The occurrence of an active CO2 transport system and of carbonic anhydrase (CA) has been investigated by mass spectrometry in the marine, unicellular rhodophyte Porphyridium cruentum (S.F. Gray) Naegeli and two marine chlorophytes Nannochloris atomus Butcher and Nannochloris maculata Butcher. Illumination of darkened cells incubated with 100 μM H13CO3? caused a rapid initial drop, followed by a slower decline in the extracellular CO2 concentration. Addition of bovine CA to the medium raised the CO2 concentration by restoring the HCO3?–CO2 equilibrium, indicating that cells were taking up CO2 and were maintaining the CO2 concentration in the medium below its equilibrium value during photosynthesis. Darkening the cell suspensions caused a rapid increase in the extracellular CO2 concentration in all three species, indicating that the cells had accumulated an internal pool of unfixed inorganic carbon. CA activity was detected by monitoring the rate of exchange of 18O from 13C18O2 into water. Exchange of 18O was rapid in darkened cell suspensions, but was not inhibited by 500 μM acetazolamide, a membrane‐impermeable inhibitor of CA, indicating that external CA activity was not present in any of these species. In all three species, the rate of exchange was completely inhibited by 500 μM ethoxyzolamide, a membrane‐permeable CA‐inhibitor, showing that an intracellular CA was present. These results demonstrate that the three species are capable of CO2 uptake by active transport for use as a carbon source for photosynthesis.  相似文献

The emerging vector of Chagas disease, Triatoma maculata (Hemiptera, Reduviidae), is one of the most widely distributed Triatoma species in northern South America. Despite its increasing relevance as a vector, no consistent picture of the magnitude of genetic and phenetic diversity has yet been developed. Here, several populations of T. maculata from eleven Colombia and Venezuela localities were analyzed based on the morphometry of wings and the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (ND4) gene sequences. Our results showed clear morphometric and genetic differences among Colombian and Venezuelan populations, indicating high intraspecific diversity. Inter‐population divergence is suggested related to East Cordillera in Colombia. Analyses of other populations from Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil from distinct eco‐geographic regions are still needed to understand its systematics and phylogeography as well as its actual role as a vector of Chagas disease.  相似文献

Abstract On the High Plains of the USA, herbicides specific for broad-leaf weeds are regularly applied to winter wheat in the early spring, sometimes late enough to coincide with the colonization of fields by cereal aphids and their natural enemies. We tested the toxicity of three such herbicides, Ally (Dupont), Rave (Syngenta) and 2,4-D ester (generic), to neonate larvae of two coccinellid species important in cereal aphid biocontrol, Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer and Hippodamia convergens Guérin-Méneville. Topical treatment of larvae with 2,4-D resulted in 25% and 60% mortality in the two species, respectively, with surviving C. maculata larvae experiencing a 5% increase in developmental time. No significant effects were noted for the other two materials, save for a 2.5% increase in developmental time for C. maculata larvae exposed to Rave. No material caused significant mortality in either species when larvae were fed on prey (Schizaphis graminum Rondani) treated with herbicide 24 h earlier, although 2,4-D reduced developmental time slightly in C. maculata. When herbicide applications are delayed enough in spring to coincide with aphid activity in wheat, farmers can reduce the risk of disrupting biological control by selecting an alternative to 2,4-D.  相似文献

Rhodella violacea (Kornmann) Wehrmeyer and Rhodella maculata Evans were investigated for ultrastructural details of vegetative and dividing cells. Rhodella violacea has a nuclear projection into the pyrenoid similar to that found in R. maculata, although the nuclear projection in R. maculata traverses a starch-lined area before contacting the pyrenoid. Unlike most, red algae, the two Rhodella species lack a peripheral encircling thylakoid in the chloroplast and have dictyosomes associated solely with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) instead of with both mitochondria and ER. Both species also have a well-developed peripheral system of ER connected to the plasmalemma by tubules, a situation found only in red algal unicells, Cell division was studied primarily in R. violacea; a less thorough examination of R. maculata showed no essential differences. Both have small, double-ringed, nucleus-associated organ files (NAOs) surrounded by moderately electron-dense material, metaphase–anaphase polar gaps in the nuclear envelope, absence of perinuclear ER. and short interzonal spindles. This pattern of mitosis is similar in most respects to that reported in the unicell Flintiella. Following mitosis, microtubules extend from the region of each NAO to its associated nucleus and to the undivided pyrenoid. The NAOs appear to apply tension to the nuclei and the pyrenoid and may be the mechanism for ensuring equal partitioning of both organdies. Two different forms of pyrenoid-nucleus association occur during mitosis. Nuclear projections into the pyrenoid, prevalent during interphase and early stages of mitosis, recede at metaphase. Then, the pyrenoid extends protrusions into the nuclear polar areas, forming a cup that partially surrounds the nucleus. Cell division and vegetative characters confirm the close taxonomic affinity of these two species of Rhodella and support their separation from the genus Porphyridium.  相似文献

Abstract

Studying the mycological flora of paddy and grass-fields we had the opportunity to isolate some species of Eutotiaceae which are of particular interest. Three species were not yet known in Italy and only one was found in a soil of mountain pasture. The last one is also common in paddy fields. One of the isolated species was a Pseudoeurotium van Beyma, ascomycete with asci containing 16 ascospores, not identifiable with the systematically related species described as Pseudoeurotium indicum (Chattopadhyay and Das Gupta) Chattopadhyay from « oryzetis » in India and Pseudoeurotium multisporum (Saito and Minoura) Stolk in Japan. Some distinct morphological differences exist between our isolates and P. multisporum; but they differ only faintly from P. indicum: that is our isolates have pedicellate asci. Therefore we suggest the new variety: Pseudoeurotium indicum (Chattopadhyay and Das Gupta) Chattopadhyay var. orizetorum nobis. Three species of the genus Emericellopsis van Beyma: E. minima Stolk, E. terricola van Beyma and E. humicola (Cain) Cain were also isolated. The first one from the paddy-fields and the last two, not yet described in Italy, from grass fields. The possible relationship between E. minima Stolk arid E. pusilla Mathur, Sukapure and Thirumalachar has been discussed.  相似文献

Pyrenophora teres f. teres and P. teres f. maculata are significant pathogens that cause net blotch of barley. An increased number of loci involved in P. teres resistance or susceptibility responses of barley as well as interacting P. teres virulence effector loci have recently been identified through biparental and association mapping studies of both the pathogen and host. Characterization of the resistance/susceptibility loci in the host and the interacting effector loci in the pathogen will provide a path for targeted gene validation for better-informed release of resistant barley cultivars. This review assembles concise consensus maps for all loci published for both the host and pathogen, providing a useful resource for the community to be used in pathogen characterization and barley breeding for resistance to both forms of P. teres.  相似文献

报道了天南星科(Araceae)花叶万年青属(Dieffenbachia)两种植物染色体数目及核型,革叶万年青(D.daguensis)品种绿帝皇的核型公式为K(2n)=2x=34=12m 18sm 4st,核型类型为"3B",核型不对称系数As.K%=66.52%。花叶万年青(D.maculata)品种粉黛叶的核型公式为K(2n)=2x=34=2M 28m 4sm,核型类型为"1B",核型不对称系数为AS.K%=55.38%。与同科的较进化的犁头尖属和斑龙芋属比较,花叶万年青属植物的核型较原始些,且天南星科植物的核型极其多样化。  相似文献
