ABSTRACT. Monoclonal antibodies were obtained against lipopolysaccharides of Gram-negative bacterial endosymbiotes in amoebae and were used to determine the origin and distribution of the antigens. The lipopolysaccharides were located on endosymbiote's surfaces as determined by indirect immunofluorescence staining under both light and electron microscopes. In addition, host symbiosome membranes enclosing the endosymbiotes also contained the same lipopolysaccharides on the cytoplasmic side as shown by indirect immunofluorescence staining after intracellular injection of anti-lipopolysaccharide antibodies. This is the first report for the presence of symbiote-derived lipopolysaccharides on the host symbiosome membranes, and their possible roles are discussed in relation to the prevention of lysosomal fusion with symbiosomes. 相似文献

Nanoinjection of Juvenile Hormone III (JH III) into the prothoracic ganglion causes virgin female crickets Gryllus bimaculatus De Geer to become more phonotactically selective for the syllable periods (SPs) of model calling songs. Females responding to all, or almost all, of the SPs presented before JH III injection significantly narrow their responses to a range of SPs that is usually centered on the SPs included in the conspecific males' calling song. Control injections of acetone (i.e. the solvent for JH III) into the prothoracic ganglion do not significantly change the recipient females' phonotactic responses. Injection of JH III into the metathoracic ganglion also has no effect the females' phonotactic choices. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. A choreotrich ciliate collected in waters off Geoje Island, on the eastern coast of the South Sea of the southern coastal water of Korea was morphologically and biometrically investigated through observations of permanent preparations after protargol impregnations. Morphological data and ciliary patterns indicated that the ciliate should be identified as Strombidinopsis acuminata based on the number of somatic kineties. The vertical distribution of the population abundance was also examined in relation to environmental conditions: higher abundances occurred in surface water with higher temperature (22–23 °C), lower salinity (32 psu), and higher concentration (ca 10 μg/L) of chlorophyll a . The 18S rRNA gene of specimens from clonal cultures isolated from natural assemblages was sequenced. While this isolate of S. acuminata is closer to Strombidinopsis jeokjo (99.6–99.8%) than other isolates of S. acuminata (<99.0%), monophyly of S. acuminata was not rejected by the AU test. We discuss the discordance between morphological and molecular data for Strombidinopsis . In order to confirm the species level of the Strombidinopsis specimens, additional information is required based on genealogical analyses of multiple loci. 相似文献
