirpus lacustris L. The potential of these sites for studying the long-term response of vegetation to rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations is discussed.  相似文献

In mature Phragmites australis and Scirpus lacustris vegetated sediment methane was emitted almost exclusively by plant-mediated transport, whereas in unvegetated, but otherwise identical sediment, methane was emitted almost exclusively by ebullition. Diel variations in methane emission, with highest emission rates at daytime and emission peaks following sunrise, were demonstrated for Phragmites and Scirpus. The diel difference and magnitude of the emission peaks were much smaller for Scirpus than for Phragmites. In contrast to Phragmites, methane concentrations within Scirpus stems did not change significantly over the diel period. These patterns are consistent with a two-way transport mechanism for Phragmites (convective at daytime and diffusive at night-time) and an all day diffusive mechanism for Scirpus. The patterns could not be accounted for by diel variation in air and sediment temperature, plant transpiration, or photosynthetically coupled methane production. Comparison of the experimentally derived ratio of methane emission in helium and nitrogen under light and dark conditions with the theoretical derived ratio (calculated according to the kinetic theory of gases) confirmed the exploitation of the different transport mechanism for Phragmites and Scirpus. Methane emission from Phragmites correlated significantly with incident light, which probably drove the pressure differential associated with thermally induced convection. Decrease of the radial resistance of Scirpus stems for methane transport under light compared to dark conditions, in combination with morphological characteristics of the plant species, suggested that stomatal aperture, regulated by light, controls methane emission from Scirpus. Diel variation in bubble emission from the non-vegetated sediment coincided with sediment temperature changes. The results have important implications for sampling and scaling strategies for estimating methane emission from wetlands.  相似文献

The life cycle of the zygopteran odonate Lestes viridis in two seasonal streams in the Sierra Morena Mountains is inferred from size-frequency analyses of handnet samples of larvae and records of presence and reproductive activity of adults during three consecutive years. The egg stage (duration 5–6 months) overwinters, larval development is brief (6–8 weeks) and adults undergo a protracted, prereproductive, summer diapause (up to 3 months) before mating and ovipositing in late September, about one week after the first appreciable fall of rain, but before surface water reappears in the streams after having been absent for about four months during the hot, dry summer. Comparison between this life cycle and those of more northerly populations reveals a latitude-correlated cline in phenology resembling that found in some other northern hemisphere odonates that, like L. viridis, maintain an obligatorily univoltine life cycle at different latitudes.  相似文献

In N-limited continuous chemostat cultures of the green alga Haematococcus lacustris (Gir.) Rostaf. (UTEX 16), the steady-state astaxanthin content of the cells was determined by the specific growth rate of the cultures. The highest, pigment content was obtained at the lowest dilution rate. The specific rate of astaxanthin accumulation was, however, a function of the photon flux density measured at the illuminated culture surface. In nongrowing Haematococcus cultures, the specific rate of astaxanthin accumulation was determined by the growth rate of the culture during growth phase. The highest possible cellular astaxanthin content of all cultures was comparable and independent of the culture parameters.  相似文献

The costs of parasitism to host reproduction can be best assessedusing field studies to determine overall mating success andexperimental studies to examine how parasites may affect matingbehavior. We compared the influence of two parasites, Polymorphusparadoxus and P. marilis (Acanthocephala), on the pairing successof their intermediate host (Gammarus lacustris, Crustacea) inboth the field and laboratory. Parasitism significantly loweredthe pairing success of male gammarids. In the field, P. paradoxus-infectedmales paired significantly less often than P. marilis-infectedor uninfected males. Those infected by P. marilis were alsofound in precopula significandy less often than uninfected ones.In the laboratory, the pairing success of males infected byeither parasite was significantly reduced in both competitiveand noncompetitive situations. As in the field studies, thepairing success of P. paradoxus-infected males was significantlylower than that of P. marilis-infected and uninfected males.Polymorphus marilis-infected males were also outcompeted byuninfected individuals, however, their pairing success improvedwhen alone with a female (noncompetitive experiments). We relatethe differential influence of the two parasites on the pairingsuccess of male gammarids to their effects on the physiologyand behavior of G. lacustris.  相似文献

Synchronous release of ellipsoidal biflagellated zoo-spores from thick-walled akinetes of Haematococcus lacustris (Gir.) Rostaf. (UTEX 16) was induced. After being released, the zoospores divided rapidly at a rate that depended on the initial concentration of urea in the culture medium. Cells fused after approximately five doublings, and the DNA content of most cells doubled within 50 h. Spherical nonmotile palmella cells and aplanospores appeared after 100 h of incubation in media containing high (1.7 g·L?1) and low (0.85 g·L?1) urea concentrations. Thereafter, the number of nonmotile cells increased with time, whereas motile cell numbers decreased with time. Nonmotile cells continued to grow and divide by forming 4–32 aplanospores, for up to 200 h of incubation in the high-urea medium. The size of the nonmotile cells and the number of daughter cells formed within was inversely proportional to the growth rate of the cultures. Within the first 100 h of incubation, dry weight biomass of the zoo-spores increased from about 0.3 to 0.8 g·L?1. In the following 180 h, dry weight biomass reached 1.7 g·L?1 in the low-urea medium and 2.5 g·L?1 in the high-urea medium. The astaxanthin content of zoospores decreased with time, whereas there was a net accumulation of astaxanthin in the nonmotile cells. The specific rate of accumulation of astaxanthin in motile and nonmotile cells, however, was practically identical.  相似文献

The population biology of Camallanus lacustris (Zoega) and the status of the eel, Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus), as its definitive host have been studied in a small Devon lake. No clear seasonal pattern in prevalence and abundance was observed, and recruitment of the new generation may occur in all seasons. However, reproduction exhibits some seasonality as adult nematodes were the commonest stage in the parasite population from early summer onwards and production of first-stage larvae appeared to occur primarily during this period. These larvae were viable, and shown experimentally to be infective to copepods. The occurrence of the nematode and its development to full maturity in eels, the absence of its typical definitive host ( Perca fluviatilis Linnaeus) from the lake and the absence of the nematode from other species of fish in the lake indicate that eels serve as the only, true definitive host of the nematode in this locality. It is suggested that account must be taken of this alternative host when the population of C. lacustris is investigated in the future.  相似文献

为研究雷州半岛湖栖鳍虾虎鱼(Gobiopterus lacustris)遗传多样性,对湖栖鳍虾虎鱼雌雄性腺进行转录组测序,采用MISA软件进行微卫星分析,共获得25 452个微卫星标记,其中包含14 708个单碱基重复类型,6 175个2碱基重复类型,3、4、5和6碱基重复类型数目分别为4 223、327、15和4。随机选取50个微卫星位点设计引物,能够扩增出清晰稳定条带的有39对,其中,11个位点表现出不同程度的多态,28个位点呈现单态。利用11个具有多态性的微卫星位点分析湖栖鳍虾虎鱼在廉江市高桥镇红树林保护区、湛江东海岛、雷州市附城镇和雷州市九龙山红树林国家湿地公园4个野生群体中的遗传多样性及遗传结构,11个微卫星位点呈现出不同程度的多态性,等位基因数(Na)2~15,平均等位基因为(6?3.9)个,有效等位基因数(Ne)、平均观测杂合度(Ho)和期望杂合度(He)分别在1.919~2.485、0.343~0.465和0.381~0.483之间,平均多态信息含量(PIC)为0.348~0.465。Hardy-Weinber平衡分析显示,4个群体的大部分位点未偏离平衡。在每个群体中进行连锁不平衡分析,有18对位点间显著(P 0.05)或者极显著(P 0.01)偏离连锁平衡。遗传分化系数在0.107~0.216之间,表明4个群体的遗传分化达到了中等水平以上。分子方差分析(AMOVA)显示,湖栖鳍虾虎鱼大部分的差异来自于群体内而非群体间。  相似文献

Freshwater isoetids exchanges a high proportion of the photosynthetically produced oxygen over the extensive root system and, therefore, they influence the redox potential (Eh) and phosphorus (P) availability in their sediments. Because isoetids rely on the sediment for P uptake, P may be a key element in controlling the distribution of isoetids. We investigated biomass and P availability to isoetids (Littorella uniflora and Isoetes lacustris) in a transect of five stations across the littoral zone in oligotrophic Lake Kalgaard, Denmark. At the two shallowest stations (0.6 and 1.0 m depth) the redox potential in the low organic rhizosphere sediment was high (>300 mV) and low concentrations of reduced exchangeable iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) compounds in the sediment and of precipitated Fe and Mn oxides on isoetid roots (plaques) were found. The concentration of sediment P pools was low and so was isoetid P content and isoetid biomass. At intermediate water depth (1.8 m) sediment Eh was high (300 mV) and isoetids showed low root plaque concentrations. However, higher concentration of P pools in the rhizosphere was found at 1.8 m and isoetids showed the highest P content and biomass. At deeper stations (2.8 and 4.6 m depth) Eh was low (<100 mV) in the high organic rhizosphere and high concentrations of plaques were found. The P content in the sediment was high, however, isoetids showed low biomass and low P content. We suggest that the low P content in isoetids growing on P rich organic sediments is partly due to inhibition of the P uptake because of adsorption of P to the oxidized Fe and Mn plaques. However, ratios between oxidized Fe and Fe-bound P, 150 for plaques and 40 for sediment, suggest the isoetids are able to access some of the P that is bound in the plaques. The pools of dissolved P in the porewater were 25–1100 times lower than the estimated annual P requirement for net growth of isoetids while solid fraction P pools were 20–260 times higher than the estimated annual P requirement. Clearly, the oxygen release from isoetid roots decreases the availability of P either by keeping the entire rhizosphere oxidized (low organic sediments) or by the formation of root plaques (high organic sediments).  相似文献
