Knowledge of the spatial distribution of stored product insects may reduce the dependency on chemicals for control of these insects. Biological control, for instance, could be improved based on such knowledge. In this paper we describe the three-dimensional spatial oviposition pattern of Callosobruchus maculatus in stored cowpea. Individual C. maculatus females oviposited in clusters of 70±15 (SD) eggs. These clusters were variable in shape. In any cluster 90 to 95% of the eggs fitted into a volume of 19.1±3.5 cm3. The egg density was highest (0.6 eggs bean–1) at the center of a cluster and decreased towards the periphery. A statistically significant relationship existed between the number of eggs n in a cluster and the cluster volume, V(cm3): V=11.5+0.11n. We also investigated the spatial egg distribution of beetles which emerged from egg clusters such as those produced by individual females. Their oviposition was not confined to one specific area but was scattered throughout the bean mass. A point pattern analysis showed that the density of the `parent' cluster had no effect on the spatial egg pattern. These results give insight into the foraging environment which the egg parasitoid Uscana lariophaga, a promising candidate for biological control of C. maculatus, is facing. We argue that the probability p of encountering at least one other bean with eggs after a parasitization is a function of the number n of beans that are visited: p=1–0.42 (0.37)(n–1). 相似文献

研究图形表状和空间位置知觉任务与单纯图形形状知觉任务所诱发的ERP反应,探讨同时注意物体的两种不同特征是与仅注意其中一种特征时的ERP特性与差别。实验结果为:(1)行为数据显示,两种任务的正确率没有显著差别,但形状和空间位置知觉任务的反应时显著低于单纯形状知觉任务;(2)ERP数据显示,两种任务表现出非常相近的ERP波形特征;在大脑后部区域微弱的P1成分,非常显著的N1成分,显著的P2,N2,P3成分;在大脑前部额区显著的P2成分,并且,与单纯形状知觉任务相比,图形形状和空间位置知觉任务表现枕颞区N2波幅的显著减弱,P3潜伏期的显著缩短,额区的P2波幅的显微减弱;(3)脑电表图与分辨率断层成象(LORETA)显示,两种任务的特征波N1成分均来源于双侧的枕颞皮层,表明两种任务均涉及到与物体形状识别相关的视皮层腹侧通路,而差别波dN2成分来源于在侧枕颞区,暗示特征加工的差异主要发生在左侧枕颞区。 相似文献

参考粉纹夜蛾Trichoplusia ni 颗粒体病毒增强因子的基因序列,设计PCR引物,用PCR反应扩增出特异性产物。用EcoRⅠ、BamHⅠ双酶酶切处理PCR反应产物,然后克隆到质粒pUC19中,构建重组质粒pUC19-SF;对重组质粒pUC19-SF中的外源片段测序,结果证明PCR扩增产物是粘虫颗粒体病毒PuGV-Ps增效因子基因的一段序列。重组质粒pUC19-SF的插入片段标记为探针,通过Southern杂交将增效因子基因定位于PuGV-Ps病毒基因组的多种酶切片段上。 相似文献

The attraction of the predatory mites, Typhlodromalus manihoti and Typhlodromalus aripo, to the host plant-spider mite complex, Manihot esculenta – Mononychellus tanajoa, was investigated with a Y-tube olfactometer. Factors examined included predator starvation period, several combinations of cassava leaf biomass and initial M. tanajoa infestations, M. tanajoa-damaged leaves with mites and/or their residues removed, M. tanajoa alone, and mechanically damaged cassava leaves. We found that females of T. manihoti and T. aripo were significantly attracted to M. tanajoa-infested cassava leaves when the predators were starved for 2, 6, or 10 h. Satiated T. aripo was significantly attracted to infested cassava leaves whereas satiated T. manihoti did not discriminate between infested and non-infested leaves. When a choice was given between either two or four leaves infested with 200 female M. tanajoa and an equivalent number of non-infested leaves, 2 h-starved T. manihoti and T. aripo were significantly attracted to each of the infested groups of cassava leaves. At a density of 12 female M. tanajoa per leaf on four leaves, 2 h-starved T. manihoti was still attracted to M. tanajoa-infested leaves whereas 2 h-starved T. aripo was not attracted. When a choice was given between non-infested cassava leaves and either infested leaves from which only M. tanajoa females had been removed, or infested leaves from which all M. tanajoa and their visible products (web, feces) had been wiped off, T. aripo preferred odors from both types of previously infested leaves. Typhlodromalus manihoti was only attracted to infested leaves from which the M. tanajoa females only had been removed. Finally, the two predators were not attracted to 400 female M. tanajoa on clean cotton wool or to mechanically wounded leaves. This supports the hypothesis that M. tanajoa damage induces volatile cues in cassava leaves that attract T. manihoti and T. aripo to M. tanajoa-infested leaves. 相似文献

Genet. 2044 (2001) 2060], the Nearest Neighbour Algorithm (NNA) was developed for predicting the protein subcellular location. Alkaline D-peptidase (Adp) from Bacillus cereus DF4-B is a D-stereospecific endopeptidase acting on oligopeptides composed of D-phenylalanine and the primary structure deduced from its gene, adp, shows a similarity with D-stereospecific hydrolases from Ochrobactrum anthropi strains. We have isolated DNA fragments covering the flanking region of adp from DF4-B genome and found an additional gene, adp2, located upstream of adp. The deduced amino acid sequence of Adp2 showed 96% and 85% identity with those of Adp from B. cereus strains AH559 and DF4-B, respectively. The recombinant Adp2 expressed in Escherichia coli was purified to homogeneity and characterized. It had hydrolyzing activity toward (D-Phe)3, (D-Phe)4, and (D-Phe)6 but did not act on (L-Phe)4, D-Phe-NH2, and L-Phe-NH2, some characteristics that are closely related to those of Adp from strain DF4-B. These results indicate that highly homologous genes encoding D-stereospecific endopeptidases are arranged in a tandem manner on the genomic DNA of B. cereus DF4-B. 相似文献

Research on the cell and molecular biology of proteins involved in membrane traffic often requires determination of the effects of various experimental conditions on the subcellular distributions of those proteins. This is most often accomplished by acquiring fluorescence microscope images and visually comparing these images. While this approach is quite suitable for detecting major changes in distributions, it is not sensitive to small changes and does not permit a quantitative and objective analysis. We therefore describe the application of pattern analysis methods to the comparison of sets of fluorescence microscope images. This approach provides a high throughput and reproducible technique to determine whether image distributions differ within a specified statistical confidence, and is shown to resolve image sets indistinguishable by visual inspection. 相似文献
