Background and Aims: Oxalis pes-caprae is a widespread invasive weed in regions witha Mediterranean climate. In its native habitat (southern Africa)this species has been reported as heterostylous with trimorphicflowers and a self- and morph-incompatible reproductive system.In most of the areas invaded, only a pentaploid short-styledmorphotype that reproduces mainly asexually by bulbils is reported,but this has only been confirmed empirically. This study aimsto analyse the floral morph proportions in a wide distributionarea, test the sexual female success, and explain the causesof low sexual reproduction of this species in the western areaof the Mediterranean Basin. Methods: Fifty-five populations of O. pes-caprae were sampled in theIberian Peninsula and Morocco to evaluate the floral morph ratioand individual fruit set. In plants from a dimorphic population,hand-pollination experiments were performed to evaluate theeffect of the pollen source on pollen tube growth through thestyle. The ploidy level and genome size of individuals of eachfloral morph were analysed using flow cytometry. Key Results: From the populations studied 89·1 % were monomorphic,with most of them containing the short-styled (SS) floral morph,and 10·9 % were dimorphic containing long-styled(LS) and SS morphs. In some of these, isoplethy was verifiedbut no fruit production was observed in any population. A sterileform was also recorded in several populations. Hand-pollinationexperiments revealed that pollen grains germinated over recipientstigmas. In intermorph crossings, pollen tubes were able todevelop and fruit initiation was observed in some cases, whilein intramorph pollinations, pollen tube development was sporadicand no fruit initiation was observed. All individuals withineach floral form presented the same DNA ploidy level: SS plantswere pentaploid and LS and the sterile form were tetraploid. Conclusions: The low or null sexual reproduction success of this speciesin the area of invasion studied seems related with the highfrequency of monomorphic populations, the unequal proportionof floral morphs in dimorphic populations and the presence ofdifferent ploidy levels between SS and LS morphs. The discoveryof the occurrence of an LS floral morph and a sterile form,whose invading capacity in these areas is as yet unknown, willbe valuable information for management programmes.  相似文献

分别以‘底莱特’和‘大粒红无核’自交、‘红宝石无核’ב新郁’和‘爱莫无核’ב黑奥林’胚珠为材料进行无核葡萄胚挽救影响因素的研究。结果显示:(1)‘底莱特’自交和‘红宝石无核’ב新郁’胚珠剥胚后萌发率分别为11.4%和10.0%,高于横切胚珠情况下的萌发率(5.5%、0.6%);(2)用Nitsch培养基培养的‘大粒红无核’自交和‘爱莫无核’ב黑奥林’胚珠的胚萌发率分别为9.5%和5.6%,胚状体诱导率分别为6.3%和3.9%,明显高于ER培养基的萌发率。结果表明:剥胚有利于无核葡萄胚的萌发;Nitsch比ER培养基更有利于胚萌发和胚状体诱导;同时,由于杂交亲本染色体倍性的差异导致胚萌发率不同,表现为:二倍体无核自交>二倍体无核×二倍体有核>二倍体无核×四倍体有核。  相似文献

在生长均匀的茶园喷施氰戊菊酯(fenvalerate),采摘施药后2 h和1 h、2 h、3 h、5 h、7 h、9 h、14 h、21天的茶树鲜叶加工成绿茶,用气相色谱法测定成茶、茶汤和茶渣中反式氰戊菊酯和顺式氰戊菊酯的含量,研究了氰戊菊酯在成茶、茶汤中的残留动态。结果表明:反式氰戊菊酯和顺式氰戊菊酯在成茶中的残留水平随施药间隔天数的增加呈下降趋势,20 mL/667 m2施药剂量下,分别由施药当天2 h的9.40 mg/kg和17.51 mg/kg减小到第21天的1.07 mg/kg和1.53 mg/kg,消解幅度为88.62%和91.26%,40 mL/667 m2施药剂量下,分别由施药当天2 h的20.37 mg/kg和38.67 mg/kg减小到第21天的1.94 mg/kg和3.06 mg/kg,消解幅度为90.49%和92.09%。茶汤中氰戊菊酯含量(y)与成茶中氰戊菊酯含量(x)呈二项式函数关系,反式氰戊菊酯的函数关系为y=-0.0007x2 0.0242x,顺式氰戊菊酯的函数关系为y=-0.0002x2 0.0114x。按我国标准饮茶摄入的氰戊菊酯占每日允许摄入量的0.049%,足以达到保护人体健康水平的要求。而按欧盟的标准,饮茶摄入的氰戊菊酯占每日允许摄入量的0.0019%,即在10-5水平上,这样的风险水平已接近对非阈效应化学物质的风险控制水平(10-6)。  相似文献

A unique combination of chloroplast and ploidy chimeras is found in some Hosta Tratt. (Hostaceae) cultivars. The absence of endopolyploidy in the above–ground parts made it possible to study the fate of the apical or germ layers in all organs. Moreover, we would like to address the question of the number of apical cell layers in Hosta also to explain breeding results. Nuclear DNA content in twelve different organs of Hosta was determined by flow cytometric analysis of four chimeric cultivars with a 4-2-2 or 2-2-4 composition. The margin of the leaf, derived from the L1, can be determined separately and has a 4C amount of DNA in 4-2-2 ploidy chimeras but a 2C amount of DNA in 2-2-4 chimeras. The presence of three layers in Hosta was deduced from comparisons of the percentage of 4C nuclei in (2)-2-4 and (4)-2-2 chimeras. If Hosta organs derive only from two layers the percentage of 4C cells in the different ploidy chimeras should add up to 100%, but they do not. The absence of nuclei with a 2C amount of DNA in the roots of 2-2-4 plants shows that only the L3 participates in adventitious root formation. Gametes and consequently seedlings are mainly derived from the L2. The often found correlation between the color of the centre of the leaf and the color of the seedlings is the consequence of the way these cultivars originate. The presence of three apical layers is visualized in the tricolored leaves of Hosta cultivars like `Striptease'. The nuclear DNA amounts show unequivocally, that in all the above ground parts of Hosta the three apical layers L1, L2 and L3 are present. Relative contributions by macrophytes, epiphyton and phytoplankton to total primary production was estimated in a large (∼300 km2) widening of the St. Lawrence River (Canada), over a 2-year period with contrasting flows and water levels. Spatially-explicit estimates of whole-system production were obtained by combining field measurements with remotely sensed data and empirical models using GIS. Primary production and relative contributions of each producer type differed markedly between open-water and wetland habitats. Spatial differences within each habitat arose from interactions between physical factors including light, water depth, water transit times and wind stress. At the whole-system level, annual primary production represented 105 gC m−2 y−1, divided roughly equally among phytoplankton (34%), submerged macrophytes (27%), emergent macrophytes (23%) and epiphyton (16%). A 10% decrease in annual flows and 1-m decline in water levels between 2000 and 2001 resulted in a 50% loss of marsh habitat, a 60% increase in phytoplankton production in the open-water zone, and in the appearance of conspicuous filamentous algal mats. Low water levels induced substantial shifts in the spatial configuration and relative importance of primary producers although total river primary production remained stable between years.  相似文献

生物多样性与生态系统功能关系是生态学研究的热点之一,以往研究多关注生物多样性与单一生态系统功能之间的关系,然而生态系统能够同时提供多种功能和服务即生态系统多功能性(ecosystem multifunctionality, EMF),仅考虑单一生态系统功能会低估生物多样性的重要性。近年来,EMF研究的重要性受到更多重视,生物多样性与生态系统多功能性(biodiversity and ecosystem multifunctionality, BEMF)关系成为生态学研究新的热点。梳理近15年的研究发现,不同维度、不同尺度的单一或多营养级生物多样性均会对EMF产生显著的影响,并且在全球变化的背景下,自然干扰与人为干扰均会影响生物多样性与生态系统多功能性从而改变BEMF关系,EMF测度方法的差异也可能导致BEMF关系的不一致。生物多样性维度(尺度)选择的局限、不同EMF测度方法的认知差异、BEMF时空数据库的缺乏以及BEMF关系研究方法的单一等问题阻碍了BEMF关系的深入探究。未来研究应对现有测度方法进行深入比较并发展通用的新方法,深入探究多维度、多尺度生物多样性对EMF影响的综合作用。此...  相似文献

Polynyas are areas of open water surrounded by sea ice and are important sources of primary production in high-latitude marine ecosystems. The magnitude of annual primary production in polynyas is controlled by the amount of exposure to solar radiation and sensitivity to changes in sea-ice extent. The degree of coupling between primary production and production by upper trophic-level consumers in these environments is not well understood, which prevents reliable predictions about population trajectories for species at higher trophic levels under potential future climate scenarios. In this study, we find a strong, positive relationship between annual primary production in an Antarctic polynya and pup production by ice-dependent Weddell seals. The timing of the relationship suggests reproductive effort increases to take advantage of high primary production occurring in the months after the birth pulse. Though the proximate causal mechanism is unknown, our results indicate tight coupling between organisms at disparate trophic levels on a short timescale, deepen our understanding of marine ecosystem processes, and raise interesting questions about why such coupling exists and what implications it has for understanding high-latitude ecosystems.  相似文献

Long terminal repeat retrotransposons (LTR‐RTs) represent a major fraction of plant genomes, but processes leading to transposition bursts remain elusive. Polyploidy expectedly leads to LTR‐RT proliferation, as the merging of divergent diploids provokes a genome shock activating LTR‐RTs and/or genetic redundancy supports the accumulation of active LTR‐RTs through relaxation of selective constraints. Available evidence supports interspecific hybridization as the main trigger of genome dynamics, but few studies have addressed the consequences of intraspecific polyploidy (i.e. autopolyploidy), where the genome shock is expectedly minimized. The dynamics of LTR‐RTs was thus here evaluated through low coverage 454 sequencing of three closely related diploid progenitors and three independent autotetraploids from the young Biscutella laevigata species complex. Genomes from this early diverging Brassicaceae lineage presented a minimum of 40% repeats and a large diversity of transposable elements. Differential abundances and patterns of sequence divergence among genomes for 37 LTR‐RT families revealed contrasted dynamics during species diversification. Quiescent LTR‐RT families with limited genetic variation among genomes were distinguished from active families (37.8%) having proliferated in specific taxa. Specific families proliferated in autopolyploids only, but most transpositionally active families in polyploids were also differentiated among diploids. Low expression levels of transpositionally active LTR‐RT families in autopolyploids further supported that genome shock and redundancy are non‐mutually exclusive triggers of LTR‐RT proliferation. Although reputed stable, autopolyploid genomes show LTR‐RT fractions presenting analogies with polyploids between widely divergent genomes.  相似文献

The evolutionary stability of haploid–diploid life cycles is still controversial. Mathematical models indicate that niche differences between ploidy phases may be a necessary condition for the evolution and maintenance of these life cycles. Nevertheless, experimental support for this prediction remains elusive. In the present work, we explored this hypothesis in natural populations of the brown alga Ectocarpus. Consistent with the life cycle described in culture, Ectocarpus crouaniorum in NW France and E. siliculosus in SW Italy exhibited an alternation between haploid gametophytes and diploid sporophytes. Our field data invalidated, however, the long‐standing view of an isomorphic alternation of generations. Gametophytes and sporophytes displayed marked differences in size and, conforming to theoretical predictions, occupied different spatiotemporal niches. Gametophytes were found almost exclusively on the alga Scytosiphon lomentaria during spring whereas sporophytes were present year‐round on abiotic substrata. Paradoxically, E. siliculosus in NW France exhibited similar habitat usage despite the absence of alternation of ploidy phases. Diploid sporophytes grew both epilithically and epiphytically, and this mainly asexual population gained the same ecological advantage postulated for haploid–diploid populations. Consequently, an ecological interpretation of the niche differences between haploid and diploid individuals does not seem to satisfactorily explain the evolution of the Ectocarpus life cycle.  相似文献
