The long-eared owl is a nocturnal predator which winters communally and breeds in the same areas in loose colonies during the spring. We tested the hypothesis that roosts, particularly stable roosts, are formed by close relatives, a condition under which group-related behaviours such as information sharing or helping at nest are more likely to be developed. DNA fingerprinting analysis was used to examine genetic similarity within and between two long-eared owl populations, one wintering in a traditional roost and the other in an unstable roost, and both breeding around their roosting sites. Although genetic similarity within roosts was higher than that between roosts, the difference was not significant. Observed genetic similarity within roosts was smaller than that reported in the bird species whose roosts work as information centres. On the other hand, the presence of some closely related individuals in the roost and behavioural observations suggest that co-operation between kin might have occurred, at least in one of the two study sites.  相似文献

在大兴安岭阿龙山林业局的一个集水区,通过样地法(96个样地),调查了大量的火疤木,研究了景观水平上的火状况。结果表明,由1825至1993年间样区共发生14次火灾,火烧种类主要是地表火,但也有少量树冠火;火烧强度主要为弱度火;火场面积通常很大;火烧平均间隔期为37a,火烧轮回期的约30a。这些指标对大于大兴安岭北部林区有一定的代表意义。大兴安岭北部林区的火状况主要决定于兴安落叶松的抗火特性和森林群  相似文献

We examined macroinvertebrate communities in small(0.1-1.0 m2) pools of intermittent streams (alwayscontainingsome water but without perennial flow) with small watersheds(2-6 ha) subjected to five types of forest harvest to assesspotential impacts of the different harvest methods. Bufferstrips10 m wide were left on each side of the streams. Each harvesttreatment was coupled with a similar unharvested referencestand.An incomplete block design included three 0.05 m2 vacuumsamples from each treatment paired with three from theadjacentreferences. There was a high degree of similarity amongreferencesfor parameters other than taxonomic composition (e.g.macroinvertebrate density, number of species, Shannondiversity,functional groups, etc.). Statistically significantdifferenceswere found between references and treatments and among harvestmethods but the responses varied among response variables(density,Shannon-Weiner diversity, species composition), differentspeciesassemblages (all invertebrates, chironomids,Ephemeroptera-Plecoptera-Trichoptera [EPT], isopods), andfunctional group categories (shredders, collector-gatherers).Wecollected 56 taxa, 7–16 per site, with low communitysimilarity(mean Jaccards=0.18, mean Bray-Curtis percentdissimilarity=81). The need for rigorous methods of interpreting indirect site ordinations is discussed and the problem of oblique habitat and phytosociological trends is emphasized. A sequential approach, termed integrated interpretation, is introduced to overcome this problem. It first involves a technique termed rotational correlation a linear form of trend surface analysis, which locates the best fit between a habitat variable and the coordinates of a pluridimensional ordination. The coordinates at positions of best fit are then used to produce two-way site-species tables (seriation arrays) which summarize floristic variation in relation to each major habitat trend. The seriation arrays can also be used to identify groups of differential species. Integrated interpretation is demonstrated using semi-arid vegetation from Murcia Province, SE Spain. A two-axis site ordination of vegetation data by non-metric multidimensional scaling is shown to have two oblique trends related to aspect-induced topoclimates and types of past anthropogenic disturbance. Rotation of the configuration to maximum linear correlation achieves very high levels of explanation for each factor. Rotated ordination coordinates from the correlation analysis are used to obtain two seriation arrays and floristic noda which relate directly to the two underlying habitat trends. A floristic discontinuity is revealed on the topoclimate continuum and it is hypothesized that temperature conditions are a major determinant of floristic composition, but that moisture partly determines vegetational cover and phytomass. Several patterns of past cultivation are detected and associated with five main kinds of geomorphological unit, together with some evidence that the rate of succession is partly determined by topoclimate. The integrated approach to interpretation is compared with visual methods and other multivariate techniques. A case is made for increased interpretational rigour in site coordinate studies, especially the discontinuation of trend-seeking using individual unrotated ordination axes.Nomenclature of vascular plants follows Tutin et al. Summary Effects of human influences on the vegetation of the Western Himalaya have been reviewed. Impacts of forest management practices, over-grazing, surface mining, defence and development operations, and road building activities, are severe in the region. This has created an alarming situation for soil and water conservation. Increased soil loss and runoff pose a threat to various reservoirs built for various uses and have increased hazards of erosion and floods in the Indus and Ganga basin regions.Nomenclature follows Hooker (1872–1897) and Gupta (1968).  相似文献

Laboratory microcosm experiments tested the intermediate disturbance hypothesis, which states that the highest level of diversity (e.g. species diversity) will be maintained at intermediate scales of disturbance. The effects of disturbance on the maintenance of clonal diversity and on competitive interactions among clones of the obligately parthenogenetic freshwater cladoceran, Daphnia pulex were examined. No significant effect of disturbance size (i.e. dilution volume) on clonal diversity was noted. However, frequency of disturbance had a pronounced effect on clonal diversity, with the highest clonal diversity maintained at low to intermediate disturbance frequencies. Competitive hierarchies among clones were often invariant within a given experiment. Generally, one or two clones dominated, with several less abundant clones persisting throughout an experiment. Results suggest that low to intermediate disturbances could be important in the maintenance of genetic variation in natural populations (i.e. through pre-emption of competitive exclusion between genotypes). This could have a direct bearing on the maintenance of both intra- and interspecific diversity.  相似文献

Comparisons of benthic invertebrates between riffles and pools   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
Benthic species assemblages in upstream and downstream ends of riffles and in pools were investigated seasonally in the first five orders of an alluvial gravel stream with distinct pool and riffle channel form. Riffles comprised < 10% of stream area and were separated by pools with extensive bedrock substrate (ca. 15–85% of total surface area) which was scoured during periodic high flow. Virtually all taxa were more abundant in riffles than in pools, except chironomids which were more equally distributed. Inconsistent results were obtained for upstream-downstream comparisons within riffles. Intermittent headwater reaches (orders 1 & 2) which supported half as many taxa retained this pattern during periods of flow, although riffles at these sites were dry from mid-June to mid-November. Pools which contained more gravel, indicating less disturbance during high flow, had a richer assemblage of benthic species than other pools. Many invertebrates in pools may have been there as a result of drift from their preferred riffle habitats, but the presence of gravel in the pools indicates less intense flow disturbance during floods, provides protection from the mild scouring that does occur during floods, and provides refugia from predators.  相似文献

We investigated recolonization by insects of a small headwater stream in the southern Appalachian Mountains that was treated along its entire length with an insecticide (methoxychlor). Initial treatment (December 1985) resulted in massive insect drift. Applications continued seasonally for three years, and drift was measured during each treatment. Taxonomic composition of the drift indicated several responses: (1) Some taxa were eliminated. (2) A number of taxa occurred only sporadically following initial treatment. (3) Early instars for some taxa showed seasonal occurrences which closely paralleled known life cycles and flight periods of adults. Groups which provided strong evidence for aerial recolonization included several Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera (Peltoperlidae and Isoperla spp.), and Trichoptera (Parapsyche cardis, Diplectrona modesta, Pycnopsyche spp., and Lepidostoma spp.). (4) Some long-lived taxa survived and exhibited distinct growth through several treatment periods. These include Odonata (Lanthus and Cordulegaster), some Ephemeroptera, and some Diptera (Tipulidae, Ceratopogonidae, and Tanypodinae). (5) Some taxa which were not present at the time of initial treatment appeared during the experiment. Chironomidae dominated the drift in all samples, and the number of genera did not decrease during the three-year treatment period. Of the 27 chironomid genera identified, only Micropsectra decreased in proportional abundance during treatment. In contrast, several genera (Corynoneura, Meropelopia, Parametriocnemus, and Tvetnia) showed little change in relative abundance. Larsia (Tanypodinae) increased in proportional abundance during the treatment period.  相似文献

本文报告,在1989年4月至1991年3月,为考察长江仔鳗资源的开发利用,对仔鳗生态失调死亡率及其防治方法做了一些研究。结果表明,仔鳗溯河性生态失调死亡率为49.8%(可信限为46.3~53.3%);寒冷性生态失调死亡率为48.59%(可信限为43.5~53.5%)。在实验中,应用肝浆(含B族维生素),在早期喂给仔鳗治疗有效(u=2.17>1.96,p<0.05);含抗生素食物喂给无显著性效果。应用由鳗鲡成鱼和黑斑泥鳅体内分离的肠微球菌、贝内克菌和非O-I群弧菌,喂给仔鳗进行肠道微生态系重调整(readjutment of intestinal microecosystem),对提高仔鳗生理功能适应性和降低生态失调死亡率有满意效果(u=2.84>2.58,p<0.01)。  相似文献

The stomach contents were analyzed monthly for each year-class to elucidate the foraging pattern of bluegills in a small vegetated lake by the frequency occurrence and the points methods. Seasonal dietary changes of the year-classes were considered comparing the monthly fluctuations in abundance of major prey organisms. Though these bluegills are dietary generalists and opportunists like those in North America, their foraging pattern was characterized by a relatively clearer dietary shift during ontogeny and a wider food niche including piscivorous than those of bluegills with congeners in their home land. Therefore this finding provides evidence of the ecological release caused by the absence of congeners.  相似文献
