Summary Effects of calcium phosphate supply on plant dry matter and phosphorus concentrations of parts of jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) seedlings grown in a lateritic topsoil from the jarrah forest were examined in two glasshouse trials. Phosphorus deficiency depressed root and shoot dry weights and severely deficient leaves were smal and purple with prominent red major veins. Phosphorus deficiency severely reduced stem phosphorus levels (0.5% to 0.02%, experiment 1). Phosphorus concentrations were higher in bark than wood and the amount of phosphorus in the bark was sensitive to stem age and phosphate supply. Phosphorus adequate plants had bark phosphorus concentrations in the range 0.2–0.9% compared to <0.1% in deficient plants (experiment 2). Jarrah leaves accumulated dry matter up to 80 days after expansion and some leaves exported phosphorus during this period. Bark analysis may therefore be preferable to leaf analysis for detecting phosphorus deficiency in this species.  相似文献

女贞(LigustrumbucidumAit)和白蜡树(FraxinuschinensisRoxb)是白蜡虫的两种主要寄主树。树皮由外向内为周皮,皮层,初生韧皮部的纤维束和次生韧皮部.它们的筛管分子具复筛板或单筛板,具P-蛋白质和筛管淀粉。伴胞为与筛管分等长的一列或单个细胞。筛管寿命在女贞中最长为一年,在白蜡树中则不超过8个月.形成层活动时间在女贞中是3月中下旬到11月中旬,在白蜡树中是3月中下旬到11月下旬.两种树木的木质部和韧皮部在3月中旬已开始分化,木质部和韧皮部分化停止的时间在女贞中分别是11月中旬和12月下旬;在白蜡树中分别是9月下旬和11月下旬.两种树木在冬季都有部分分化的筛管分子,白蜡树中的部分分化的筛管分子于秋季形成,翌年3月中旬成熟,同年9—10月瓦解。女贞枝条冬季平均保留170.2μm的具功能韧皮部区;而白蜡树在径向仅保留数列细胞宽的具功能韧皮都区越冬.  相似文献

A unique microbiome occurs within the flower heads of various Protea species endemic to Africa. These include two lineages of ophiostomatoid fungi, Knoxdaviesia (Microascales) and Sporothrix (Ophiostomatales), that have members occurring exclusively in this environment and that rely on mites as their primary mode of spore dissemination. The mites, in turn, attach to the bodies of Protea-pollinating beetles and the beaks and bodies of birds for long-distance movement, establishing a hierarchical dispersal network for the ophiostomatoid fungi. This inter-organismal network is highly successful, achieving fungal dispersal over vast distances. Multiple species of fungi, mites and bacteria have been described from this unique niche over the past four decades. The intricacies of their symbiotic interactions continue to be unravelled. This review covers all current knowledge of the “distinctly African” Protea-ophiostomatoid fungus environment and illustrates the depth of a fascinating unseen fungal biodiversity niche.  相似文献

The root bark structure of Quercus robur L. was analysed at different stages of root development and compared to the structure of stem bark. Root bark thickness varied considerably between different roots. Sclereid quantity decreased with increasing distance from the stem, which means it increased with age. Visible growth increments diminished with increasing distance from the stem. In lateral roots crystal quantity decreased with increasing distance from the stem. In lateral roots secondary phloem fibre length, sieve tube member length, and sieve tube diameter showed no regular trend. There were only a few basic structural differences between root and stem bark. The zone of cell differentiation (cell expansion, lignification) was wider in root bark; sieve tube collapse was delayed. In lateral root bark fewer sclereids were formed. The first-formed periderm often originated from deeper cell layers. Thus, primary elements were lacking after periderm formation. In root bark the phellem cell walls were of equal thickness. Thus, phellem lacked visible growth increments. Root bark phellem cells were slightly larger. The root phelloderm was more distinct. The secondary phloem fibres were slightly shorter than those in stem bark. Sieve tube members of stem and root bark were of similar length and diameter. The qualitative bark anatomical characters of oak root bark are suitable for root identifications. Due to minor structural differences between root and stem bark the characters must be used with care.  相似文献

Three coniferous tree species (Pseudotsuga menziesii, Tsuga heterophylla, and Thuja plicata) at Capilano Canyon, British Columbia, were studied for their epiphytic communities. Quantitative data were obtained for fourteen bryophyte species by sampling at heights of 0.5 m, 1 m and 2 m above ground level. Scapania bolanderi is an abundant and widely distributed species; Dicranum fuscescens, Bazzania denudata, Lepidozia reptans and Hypnum circinale are also common. An environmentally uniform study area was chosen to minimize the effects of factors other than bark and elevation on the distribution of epiphytes. In general, tree species are similar in terms of their epiphytic assemblages, but ordination methods using quantitative data exposed compositional variation that may be explained by differences in microclimate and bark-type. In this respect, the results point the way to further studies to examine epiphyte associations in closer detail, and to relate these associations to specific factors in the microenvironment.Nomenclature for vascular plants follows Hitchcock & Cronquist (1973); bryophyte nomenclature follows Schofield (1976) for mosses and Stotler & Crandall-Stotler (1977) for hepatics.We thank Dr. W. A survey of seasonal bark proteins in eight temperate hardwoods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Summary Bark proteins of eight temperate hardwoods were analyzed by SDS-PAGE at monthly intervals to determine whether an accumulation of specific proteins, potential storage proteins, occurred in the fall at the time of leaf senescence. Storage proteins were identified as proteins that accumulated during the fall and were present in reduced amounts in the summer. Total protein levels were higher in the winter than in the summer in Fagus sylvatica, Fraxinus americana, Tilia americana, Alnus glulinosa, Betula papyrifera and Querus rubra, but not in Gleditsia triacanthos or Robinia pseudoacacia. Betula contained the most abundant storage protein, although in all species minor bands, which fluctuated seasonally, could be identified. With the exception of Alnus and Betula, results generally correlated with previous microscopy studies of these tree species, which showed varying amounts of protein storage vacuoles present in phloem parenchyma cells during the winter, but not during the summer.  相似文献

Summary The antennal sensilla inI. typographus are almost exclusively confined to the flattened terminal flagellar segment. The sensillar types have distinct distribution patterns in the three areas where they are found. Judging from the ultrastructural characteristics the following functions can be assigned to the sensillar types: chemoreception, single-walled and double-walled sensilla; chemoreception/mechanoreception, terminal-pore sensillum. Moreover there are two types of mechanoreceptors, one of which is connected to a bristle, whereas the other terminates within the cuticle of the flagellar segment.This study was made within the Swedish project Odour Signals for Control of Pest Insects.  相似文献

The tube systems known to exist in tracheophytes are xylem, phloem and laticifers which are composed of living or non-living cells and secretory ducts/canals and aerenchyma that is of schizogenous or lysigenous origin. Here, we describe a novel type of tube network of unknown function that ramifies through the olive tree bark and is composed of groups of apparently empty, anastomosing tubules interrupted by perforated plates; side openings of the tubules connect them to the intercellular spaces of the cortex.  相似文献

Three species of Ophiostoma possessing Pesotum anamorphs isolated from bark beetles and their galleries infesting Abies species in Nikko, Japan, are described as new species. Ophiostoma nikkoense is characterized by brush-shaped synnemata producing long septate clavate conidia, perithecia with neck, and allantoid ascospores. Ophiostoma microcarpum has smaller perithecia with hyphoid ostiolar hyphae on the neck, and the ascospores are cylindrical or ossiform in side and face views.
