Numerous regulatory mechanisms in motor control involve the presence of time delays in the controlled behavior of the system.
Experimentally, we have shown that an increase of the time delay in visual feedback induces different oscillations in control
subjects and in patients with neurological diseases during the performance of a simple compensatory tracking task. A preliminary
model is proposed to describe the oscillations observed in control subjects and in patients with neurological diseases. The
influence of delays in two feedback loops are the main components of the motor control circuitry involved in this task and
are studied from an analytical and physiological perspective. We analytically determine the influence in the model of each
of these delays on the stability of the finger position. In addition, the influence of stochastic elements (“noise”) in the
modeling equation is seen to contribute qualitatively to a more accurate reproduction of experimental traces in patients with
Parkinson's disease but not in patients with cerebellar disease. 相似文献

The main objective of this study was to assess the susceptibility of the black cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon) to the biopesticide spinosad and to a commercial formulation (GHA strain) of the entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana. Secondly, we quantified the effects of sublethal doses of spinosad on a number of A. ipsilon fitness parameters, and interactions resulting from simultaneous applications of sub-lethal doses of spinosad and B. bassiana. Under laboratory conditions, A. ipsilon third instar larvae were highly susceptible to spinosad, with an estimated LC50 of 50 ppm. The entomopathogenic fungus, B. bassiana had a lower efficacy with an estimated LC50 of 7×107 spores mL?1. Topical applications of 5, 7.5 and 10 ppm of spinosad on third instar larvae reduced larval size and increased time to pupation and to emergence. However, pupal and adult weights were not significantly different between treated and control individuals. Additivity was observed from most spinosad–B. bassiana combinations tested, thus indicating compatibility between products. We concluded that spinosad is a promising tool for controlling black cutworm larvae alone or in combination with other products. 相似文献

Cyst nematodes are important agricultural pests responsible for billions of dollars of losses each year. Plant resistance is the most effective management tool, but it requires a close monitoring of population genetics. Current technologies for pathotyping and genotyping cyst nematodes are time‐consuming, expensive and imprecise. In this study, we capitalized on the reproduction mode of cyst nematodes to develop a simple population genetic analysis pipeline based on genotyping‐by‐sequencing and Pool‐Seq. This method yielded thousands of SNPs and allowed us to study the relationships between populations of different origins or pathotypes. Validation of the method on well‐characterized populations also demonstrated that it was a powerful and accurate tool for population genetics. The genomewide allele frequencies of 23 populations of golden nematode, from nine countries and representing the five known pathotypes, were compared. A clear separation of the pathotypes and fine genetic relationships between and among global populations were obtained using this method. In addition to being powerful, this tool has proven to be very time‐ and cost‐efficient and could be applied to other cyst nematode species. 相似文献

A disease transmission model of SEIRS type with distributed delays in latent and temporary immune periods is discussed. With general/particular probability distributions in both of these periods, we address the threshold property of the basic reproduction number \(R_0\) and the dynamical properties of the disease-free/endemic equilibrium points present in the model. More specifically, we 1. show the dependence of \(R_0\) on the probability distribution in the latent period and the independence of \(R_0\) from the distribution of the temporary immunity, 2. prove that the disease free equilibrium is always globally asymptotically stable when \(R_0<1\) , and 3. according to the choice of probability functions in the latent and temporary immune periods, establish that the disease always persists when \(R_0>1\) and an endemic equilibrium exists with different stability properties. In particular, the endemic steady state is at least locally asymptotically stable if the probability distribution in the temporary immunity is a decreasing exponential function when the duration of the latency stage is fixed or exponentially decreasing. It may become oscillatory under certain conditions when there exists a constant delay in the temporary immunity period. Numerical simulations are given to verify the theoretical predictions. 相似文献

We consider pulsatile periodic stimulation of an integrate-and-fire oscillator, and investigate the possible phase-locked patterns between the intrinsic rhythm and the forcing system. These stimulations are varied according to their period and intensity, corresponding to controllable experimental parameters. Phase transition curves are derived and analyzed under functional iteration. Two different perturbative mechanisms are considered, leading to significant differences in possible behaviors. Bistability can be obtained in one case. The analysis is reduced to the investigation of two-parameter families of discontinuous maps of the circle into itself. 相似文献

Twenty-four weeds commonly found in commercial potato fields in Quebec were evaluated for their host suitability to the root-lesion nematode, Pratylenchus penetrans, under greenhouse conditions. Brown mustard (Brassica juncea) and rye (Secale cereale) were included as susceptible controls and forage pearl millet hyb. CFPM 101 (Pennisetum glaucum) as a poor host. Pratylenchus penetrans multiplied well on 22 of the 24 weed species tested (Pf/Pi ≥ rye or brown mustard). Cirsium arvense, Leucanthemum vulgare and Matricaria discoida were classified as very good hosts with a Pf/Pi ranging from 1.60 to 2.54, while Ambrosia artemisiifolia and Cyperus esculentus were classified as poor hosts with a Pf/Pi from 0.01 to 0.15. Amaranthus powellii, A. retrqflexus, Raphanus raphanistrum, Rorippa palustris, Cerastium fontanum, Spergula arvensis, Stellaria media, Chenopodium album, Vicia cracca, Elytrigia repens, Digitaria ischaemum, Echinochloa crusgalli, Panicum capillare, Setaria faberii, S. pumila, S. viridis, Polygonum convolvulus, P. scabrum and P. persicaria were intermediate hosts with Pf/Pi values ranging from 0.33 to 2.01. The plant species and the botanical family had a significant impact on nematode reproduction. The Brassicaceae family resulted in the greatest reproduction of P. penetrans, and the Cyperaceae resulted in the least. The plant life-cycle (annual vs. perennial) had no impact on nematode population. 相似文献
