The aims of this study were to document the mainly chemical behaviour of two linked artificial lakes used for both stormwater management and recreation in the new town of Craigavon. Further, the understanding of their behaviour should help in their management and the design of other similar lakes.The lake mean total phosphorus (73 µg P l–1), nitrate (0.50 mg N l–1) and chlorophyll a (25 µg l–1) concentrations, Secchi depth (1.2 m) and the estimated total phosphorus loading (1.98 g m–2 a–1) all classify the main lake as eutrophic. An important source of the phosphorus load on the lakes is the urban area of Craigavon (52% of the total load). The interrelationships between total phosphorus, chlorophyll a and Secchi depth in the main lake are similar to those in natural ones. In addition, the lake follows the total phosphorus load — trophic state relationships (lake total phosphorus and chlorophyll a concentrations and Secchi depth) found to apply elsewhere. These two points indicate that the artificial lakes in Craigavon behave similarly to natural ones.  相似文献

疫病是我国植胶区的主要病害。近年来,作者从云南西双版纳和广东海南岛的橡胶树和胶园土共分离出57株疫霉菌种。通过分类研究,共鉴定出4个种:恶疫霉 Phytophthoracactorum(Leb.& Cohn)Schroeter,辣椒疫霉 P.capsici Leoman,柑桔褐腐疫霉 P.citrophthora(Sm.& Sm.)Leonian,和棕榈疫霉 P.palmivora(Butl.)Butler。其中辣椒疫霉是首次在橡胶树上发现。我国橡胶树疫霉的种群结构与东南亚和南亚的有所不同,除棕榈疫霉外,其余3种在东南亚和南亚均未发现。而东南亚常见种:簇囊疫霉(P.botryosa)、橡胶疫霉(P.heveae)和蜜色疫霉(P.meadii),在我国却迄今尚未发现或有待证实。以前报道分离自胶园土壤中的芋疫霉(P.colocasiae),可能系柑桔褐腐疫霉之误。绝大多数分离物经配对培养均可产生性器官:辣椒疫霉的A~1交配型和A~2交配型大致相等;柑桔褐腐疫霉和棕榈疫霉的A~2交配型则明显多于A~1交配型。  相似文献

Summary The effect of biliary salts and fatty acids on the bilayer structure of rabbit intestinal brush-border membranes was studied using the nonperturbing probe31P NMR. The broad. asymmetric lineshape of the31P NMR spectrum of isolated brush-border vesicles demostrates that their component phospholipids are organized in extended bilayers. These membranes are not significantly perturbed by incubation with physiological concentrations of biliary salts (3, 9, 18mm), demonstrating that the vesicles are highly stable, corresponding to their biological function. However, the emergence of a narrow peak superimposed on the broad lineshape indicates that a small proportion of the membrane phospholipids has reached isotropic motion, which may correspond to external or internal micellar structures. Incubation with mixed micelles of fatty acids and taurochlorate show that long-chain fatty acids enhance the membrane-perturbing effect of taurocholate while short-chain, watersoluble fatty acids do not, suggesting a difference in the absorption mechanisms.  相似文献

We cloned the lipoprotein gene from Proteus mirabilis and determined its DNA sequence. Comparison with the lpp genes from Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, Erwinia amylovora and Morganella morganii revealed several unique features of the evolution of the lpp gene in the Enterobacteriaceae and enabled us to establish phylogenetic relationships between these bacteria.  相似文献

Nitrobenzylthioinosine binding in brain: an interspecies study   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
The binding of the potent adenosine uptake inhibitor [3H]nitrobenzylthioinosine ( [3H]NBI) to cerebral cortical membrane preparations from human, dog, guinea pig, rat, and mouse was investigated. Reversible, specific, saturable, high affinity binding was found in all five species with similar kinetic parameters. (Kd = 0.16-0.44 nM; Bmax = 128-196 fmol/mg prot.). Dilazep, hexobendine, and dipyridamole were all high potency inhibitors of [3H]NBI binding in human, dog, guinea pig and mouse preparations but not in rat. These compounds showed a competitive inhibition of [3H]NBI binding indicating that they are acting at the same site. Discrepancies seen in the rat appear to be a unique, species related anomaly. The dihydropyridine calcium antagonists also inhibited binding with lower potency than the adenosine uptake blockers. This inhibition was most potent in dog and human and suggests a relationship between the calcium channel and the adenosine uptake site.  相似文献

Summary Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (VAM) are known to increase plant growth in saline soils. Previous studies, however, have not distinguished whether this growth response is due to enhanced P uptake or a direct mechanism of increased plant salt tolerance by VAM. In a glasshouse experiment onions (Allium cepa L.) were grown in sterilized, low-P sandy loam soil amended with 0, 0.8, 1.6 mmol P kg–1 soil with and without mycorrhizal inoculum. Pots were irrigated with saline waters having conductivities of 1.0, 2.8, 4.3, and 5.9 dS m–1. Onion colonized withGlomus deserticola (Trappe, Bloss, and Menge) increased growth from 394% to 100% over non-inoculated control plants when soil P was low ( 0.2 mmol kg–1 NaHCO3-extractable P) at soil saturation extract salinities from 1.1 dS m–1 to 8.8 dS m–1. When 0.8 and 1.6 mM P was added no dry weight differences due to VAM were observed, however, K and P concentrations were higher in VAM plants in saline treatments.Glomus fasciculatum (Gerdeman and Trappe) andGlomus mosseae (Nicol. and Gerd.) isolates increased growth of VAM tomato 44% to 193% in non-sterilized, saline soil (10 dS m–1 saturation extract) despite having little effect on growth in less saline conditions when soil P was low. Higher tomato water potentials, along with improved K nutrition by VAM in onion, indicate mechanisms other than increased P nutrition may be important for VAM plants growing under saline stress. These effects appear to be secondary to the effects of VAM on P uptake.  相似文献

Summary Root hairs have been shown to enhance P uptake by plants growing in low P soil. Little is known of the factors controlling root hair growth. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of soil moisture and P level on root hair growth of corn (Zea mays L.). The effect of volumetric soil moistures of 22% (M0), 27% (M1), and 32% (M2) and soil (Raub silt loam, Aquic Argiudoll) P levels of, 0.81 (P0), 12.1 (P1), 21.6 (P2), 48.7 (P3), and 203.3 (P4) mol P L–1 initially in the soil solution, on shoot and root growth, P uptake, and root hair growth of corn was studied in a series of pot experiments in a controlled climate chamber. Root hair growth was affected more by soil moisture than soil P. The percentage of total root length with root hairs and the density and length of root hairs on the root sections having root hairs all increased as soil moisture was reduced from M2 to M0. No relationship was found between root hair length and soil P. Density of root hairs, however, was found to decrease with an increase in soil P. No correlation was found between root hair growth parameters and plant P content, further suggesting P plays a secondary role to moisture in regulating root hair growth in soils. The increase in root hair growth appears to be a response by the plant to stress as yield and P uptake by corn grown at M0 were only 0.47 to 0.82, and 0.34 to 0.74, respectively, of that measured at M1 across the five soil P levels. The increase in root hair growth at M0, which represents an increase of 2.76 to 4.03 in root surface area, could offset, in part, the reduced rate of root growth, which was the primary reason for reduced P uptake under limited soil moisture conditions.Journal Paper No. 10,066 Purdue Univ. P release rates in five lakes were estimated from a mass balance approach and from laboratory tests. The influence of various environmental parameters on P release has been considered. The internal P loading can contribute phosphorus to overlying waters at levels comparable to the external sources (from 30 to 100%). When considering the recovery from eutrophication of the investigated lakes, the nutrient release from sediments is of critical importance.  相似文献

Measurement of Substance P Metabolites in Rat CNS   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
A procedure based on ion-exchange chromatography for chemical separation and radioimmunoassays for quantitation of substance P (SP), the SP(1-7), and C-terminal fragments, respectively, has been developed. The procedure allows the determination of these fragments in the presence of large (i.e., 50- to 100-fold) excess of parent compound. The chemical identity of isolated SP and fragments was studied with preparative electrophoresis on dilute agarose gel and with HPLC. The activity identified as SP(1-7) comigrated with the authentic standard whereas practically all activity isolated as C-terminal fragments comigrated with SP(5-11). The levels of C-terminal fragments in rat brain areas rich in SP and in spinal cord were 1-2% of those of parent compound. The levels of SP(1-7) were always higher, in the spinal cord markedly higher (three to five times). Postmortem storage of samples from brain and spinal cord indicated that SP(1-7) levels fell more rapidly than those of SP or C-terminal fragments.  相似文献

The integrated and free states of Streptomyces griseus plasmid pSG1   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
A 16.6-kb plasmid-pSG1-was isolated from Streptomyces griseus following transformation of protoplasts with unrelated plasmids. Southern hybridization experiments with radioactive probes prepared from pSG1 fragments and immobilized S. griseus DNA fragments indicated that the plasmid was present in the progenitor strain, in an integrated state. In the pSG1+ isolates plasmid sequences existed both as integrated sequences and as free plasmids. The integrated state of maintenance persisted in strains which have been cured of the free plasmid. The junction site on the plasmid was located on a 0.5-kb EcoRI-SalI fragment. The chromosomal integration site was demonstrated to be the same in all strains derived from S. griseus NRRL3851. The occurrence of both states of plasmid maintenance in the same clones indicates that an integrated pSG1 sequence does not interfere with free plasmid replication and partition. It suggests that the establishment of the free state may involve a replicative excision of pSG1 from the S. griseus chromosome.  相似文献
