Field observations and inoculation experiments revealed that spermogonia and aecia produced on systemically infected plants of Galium aparine and uredinia and telia on Carex maackii are different stages of the life cycle of a Puccinia fungus. By comparative morphology with allied species, the fungus was concluded to be a new species and named as Puccinia galiiuniversa.  相似文献

Ochropsora ariae was found to host-alternate between Anemone pseudo-altaica and Aruncus dioicus var. tenuifolius and Ochropsora nambuana between Anemone flaccida and Elaeagnus multiflora var. hortensis in Japan. Both species produced a sessile, thin-walled, cylindrical probasidium (teliospore), which turned into a four-celled metabasidium by continuous apical elongation of the probasidium. Several probasidia of O. nambuana were produced from a basal basidiogenous cell in a sorus hymenium. Life cycle and probasidium/metabasidium morphology showed the taxonomic identity of Ceraceopsora elaeagni with O. nambuana. Developmental morphology of the basidium found in the two Ochropsora species raised a question against the taxonomic separation of Ochropsora and Aplopsora.  相似文献

Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) is one of the worst weeds in temperate areas of the world. A rust fungus, Puccinia punctiformis, was first proposed as a biological control agent for C. arvense in 1893. The rust causes systemic disease which ultimately kills C. arvense plants. In 2013 it was demonstrated in four countries, that inoculation of C. arvense rosettes in the fall with ground telia-bearing leaves can initiate epidemics of systemic rust disease with an average of 28% of inoculated rosettes producing a systemically diseased shoot the following spring. Other rosettes that emerged near inoculation points in spring were stunted and appeared diseased. To determine whether other rosettes were diseased, a chemiluminescence western slot blot test, applying polyclonal antibodies raised against P. punctiformis antigens, was developed to detect the fungus in roots. Rosettes were inoculated with telia-bearing leaves in the fall in Maryland, USA and Veroia, Greece. Roots of asymptomatic rosettes that emerged adjacent to inoculation points the following spring were tested for the presence of the fungus with the slot blot test. Rosettes that had diseased shoots were recorded. Based on the slot blot tests, 50–60% of the asymptomatic rosettes adjacent to inoculation points were positive for presence of the rust and likely to be systemically diseased. To demonstrate that systemic disease leads to C. arvense decline, C. arvense shoot densities were measured annually at 10 sites, in three countries, that had been inoculated with telia-bearing leaves in the fall between 2008 and 2012. Changes in C. arvense shoot densities over time were calculated. Average reductions in C. arvense density across the 10 sites were 43.1 ± 10.0% at 18 months after inoculation, 63.8 ± 8.0% at 30 months after inoculation, and 80.9 ± 16.5% at 42 months after inoculation, and 72.9 ± 27.2% at 54 months after inoculation; the 54 month reduction was, however, based on only two sites.  相似文献

MeOH and water extracts were obtained from 16 species of infected leaves with rust fungi belonging to 18 species in 6 families: Pucciniaceae, Melampsoraceae, Coleosporiaceae, Pileolariaceae, Phragmidiaceae, and Phakopsoraceae. All the extracts of rust-infected plants with telia showed the teliospore-inducing activity for wheat leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici).  相似文献

During the summer of 2002, symptoms of rust disease were observed for the first time on Phragmites australis in Saudi Arabia. Light brown lesions of regular shape indicating uredinia of Puccinia isiacae appeared on the leaves. The morphology and characteristics of the fungus were described in detail with both light and scanning electron microscopy. The possibility of using this fungus as a biological control agent was also discussed.  相似文献

Mycelium of Puccinia graminis was grown for 4 d on 200 mM D-[U-14C]glucose followed by a cold chase for 30 h. Analysis of cellular metabolites during the chase indicated significant turnover only in carbohydrates soluble in 80% (w/v) ethanol. A kinetic analysis of the depletion of [14C] in pools of free sugars and sugar alcohols indicated that the trehalose pools and a small proportion (12–16%) of the mannitol and glucitol pools did not turn over, whilst pools of glucose, fructose, and the remainder of the hexitols became totally,depleted of label during the chase. Because the [14C] was totally lost from the pools of glucose and fructose prior to the hexitols, it was deduced that both of these hexoses were precursors of the hexitols. Estimation of the carbon fluxes through pools indicated that 52, 36 and 16% of the carbon from glucose was assimilated via glucitol, fructose and mannitol respectively, demonstrating that glucitol could not have originated from fructose as sole precursor. After offering D-[U-14C]glucitol, [14C] was assimilated into trehalose phosphate, glucans and amino acids, but not into free glucose or fructose. These data indicate that hexitols are quantitatively important intermediates during the assimilation of glucose by Puccinia graminis.  相似文献

Summary Germlings of the plant pathogenic fungusUromyces appendiculatus sense and respond to topographical signals of various substrata by undergoing a cell differentiation process that culminates in a structure termed an appressorium. In some cell systems, recognition and mediation of extracellular signals is via transmembrane glycoproteins known as integrins that often exhibit specific affinities to the tripeptide sequence Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) found in several extracellular matrix components. Germlings grown on substrata inductive for appressorium formation in the presence of buffered synthetic peptides containing the amino acid sequence RGD, e.g., RGD, RGDS, GRGD, and GRGDGSPK (0.5–2.0 mM), were inhibited from developing appressoria. Two non-RGD peptides (GGGG and RGES) as well as two RGD peptides (GRGDS and RGDSPASSKP) did not inhibit appressorium formation. Germling growth was not significantly affected by any of the peptides. Furthermore, 0.5 m diameter micropipettes that are normally inductive for appressorium formation when positioned between the germling apex and the substratum did not induce appressorium formation when coated with the RGD peptide. Silanized micropipettes left uncoated or coated with RGES were inductive for appressorium formation. Those observations lead to the hypothesis that an integrin-like protein may be involved in the process of signaling for initiation of appressorium formation inUromyces. An RGDSPC-affinity column was used to isolate proteins fromUromyces germlings with affinity to the RGD sequence. Elution with RGD or EDTA, but not with RGES, yielded at least 12 proteins of which one protein (95 kDa) expressed affinity on immunoblots to two different antibodies of 1-integrin; one to the carboxyl-terminus of a synthetic peptide of integrin from chicken, and the other from the amino terminus of integrin from human placenta.Abbreviations ECM extracellular matrix - EDTA ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid - MAb monoclonal antibody - PAb polyclonal antibody - PVDF polyvinylidene difluoride  相似文献

作者对中国科学院微生物研究所真菌标本室所藏的玄参目植物(爵床科,木犀科和玄参科)上的柄锈菌标本作了较详细的订正研究,共获得了12个种。其中藏玄参柄锈菌Puccinia oreosolenis J.-y. Zhuang为新种,产西藏定结(中喜马拉雅)高山冰缘地带。长尾婆婆纳柄锈菌Puccinia veronicae-longifoliae Savile为亚洲新记录,过去仅知分布芬兰和瑞典。本文对每个种均作了讨论并对各科植物上的种列出了检索表。  相似文献
