Population growth rates of the predatory rotifer Asplanchna brightwelli were determined at 25 °C using a large (Brachionus calyciflorus) and a small (Anuraeopsis fissa) rotifer prey species in three concentrations (0.5, 0.1 and 2.0 g dry weight ml-1) and in five combinations. The prey ingestion time by the predator was also measured. For B. calyciflorus the ingestion time (22.97–8.95 s) was more than six times that of A. fissa (3.68 ± 0.93). Regardless of prey type, the population growth of Asplanchna increased with increasing food density. There was a direct correlation between densities of amictic and mictic fernales. The maximum rate of population growth (1.01 ± 0.10 d-1) was higher at high density of A. fissa prey than that at the same density of B. calyciflorus. Progressive increase of A. fissa density in the offered food combination resulted in a corresponding increase of the predator's number. Gut content analysis of A. brightwelli revealed that the number of prey ingested increased with increasing prey densities.  相似文献

Abstract

A four-year study of species composition of the zooplankton community was conducted at Lagoa Comprida, a Brazilian coastal lagoon. Forty-two species of rotifers were recorded and illustrated. All rotifer species, except Lecane boettgeri Koste, 1986 and Macrochaetus kostei, José de Paggi, Branco &; Kozlowsky-Suzuki, 2000 José de Paggi, S, Branco, C WC and Kozlowsky-Suzuki, B. 2000. A new species of Macrochaetus (Rotifera, Trichotriidae) in a coastal lagoon of Rio de Janeiro State (Brazil). Stud Neotrop Fauna &; Environm, 35: 157160. [Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar], have already been found in other areas of Brazil. 在短期慢性观测过程中,食物类型可能是造成萼花臂尾轮虫(Brachionuscalyciflorus)种群繁殖率变化的一种原因。共观测了分别单独投喂10种不同绿藻对轮虫种群增长率的影响。为验证藻青菌是藻类饵料(如绿藻Scenedesmus)有价值的佐剂这一假说,还用蓝细菌单独投喂或与斜生栅藻(Scenedesmusobliquus)混合投喂轮虫进行实验观测。结果发现食物种类对萼花臂尾轮虫种群增长率影响显著。斜生栅藻组获得最大种群增长(1.6/d),而Desmodesmus组增长率最低(0.3/d)。以占斜生栅藻组最大增长的百分率来表示,其它几种绿藻组种群增长由高到低依次为:Desmodesmussubspicatus88%,小球藻(Chlorellavulgaris)83%,单壳缝藻(Monoraphidiumminutum)77%,D.quadricauda74%,S.falcatus71%,S.acuminatus69%,S.pectinatus64%,莱茵衣藻(Chlamydomonasreinhardtii)57%,D.abundans19%。轮虫增长率的差异不能用藻类饵料的大小差异来解释。蓝细菌(Microcystisaeruginosa)和(Synechococcuselongates)不论是单独投喂还是与优良藻类饵料(斜生栅藻)混合投喂都对萼花臂尾轮虫种群增长有抑制作用。这种副作用似乎与微囊藻素无关。该结果不支持无毒蓝细菌可作为与其他绿藻饵料配合使用的优良佐剂这一假说。本研究所观察到的生长变化显示了饵料种类对萼花臂尾轮虫种群增长的影响,也预示了对毒性实验结果的影响  相似文献

1. A year-round study was conducted in a mesotrophic reservoir to determine the dynamics of zooplankton populations as a function of food availability (edible phytoplankton), nutrient concentration, temperature and hydraulic regime.
2. Rotifer biomass was correlated with soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) concentration. The abundance of the rotifers Keratella cochlearis and Anuraeopsis fissa were not correlated with food availability (measured by chlorophyll and cell counts) but showed a strong dependence on P availability. Another rotifer, Synchaeta oblonga , and crustacean species were not related to nutrient availability but seemed to be dependent on food concentrations, especially of some phytoplankton taxa.
3. In this field study, rotifers seemed more susceptible than Daphnia or copepods to P-limitation. Among rotifer species, Keratella seemed to be more susceptible than Anuraeopsis to P limitation. Different susceptibilities of zooplankton species to nutrient limitation may be important in explaining the dynamics of these organisms in natural situations. Further analyses are warranted to clarify the interactions between nutrient limitation and energy limitation among zooplankton.  相似文献

Four strains of Dactylella gephyropaga obtained from Japan and Indonesia captured mites, as well as nematodes, by means of the adhesive hyphal network composed of columnar processes and rectangular meshes of hyphae, in which each of the meshes was made by additional growth of apex of a columnar process toward that of neighboring process and anastomosis with each other. This is the first report showing that a fungus captured and consumed mites. When immersed under water, the four strains captured rotifers also with the columnar processes by adhesion. The CBS178.37 used for comparison was not the strain of D. gephyropaga, and its adhesive network was produced only by repeating development and anastomosis of curved hyphae that captured neither mites and rotifers but only nematodes.  相似文献

Summary The sequence of the appearance of mixis in the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis was followed among the descendents of amictic rotifers transferred from a high salinity media (40 S) to a low one (9 S). All the neonates that hatched from the amictic eggs, after being transferred to a low salinity, were amictic. Each one of these neonates was cultured individually and its offspring removed periodically every 8–10 h. It was observed that throughout their reproductive phase, these parental females retained their potential to produce either mictic or amictic offspring. All the first produced neonates developed into amictic females, but among those produced later, three patterns were prevalent. The prevalent pattern (type A) was one in which the probability of a neonate being mictic increased towards the middle of the parents' reproductive phase and was followed by a slow decline. In the second pattern (type B), the probability of a daughter being mictic was constant throughout the parents' reproductive phase. It is suspected that the quality of food supplied to the rotifers determines the appearance of patterns, A, B or C. It is postulated that the innate capacity of rotifers to undergo mixis is genetically controlled, while its expression is modulated by environmental conditions.  相似文献

Effect of acetylcholine and anticholinergic drugs on feeding, oviposition, and anesthesia in rotifers was investigated. Neurotransmitter as well as antagonist drugs inhibited feeding in Brachionus calyciflorus in a dose-dependent manner. Most antagonist drugs caused an oscillating tachyphylaxis (drug habituation): the drug effect wore off and returned several times within an hour. Acetylcholine inhibited oviposition in Philodina acuticornis, and this effect was antagonized by all groups of anticholinergic drugs. The strongest antagonism was caused by neuromuscular blockers, and thus the cause of oviposition inhibition may be a cloacal sphincter spasm. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitory insecticides also antagonize the acetylcholine effect. Acetylcholine potentiates the anesthetic activity of ionizing local anesthetics (procaine, lidocaine) as well as that of atropine and the beta-adrenergic blocker propranolol. Muscarinic antagonists (atropine, benactyzine) and propranolol caused foot paralysis in B. calyciflorus, which is also potentiated by acetycholine. Involvement of nine classical neurotransmitters in the abnormal sessile behavior of the rotiferBrachionus plicatilis was investigated. Only norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA) and octopamine (OA) induced sessility. NE and DA behaved as a full, OA as a partial agonist; NE was more potent than DA. Catecholamines may be involved as neurotransmitters in the pedal gland secretory mechanism.  相似文献
