A mathematical model is developed to study the human thorax and pelvis movements in the frontal plane during normal walking. The model comprises of two-link base-excited inverted pendulums with one-degree of rotational freedom for each link. Since the linear motion of the pelvis has a significant effect on the upper body stability, this effect is included in the model by having a base point moving in the frontal plane in a general way. Furthermore, because the postural stability is the primary requirement of normal human walking, the control law is developed based on Lyapunov's stability theory, which guarantees the stability of the pendulum system around the up-right position. To evaluate the model, the simulation results, including the angular displacement of each link and the torque applied on each link, are compared with those from gait measurements. It is shown that the simulation results match those from gait measurements closely. These results suggest that the proposed model can provide a useful framework for analysis of postural control mechanisms.  相似文献

The kinetic granular temperatures of a binary granular mixture in simple shear flow are calculated by means of the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method. The results show that the temperature ratio is clearly different from unity (as may be expected since the system is out of equilibrium) and strongly depends on the restitution coefficients as well as on the parameters of the mixture. The influence of the temperature differences on the rheological properties is also discussed. The results are compared with the theoretical predictions obtained from the Boltzmann kinetic theory by using a Sonine polynomial expansion. The comparison shows an excellent agreement over the range of parameters investigated.  相似文献

Establishing the conditions for effective intergroup peacemaking is a formidable task in severe ethnic conflicts. Conflict resolution practitioners argue that a critical first step is developing preconditions which convince competing groups that there are opponents to whom it is worth talking, that it is possible to create structural changes conducive to a stable peace, and that an agreement is possible which can meet each side's basic concerns and needs. This article compares six theories of practice of ethnic conflict resolution: community relations, principled negotiation; human needs; psychoanalytically rooted identity; intercultural miscommunications and conflict transformation, examining how each understands ethnic conflict; the goals it articulates; the effects of good practice on participants in interventions; the mechanisms by which the project achieves its impact; and the dynamics of transfer affecting the course of a wider conflict. It is argued that clearer articulation of these assumptions will improve both theory and practice in the search for settlements to severe ethnic conflict.  相似文献

The powerful technique of energy diagrams has been used to analyze the mechanism for proton pumping in cytochrome c oxidase. Energy levels and barriers are derived starting out from recent kinetic experiments for the O to E transition, and are then refined using general criteria and a few additional experimental facts. Both allowed and non-allowed pathways are obtained in this way. A useful requirement is that the forward and backward rate should approach each other for the full membrane gradient. A key finding is that an electron on heme a (or the binuclear center) must have a significant lowering effect on the barrier for proton uptake, in order to prevent backflow from the pump-site to the N-side. While there is no structural gating in the present mechanism, there is thus an electronic gating provided by the electron on heme a. A quantitative analysis of the energy levels in the diagrams, leads to Prop-A of heme a3 as the most likely position for the pump-site, and the Glu278 region as the place for the transition state for proton uptake. Variations of key redox potentials and pKa values during the pumping process are derived for comparison to experiments.  相似文献

中药现代化的任务是对当代药物学家的挑战.中药现代化的目标、方法尚无统一的认识.吴凤锷在1989年就提出了中药现代化的方法.随着时间的推移,这一设想已被一些药物学家所认可,并开始了这方面的研究工作.通过多年的思索,对中药现代化的理论依据进行了研究,认为:(1)中药疗效是针对生药而言,即针对多种成分的结合疗效.(2)中药的多种成分特别适合于老年性多种慢性并发症的治疗.(3)中药的安全性是由于多成分、所含各成分相对剂量低的原因.(4)中药的个体针对性强,同病异治,或异病同治.(5)中药服用后进入人体的代谢过程不同于西药,对消化道中菌群产生影响,从而影响人体的生理功能.(6)中药既含有蛋白质、微量元素等功能性营养成分,又含有生物碱、黄酮等药物成分,本质上处于西药与食品之间.由于传统中药有以上特点,故中药的现代化必须保持这些特点.最好的方法就是作者所提出的用单方成药代替生药的方法.从现状看,这一方法既有理论依据,在技术上又是可行的.符合中医的传统理论及中草药的特点.  相似文献

The title of this essay sets its dialogic structure. Ronald Berndt's writing at times obscured the core insights that he had about Yolngu society, and partly as a consequence Australian anthropology has not yet made the best use of the immense richness of his ethnographic legacy. In retrospect, in many areas of their research the Berndts were pioneers addressing themes and topics that had been for too long ignored. They opened up new fields of study and redressed some of the imbalances associated with functionalism, the dominant paradigm of their early years as anthropologists. In this essay I examine two areas of Ronald Berndt's writings in which he had insights that were not fully appreciated at the time: the analysis of Yolngu social organisation and the analysis of Yolngu sexual symbolism. In both cases, his absorption in Yolngu ethnography made him aware that his predecessors had overlooked important themes of Yolngu society, yet in both cases his analysis was less convincing than it might have been.  相似文献

The general tendency for species number (S) to increase with sampled area (A) constitutes one of the most robust empirical laws of ecology, quantified by species–area relationships (SAR). In many ecosystems, SAR curves display a power-law dependence, SAz. The exponent z is always less than one but shows significant variation in different ecosystems. We study the multitype voter model as one of the simplest models able to reproduce SAR similar to those observed in real ecosystems in terms of basic ecological processes such as birth, dispersal and speciation. Within the model, the species–area exponent z depends on the dimensionless speciation rate ν, even though the detailed dependence is still matter of controversy. We present extensive numerical simulations in a broad range of speciation rates from ν=10-3 down to ν=10-11, where the model reproduces values of the exponent observed in nature. In particular, we show that the inverse of the species–area exponent linearly depends on the logarithm of ν. Further, we compare the model outcomes with field data collected from previous studies, for which we separate the effect of the speciation rate from that of the different species lifespans. We find a good linear relationship between inverse exponents and logarithm of species lifespans. However, the slope sets bounds on the speciation rates that can hardly be justified on evolutionary basis, suggesting that additional effects should be taken into account to consistently interpret the observed exponents.  相似文献

How many generations ago did the common ancestor of all present-day individuals live, and how does inbreeding affect this estimate? The number of ancestors within family trees determines the timing of the most recent common ancestor of humanity. However, mating is often non-random and inbreeding is ubiquitous in natural populations. Rates of pedigree growth are found for multiple types of inbreeding. This data is then combined with models of global population structure to estimate biparental coalescence times. When pedigrees for regular systems of mating are constructed, the growth rates of inbred populations contain Fibonacci n-step constants. The timing of the most recent common ancestor depends on global population structure, the mean rate of pedigree growth, mean fitness, and current population size. Inbreeding reduces the number of ancestors in a pedigree, pushing back global common ancestry times. These results are consistent with the remarkable findings of previous studies: all humanity shares common ancestry in the recent past.  相似文献

Metabolic Engineering aims to improve the performance of biotechnological processes through rational manipulation rather than random mutagenesis of the organisms involved. Such a strategy can only succeed when a mathematical model of the target process is available. Simplifying assumptions are often needed to cope with the complexity of such models in an efficient way, and the choice of such assumptions often leads to models that fall within a certain structural template or formalism. The most popular formalisms can be grouped in two categories: power-law and linear-logarithmic. As optimization and analysis of a model strongly depends on its structure, most methods in Metabolic Engineering have been defined within a given formalism and never used in any other.In this work, the four most commonly used formalisms (two power-law and two linear-logarithmic) are placed in a common framework defined within Biochemical Systems Theory. This framework defines every model as matrix equations in terms of the same parameters, enabling the formulation of a common steady state analysis and providing means for translating models and methods from one formalism to another. Several Metabolic Engineering methods are analysed here and shown to be variants of a single equation. Particularly, two problem solving philosophies are compared: the application of the design equation and the solution of constrained optimization problems. Generalizing the design equation to all the formalisms shows it to be interchangeable with the direct solution of the rate law in matrix form. Furthermore, optimization approaches are concluded to be preferable since they speed the exploration of the feasible space, implement a better specification of the problem and exclude unrealistic results.Beyond consolidating existing knowledge and enabling comparison, the systematic approach adopted here can fill the gaps between the different methods and combine their strengths.  相似文献
