The range expansion by barred owls (Strix varia) into western North America has raised considerable concern regarding their potential effects on declining northern spotted owl (Strix occidentalis caurina) populations, yet most information on the occurrence of barred owls in the region is limited to incidental detections during surveys for spotted owls. To address this shortcoming we investigated response behavior, detection probabilities, and landscape occupancy patterns of barred owls in western Oregon, USA, during conspecific versus spotted owl call-broadcast surveys. Subtle differences in barred owl response behavior to conspecific versus spotted owl vocalizations combined with minor procedural differences between species-specific survey protocols led to a sizeable difference in estimated detection probabilities during conspecific (0.66, 95% CI = 0.61–0.71) versus spotted owl (0.48, 95% CI = 0.39–0.56) surveys. We identified 61 territorial pairs of barred owls during repeated surveys of a multi-ownership study area with the probability of occupancy being highest in the structurally diverse mixture of mature and old forests that occurred almost entirely on public lands. Our findings suggest that research and management strategies to address potential competitive interactions between spotted owls and barred owls will require carefully designed, species-specific survey methods that account for erratic response behaviors and imperfect detection of both species. 接种番茄斑萎病毒番茄植株对西花蓟马生物学特性的影响   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
西花蓟马Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande)是我国的一种重要入侵害虫。本文研究了西花蓟马在番茄3种处理(健康CK、机械接种番茄斑萎病毒MI、机械损伤MD)叶片上的生长发育、存活及种群增长。结果表明:健康、机械接种番茄斑萎病毒、机械损伤叶片上的发育历期依次为12.68、12.99和11.79d。雌雄成虫寿命和雌虫繁殖能力在各处理叶片上差异不显著(P>0.05)。健康、机械接种番茄斑萎病毒、机械损伤叶片上的内禀增长率依次为0.1362、0.1526和0.1292d-1。本研究表明,接种番茄斑萎病毒的番茄叶片未缩短西花蓟马发育历期,也不能延长寿命及提高产卵量,不能明显加速种群数量增长。这意味着番茄斑萎病毒对西花蓟马在番茄叶片上的生物学特性未能产生明显的有利作用。  相似文献

采用叶管药膜法在室内测定了2009—2010年北京海淀地区和昌平地区西花蓟马Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande)田间种群对12种杀虫剂敏感性的年度变化。结果表明,北京昌平和海淀地区的西花蓟马对多数的药剂仍处于敏感状态,但对氯氟氰菊酯已产生近40倍的抗性,昌平种群对多杀菌素具有产生低水平抗性的趋势(抗性倍数为4倍)。推荐药剂包括多杀菌素、阿维菌素、甲氨基阿维菌素苯甲酸盐(甲维盐)、毒死蜱和溴虫腈,应注意与其它药剂的轮换使用,灭多威对西花蓟马的毒力水平最低,不推荐使用。  相似文献

Breeding dispersal among territorial species is of interest to population biologists because leaving a territory carries fundamental risks to the dispersing individuals, and this may not outweigh the costs of maintaining the territory. Most studies of breeding dispersal have focused on species inhabiting spatially open populations, in which undetected emigration could impart a negative bias to estimates of dispersal. We studied breeding dispersal in an isolated (spatially closed) population of California Spotted Owl Strix occidentalis occidentalis in southern California for 12 years to assess factors that might correlate with breeding dispersal. Twenty‐nine per cent (n = 47) of territorial females and 19% (n = 35) of territorial males dispersed at least once during the study. Annually, 0–13% of the territorial females and 0–12% of the territorial males dispersed. Among a set of a priori and post hoc models related to breeding dispersal, the top a priori model indicated that birds having higher reproductive output relative to the population average were less likely to disperse. A post hoc model based on an index of territory quality was ranked higher than the top a priori model and indicated that birds occupying higher quality territories were less likely to disperse. These two models were correlated and represented short‐ and long‐term reproductive performance, respectively. Birds that dispersed also failed to fledge young in the year prior to dispersal, but the failure to fledge young did not, by itself, explain dispersal. Because Spotted Owls are long‐lived, they may ultimately improve their reproduction by dispersing given that they would have future opportunities to breed over the long term. Birds whose mates are likely to have died tended to improve their reproductive success, whereas the relationship between reproductive success of birds that divorced was less clear. Substantial variation in breeding dispersal was unexplained by our analysis so it is likely that the motivation to disperse was a complex process in this population.  相似文献

Gradual changes in vegetation structure and composition are expected to result from continuous environmental change with increasing elevation on mountains. Hence, the occurrence of abrupt or discrete ecotones in vegetation patterns is intriguing and may suggest key controls on community assembly in montane forests. We review tropical montane forest (TMF) zonation patterns focusing on a case study from the Cordillera Central, Hispaniola where a striking discontinuity in forest composition occurs consistently at ~2000 m elevation, with cloud forest below and monodominant pine forest above. We propose that a discontinuity in climatic factors (temperature, humidity) associated with the trade‐wind inversion (TWI) is the primary cause of this and other ecotones in TMFs that occur at a generally consistent elevation. Low humidity, fires and occasional frost above the TWI favor pine over cloud forest species. Fires in the high‐elevation pine forest have repeatedly burned down to the ecotone boundary and extinguished in the cloud forest owing to its low flammability, reinforced by high humidity, cloud immersion and epiphytic bryophyte cover. Small‐scale fire patterns along the ecotone are influenced by topography and where forest structure is impacted by hurricanes and landslides. Analogous patterns are observed worldwide in other TMFs where the TWI is important, high‐elevation fires are frequent, and the flora contains frost‐tolerant species (often of temperate lineage). The response of this and other TMFs to anthropogenic climate change is highly uncertain owing to potentially countervailing effects of different climatic phenomena, including warming temperatures and decreased frost; changes in the TWI, high‐elevation drought or cloudiness; and increased frequency or intensity of hurricanes and El Niño‐Southern Oscillation events.  相似文献

Spiromesifen is a novel insecticide/acaricide belonging to the new chemical class of spirocyclic phenyl-substituted tetronic acids, and it is especially active against whiteflies and tetranychid spider mite species. In the biologically based integrated pest management (IPM) programs in vegetable crops in southeastern Spain, the key natural enemies include the parasitoid Eretmocerus mundus Mercet (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) for sweetpotato whitefly control, and the minute pirate bug, Orius laevigatus (Fieber) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) for western flower thrips control. Side effects of spiromesifen on E. mundus and O. laevigatus, were evaluated by laboratory studies and field trials in commercial greenhouses under IPM programs. Results indicate that spiromesifen had favourable selectivity to O. laevigatus and E. mundus and would complement biological control of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) by E. mundus. Asymmetric trans-esterification of meso-2,5-dibromoadipate to (–)-benzyl methyl 2,5-dibromoadipate by lipase with subsequent chemical reactions afforded optically active cis-2,5-disubstituted pyrrolidines. The capturing efficiency of four coloured (yellow, green, white and blue) sticky traps, placed at the top, middle and bottom strata of cotton plants, was tested for the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), and its predatory bug, Orius niger (Wolff) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae), as well as spatial distributions of both insects on the plant in years 2006 and 2007. The white coloured trap was the most attractive to F. occidentalis and O. niger in the 2-year study. The blue coloured trap was the least attractive for Orius. The mean numbers of F. occidentalis and O. niger on the top plant parts (flowers and leaves) and in all coloured traps positioned on the upper parts of the plants were greater than those found in the lower two strata. Taylor's power law analysis showed that F. occidentalis and O. niger adults aggregated in the flowers or on the leaves. This study suggests that top flowers could be preferentially sampled to determine population densities of Frankliniella flower thrips and Orius species in cotton, and thus, sticky traps should be placed on the top level of plants. F. occidentalis: O. niger ratios in the flowers varied from 4 to 60 thrips per Orius adult in the three plant strata. This result may indicate that F. occidentalis experiences more predation from Orius.  相似文献
