This review describes the large group of morphogenetic processes designated as search migrations. Search migrations typically include two stages: i) search, when a group of cells or of the cytoplasmic processes migrate over the cell-free spaces, and ii) choice, the stage when migrating cells reach specific loci where they stop and undergo specific differentiations induced by local factors such as cell-cell contacts and humoral agents. Migrating cells that do not meet their targets usually undergo apoptosis. Numerous examples of search migrations range from gastrulation to formation of axon-muscle connections. Critical stages of carcinogenesis such as acquisition of cell ability for invasion may be regarded as the genetic aberration of normal search migration: cancer cells perform an endless search but cannot make final choice.  相似文献

Cyanide is an apoptosis inducer in stoma guard cells from pea leaf epidermis. Unlike CN-, the uncoupler of oxidative and photosynthetic phosphorylation carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP), the combination of CCCP, 3-(3 ,4 -dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU), benzylhydroxamate (BH), myxothiazol, antimycin A, and a glycolysis inhibitor 2-deoxyglucose (DG) did not induce destruction of guard cell nuclei for 20 h of incubation of epidermal peels in the light. DCMU prevented the effect of CN- as a programmed cell death (PCD) inducer. CCCP, the combination of DCMU and CCCP, or the combination of DCMU, CCCP, BH, myxothiazol, antimycin A, and DG supplemented by CN- caused destruction of cell nuclei; the number of the cells lacking nuclei in this case was higher than with CN- alone. DG and CCCP caused cell destruction after longer incubation of the isolated epidermis - after 2 days and to a greater degree after 4 days. The effect of DG and CCCP was reduced by illumination. Cell destruction during long-term incubation was prevented by the combination of DG and CCCP. From data of electron microscopy, DCMU and dinitrophenyl ester of iodonitrothymol (DNP-INT) prevented apoptotic changes of the nuclear ultrastructure induced by CN-. The suppression of the destruction of the guard cell nuclei under combined action of DG and CCCP was apparently caused by switching of cell death from PCD to necrosis. Thus, the type of cell death - via apoptosis or necrosis - is controlled by the level of energy provision.  相似文献

The wide distribution of polyploidy among plants has led to a variety of theories for the evolutionary advantages of polyploidy. Here we claim that the abundance of polyploidy may be the result of a simple ratcheting process that does not require evolutionary advantages due to the biological properties of organisms. The evolution of polyploidy is a one-way process in which chromosome number can increase but not decrease. Using a simple mathematical model, we show that average ploidal level within a plant lineage can continually increase to the levels observed today, even if there are ecological or physiological disadvantages to higher ploidy. The model allowed us to estimate the average net speciation and polyploidy rates for ten angiosperm genera. Based on these estimates, the model predicts distributions of ploidal levels statistically similar to those observed in nine of the 10 genera.  相似文献

Host plants exhibiting insect resistance traits have long been known to influence within‐plant distributions of pests and their natural enemies. Sites and timing of egg deposition are particularly important for synchrony of predators and their prey in the field. Temporal and spatial distribution of eggs of the cotton bollworms [Heliothis virescens (F.) and Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)] and that of the predators Geocoris punctipes (Say) (Heteroptera: Geocoridae), Chrysoperla rufilabris (Burmeister) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae), and Micromus spec. (Neuroptera: Hemerobiidae) were determined during three cotton seasons, from 2002 to 2004, by collecting and examining plants throughout each season. Comparisons also were made between Bt and non‐Bt cotton to investigate possible changes in oviposition behavior on Bt cotton. The study was conducted in commercial fields with insecticide use to manage pests when economic thresholds were exceeded in both cotton types. Egg densities for predators and bollworms varied among years, but were similar on Bt and non‐Bt cottons. Oviposition of bollworms and G. punctipes correlated spatially within plants, with most eggs laid on structures in the top five nodes of cotton plants and on the three outermost leaves on lateral branches regardless of cotton type. Bollworm oviposition dynamics exhibited two peaks within the season (early July and early August). Eggs of all predators and bollworms collected from the field and incubated in the laboratory had high hatching rates throughout each season (74–100%). Temporal association of predator with bollworm oviposition showed a significant correlation with green lacewings, a delay of 10 days for big‐eyed bugs, and no correlation with brown lacewings. Furthermore, Bt cotton plants exerted no significant effect on temporal or spatial patterns of oviposition of bollworms or the predators, indicating no change in oviposition behavior of bollworm females within plant structures after almost one decade of widespread planting of Bt cotton.  相似文献

Until recently, only a small number of standardized (mainly acute) tests with earthworms and plants were available for terrestrial risk assessment. However, during the last years various new methods (especially with chronic endpoints such as reproduction) were developed and standardized. Moreover, beyond structural aspects (e.g., the effect on individuals), the question of influences of chemicals on ecological soil functions like litter decomposition has been raised. Later, biological test methods were used in the area of Soil Quality Assessment, where an often unknown and complex contamination of a site-specific field soil has to be evaluated. Due to the variety of soils to be tested, the existing methods had to be adapted. This article briefly summarizes basic principles of method standardization before providing an overview of existing standardized tests for the compartment soil (mainly from Europe), focusing on zoological, plant, and functional methods. After presenting the main features of already standardized tests (in particular those used in soil quality assessment so far) the development of new tests for specific purposes, ideas for a battery of tests and a new, community-based approach assessing the biological quality of field soils are discussed.  相似文献

The potential of two plant species, Phragmites australis (common reed) and Typha latifolia (cattail), in the phytoremediation process of selenium (Se) was studied in subsurface-flow constructed wetland (SSF). Se was supplemented continuously at a concentration of 100 microg Se L(-1) in the inlet of the cultivation beds of the SSF. Water samples collected from the outlet of the Phragmites bed after 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 wk of treatments showed that Se content was under detectable limits. Water samples collected from the Typha bed at the same five periods showed that Se concentrations in the outlet were 55, 47, 65, 76, and 25 microg/L, respectively. The results of bioaccumulation in the biomass of both species after 12 wk of treatment indicated that Typha plants accumulated Se mainly in fine roots. Phragmites accumulated Se mainly in leaves and rhizomes, and moderate levels were found in stems and fine organic materials. The results indicate that common reed is a very good species for Se phytoextraction and phytostabilization (immobilization) and that cattail is only a phytostabilization species. The use of common reed and cattail for Se phytoremediation in a SSF system and in constructed wetland models are discussed.  相似文献

选择宁南山区9种典型植物的根际与非根际土壤为研究对象,采用Biolog方法对土壤微生物功能多样性进行了研究。结果表明:9种不同植物根际土壤与非根际土壤的微生物活性(AWCD)、微生物多样性指数和微生物均匀度指数均存在明显差异;除冰草外,其他各种植物的根际土壤的微生物活性AWCD、微生物多样性指数和微生物均匀度指数均比非根际土壤的高;9种典型植物根际土壤微生物主要碳源利用类型是羧酸类和氨基酸类,非根际土壤微生物主要碳源利用类型是羧酸类、胺类、氨基酸类;微生物活性、微生物多样性指数和微生物均匀度指数两两之间均达到了极显著相关,与土壤化学性质各指标之间均未达到显著相关水平。  相似文献
