To evaluate the threat that anthropogenic substances pose to animals when they are emitted into the environment, tests like the invertebrate embryo toxicity test with the ramshorn snail Marisa cornuarietis have been developed. These tests are used to investigate substances like the heavy metal platinum (Pt) that is used in catalytic converters and is gradually released in car exhausts. In 2010, our group reported that high Pt concentrations cause body plan alterations in snails and prevent the formation of an external shell during M. cornuarietis embryogenesis. Now, this study presents scanning‐electron micrographs and histological sections of platinum2+ (Pt2+)‐treated and untreated M. cornuarietis embryos and compares “normally” developing and “shell‐less” embryos during embryogenesis, to reveal the exact course of events that lead to this body plan shift. Both groups showed similar development until the onset of torsion 70‐ to 82‐h postfertilization. In the Pt2+‐exposed embryos, the rudimentary shell gland (=anlage of both shell gland and mantle, which usually evaginates, grows, and eventually covers the visceral sac) does not spread across the visceral sac but remains on its ventral side. Without the excessive growth of the shell gland, a horizontal rotation of the visceral sac relative to head and foot does not occur, as being normal during the process of torsion. J. Criteria are established for defining the presence of protegula formed on embryonic or larval mantle in representative genera of Lower Palaeozoic Obolellata, Strophomenata and Rhynchonellata. Width was used to define protegular type. Taxa with only an embryonic protegulum are inferred to have had lecithotrophic larvae while taxa with a larval protegulum or an embryonic protegulum surrounded by a larval protegulum are inferred to have had planktotrophic larvae. All or most of the taxa examined in the Obolellata, the Strophomenata and the orders Protorothida and Orthida in the Rhynchonellata had planktotrophic larvae. In the Pentamerida a minority of genera had only a larval, or an embryonic and a larval protegulum while a majority had protegular widths indicating lecithotrophy. In the orders Rhynchonellida, Atrypida, Athyrida and Spiriferida derived from the Pentamerida (with the exception of one species in the Atrypida) a number of the genera had protegular widths indicating lecithotrophy. It is suggested that the onset of lecithotrophy in the Pentamerida was associated with a developmental innovation in which the mantle lobe of the larva was reflected over the apical lobe during the process of metamorphosis. Distribution of an acid phosphatase, AcPase I, from pearl oyster (Pinctada fucata) in different tissues was investigated via enzyme activity determination and immunohistochemistry. Positive reactions were
observed in sections of digestive gland, base of gill filaments, and epithelia of the outer side of the middle fold and the
inner side of the outer fold, which indicated AcPase I might participate in processes besides immune defense, such as calcium
metabolism or shell formation. Its effects on CaCO3 crystal formation were studied in vitro. Results revealed that AcPase I inhibited CaCO3 precipitation in a dose-dependent manner and had no affinity for calcium. CaCO3 crystals induced by AcPase I exhibited a cluster needle-like morphology, which proved to be aragonite. The morphology and
size of the aragonites varied with different concentrations of AcPase I. Our observations described here may provide important

Navicula mutica (Kütz.) var. mutica was isolated from the air, cloned on agar, cultured in soil-water bottle, and studied with transmission and scanning electron micros-ropy. The frustules were lanceolate to ovoid with rounded apices, with the apical axis 8.5 ± 3.2 μ and the trans-apical and the transapical axis 3.6 ± 0.6 μm. Striae were composed of two or three puncta, and the mantle bore a single row of puncta aligned with the striae. The ends of the raphe turned away from an isolated punctual in the central area of the valve. The mantle puncta and one or two of the valve-face puncta in each stria opened into a series of transapical grooves in the interior of the valve, the grooves contributing to the appearance of striae in the light microscope. The interior of the mantle also possessed a pair of longitudinal grooves, discontinuous at the apices of the valves. An undulate advalvar margin of the valvocopula likely articulates along the interior longitudinal groove of the mantle. The projections of the undulate margin are perhaps positioned between the transapical grooves and along the longitudinal groove between the dentiform structures formed by the intersection of the double-grooved system. Summary For examination and recognition of mycorrhizal types, the structure of the hyphal mantle in tangential longitudinal sections has proved to be a valuable feature for investigation. Features of hyphal mantle structure have been used for establishing an identification key. The colour of the hyphal mantle is a helpful additional characteristic, but is not useful as a diagnostic feature because of variations in advanced age and under varying environmental conditions. Rhizomorphs yield good taxonomic characteristics. The Hartig net was uniform for all types examined. When differences were observed they had to be interpreted as different stages of development. Ultrastructural examination revealed further features of mycorrhizal types: namely the shape of septal pores, presence and structure of matrix material in the region of the hyphal mantle and characteristic deposits on cell walls of the hyphae. The ten types presented can be distinguished without any ultrastructural features. As far as the fungal partners involved are concerned, basidiomycetes are clearly dominant. For the first time two basidiomycetes with continuous parenthesomes of their dolipores were found to form ectomycorrhizae. Classification of these fungi with the heterobasidiomycetes is discussed. 相似文献

The morphology and anatomy of ectomycorrhizas of Rhizopogon arctostaphyli , R. ellenae , R. flavofibrillosus , R. occidentalis , R. rubescens , R. smithii , R. subcaerulescens and R. truncatus synthesized on Ponderosa pine ( Pinus ponderosa ) in glasshouse conditions using spore slurries, are described and compared. All species produced a well-developed Hartig net, and a well-developed fungal mantle. The mantles of R. arctostaphyli , R. smithii and R. subcaerulescens ectomycorrhizas were two-layered with outer mantle hyphae of wider diameter than inner mantle hyphae. The mantle of R. subcaerulescens ectomycorrhizas also had distinctive peg-like structures (cystidia) along peripheral hyphae. Rhizopogon truncatus ectomycorrhizas were tuberculate in morphology and had a rind-like mantle enclosing adjacent roots. In addition, several species exhibited crystal inclusions in the outer mantle, presumably at the interface between mantle and soil. 相似文献

Cancer initiation and progression have been associated with dysregulated long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression. However, the lncRNA expression profile in aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) has not been comprehensively characterized. This systematic review aims to evaluate the role of lncRNAs as a biomarker to investigate their future potential in the diagnosis, real-time measurement of response to therapy and prognosis in aggressive B-cell NHL. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Scopus databases using the keywords “long non-coding RNA”, “Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma”, “Burkitt's lymphoma” and “Mantle cell lymphoma”. We included studies on human subjects that measured the level of lncRNAs in samples from patients with aggressive B-cell NHL. We screened 608 papers, and 51 papers were included. The most studied aggressive B-cell NHL was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). At least 79 lncRNAs were involved in the pathogenesis of aggressive B-cell NHL. Targeting lncRNAs could affect cell proliferation, viability, apoptosis, migration and invasion in aggressive B-cell NHL cell lines. Dysregulation of lncRNAs had prognostic (e.g. overall survival) and diagnostic values in patients with DLBCL, Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), or mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Furthermore, dysregulation of lncRNAs was associated with response to treatments, such as CHOP-like chemotherapy regimens, in these patients. LncRNAs could be promising biomarkers for the diagnosis, prognosis and response to therapy in patients with aggressive B-cell NHL. We have earlier reported overexpression of the central and peripheral cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), a B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In this study, treatment with cannabinoid receptor ligands caused a decrease in viability of MCL cells, while control cells lacking CB1 were not affected. Interestingly, equipotent doses of the CB1 antagonist SR141716A and the CB1/CB2 agonist anandamide inflicted additive negative effects on viability. Moreover, treatment with the CB1/CB2 agonist Win-55,212-2 caused a decrease in long-term growth of MCL cells in culture. Induction of apoptosis, as measured by FACS/Annexin V-FITC, contributed to the growth suppressive effect of Win-55,212-2. Our data suggest that cannabinoid receptors may be considered as potential therapeutic targets in MCL. 相似文献
