Diphyllobothrium latum infection in human is not common in Korea and only thirty seven cases have been reported since 1921. We report two cases of fish tapeworm infection after ingestion of raw cherry salmon (Oncorhynchus masou) caught in the domestic river. Among four family members who ate together raw salmon flesh six months ago, just two, mother and daughter, were infected. It is our expectation that the salmon associated tapeworm infections would be enlisted as one of the major parasitic problems with the growing consumption of salmon in Korea.  相似文献

Analysis of the contemporary geographic distributions of mtDNA haplotypic diversity of sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka Walbaum) on the Asian part of its range and consideration of possible scenarios for microevolution of the species were performed. In total, 172 specimens of sockeye salmon from different rivers of Kamchatka, Chukotka, north coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, and from the Kuril Islands were analyzed using the entire mtDNA control region (1,010 bp) sequencing. After multiple alignments of the sequences 16 polymorphic sites were identified. Most of substitutions were detected in the first and the last thirds of the D-loop sequence, as well as one insertion was registered in the poly-T region. Two mass haplotypes (Hap_1_10T and Hap_2_13T) were revealed; they were present in most samples and differed by three substitutions and two indels. All the sequence variants were distributed among two haplogroups in compliance with the mass haplotypes. The star-shaped topology of the MST-tree points to a rapid increase in the diversity of groups, indicating a rapid expansion of the species after its number reducing in the past. The diversity of the first haplogroup was higher, but its main fraction fell on the samples from the middle reach of Kamchatka River, which seems to be a refugium during the Late Pleistocene glaciation. Presence of both haplogroups in most populations in approximately equal proportions indicates that the entire Asian part of the sockeye salmon range is a zone of secondary contact. We hypothesize that Hap_2_13T had more ancient origin and the Hap_1_10T was formed somewhat later, apparently in Asia, because almost all transitional forms between the haplogroups were found in Iturup Island populations.  相似文献

The major objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that juvenile Atlantic salmon kin occupy adjacent territories in their natural habitat in order to profit from the benefits associated with kin-biased behaviours, as has been observed under controlled laboratory conditions. Microsatellites were used to establish the relatedness of salmon fry (in their first summer of life) and parr (in their second and third summer of life) captured in adjacent territories. We did not observe a relationship between the proximity and the relatedness of either parr of the same cohort or fry in their natural habitat. Although many pairs of fry were identified as being related when sampled immediately after emergence, most family groups did not occupy adjacent territories. The high dispersal potential in rivers, the low occupation rate of the habitat and the incidence of half-sibs in nature most probably reduce the opportunity and advantage of kin-biased behaviour, in contrast to laboratory studies conducted in artificial, high-density conditions.  相似文献

Indices of the monthly post-smolt growth of three maturity groups of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar from the Drammen River in Norway were examined. Scale samples were collected from 1983 to 2003, providing a retrospective growth history for 2854 individuals. Overall post-smolt growth of all three maturity groups decreased throughout the study period. When the post-smolt year was segmented into 8 monthly indices, there was a significant decline in growth during the fourth and fifth month, typically months of maximum growth. The pre-fishery abundance of one and two sea-winter fish from Norway also showed a decline throughout the study period and was positively correlated to the post-smolt growth of fish returning to the Drammen River. Freshwater growth was negatively correlated to the pre-fishery abundance, thus indicating that factors affecting post-smolt growth during the fourth and fifth months at sea may be responsible for declining return numbers in Norway.  相似文献

Displacement of juvenile Atlantic salmon Salmo salar within an artificial stream was either spontaneous (fish left areas of shallow water in response to experimental reduction in water level) or imposed (fish were removed by the experimenter from areas of shallow water and placed at a distance from their home site). Prior to displacement, the fish showed a high degree of site fidelity in terms of preferential use of specific areas within the stream, but the extent to which this persisted once they had left/been removed from their preferred sites was variable. Direction of displacement was not a critical factor, but homing was significantly less likely to occur following spontaneous as opposed to imposed displacement. In the case of imposed displacement, fish that were more strongly site attached prior to displacement were more likely to return to their home site after this manipulation.  相似文献

Radio-tagged smolts of Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and sea trout Salmo trutta were predated heavily by sea birds after crossing the saline limit in the estuary of the River Skjern, Denmark. Most predation took place within the first 9 h after estuarine entry. The field data do not contradict the hypothesis of maladaptive anti-predatory behaviour.  相似文献

A saprolegniasis occurred in cultured sockeye salmon,Onchorhynchus nerka, raised in Hokkaido, Japan. The lesions were mainly observed in the head, peduncle region and the caudal fin. All strains isolated were morphologically classified in the genusSaprolegnia. They were identified as a new species in the genus from the characteristics of the sexual organs, and namedSaprolegnia salmonis.  相似文献
