Cryptochrome (CRY) is a blue-light-absorbing protein involved in the photic entrainment of the circadian clock in Drosophila melanogaster. We have investigated the locomotor activity rhythms of flies carrying cryb mutant and revealed that they have two separate circadian oscillators with different responsiveness to light. When kept in constant light conditions, wild-type flies became arrhythmic, while cryb mutant flies exhibited free-running rhythms with two rhythmic components, one with a shorter and the other with a longer free-running period. The rhythm dissociation was dependent on the light intensities: the higher the light intensities, the greater the proportion of animals exhibiting the two oscillations. External photoreceptors including the compound eyes and the ocelli are the likely photoreceptors for the rhythm dissociation, since rhythm dissociation was prevented in so1;cryb and norpAP41;cryb double mutant flies. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated that the PERIOD expression rhythms in ventrally located lateral neurons (LNvs) occurred synchronously with the shorter period component, while those in the dorsally located per-expressing neurons showed PER expression most likely related to the longer period component, in addition to that synchronized to the LNvs. These results suggest that the Drosophila locomotor rhythms are driven by two separate per-dependent clocks, responding differentially to constant light.  相似文献

Exposure to constant light abolishes circadian behavioral rhythms of locomotion and feeding as well as circulating melatonin rhythms in pigeons (Columba livia). To determine if feeding rhythmicity could be maintained in pigeons exposed to constant light, periodic infusions (10h/day) of melatonin were administered to pinealectomized and bilaterally retinectomized/pinealectomized pigeons under conditions of both constant darkness and constant light. The infusions were sufficient to entrain rhythmicity in pinealectomized pigeons in constant darkness and to restore and maintain rhythmicity in bilaterally retinectomized/pinealectomized pigeons in constant darkness. On subsequent exposure to constant light, rhythmicity remained phase locked to the melatonin infusions in bilaterally retinectomized/pinealectomized pigeons but was abolished in sighted pinealectomized birds. These results suggest that while endogenous melatonin rhythms are both necessary and sufficient to maintain behavioral rhythms in DD, their effect can be overridden by constant light but only if perceived by the eyes. Thus, constant light may abolish behavioral rhythmicity in intact pigeons (and perhaps in other species) by a mechanism other than suppression of endogenous melatonin rhythmicity. Circadian regulation of pineal melatonin content was studied in Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus), especially melatonin peak width and the temporal correlation to wheel-running activity. Melatonin was measured by radioimmunoassay in glands removed at different circadian times with respect to activity onset (= CT 12). Pineal melatonin peak width (h; for mean 125 pg/gland) and activity duration () were both 4–5 h longer after 12 or 27 weeks than after 5 or 6 days in continuous darkness (DD). Increased peak width was associated with a delay in the morning decline (M) of melatonin to baseline, correlated with a similar delay in wheel-running offset. In contrast, the evening rise (E) in melatonin occurred at approximately the same circadian phase regardless of the length of DD. Fifteen min light pulses produced similar phase-shifts in melatonin and activity. In a phase advance shift, M advanced at once, while E advanced only after several days of adjustment. Independent timing of shifts in the E and M components of the melatonin rhythm suggest that these events are controlled separately by at least two circadian oscillators whose mutual phase relationship determines melatonin peak width. 2012年10月至2013年4月,在西藏墨脱县雅鲁藏布江河谷海拔1 200 m附近的山地亚热带常绿阔叶林生境中,使用固定红外相机拍摄的方法,对帚尾豪猪(Atherurus macrourus)的活动情况进行记录。将记录到帚尾豪猪在每月每日各时间段的出现频次与月光周期相对应,计算帚尾豪猪的夜行性指数、活动模式和相对丰富度指数,分析帚尾豪猪的活动节律与月光周期的相关性。结果显示,帚尾豪猪为典型的夜行性动物,其活动模式为单峰型,每天的活动高峰为21:00~0:00时。帚尾豪猪的活动节律与月光周期存在相关性(R2=0.897):新月期和残月期活动较频繁,在活动不频繁的满月期显现晨昏活动趋向;上弦月期仅在上半夜(20:00~1:00时)活动,下弦月期仅在下半夜(1:00~6:00时)活动。帚尾豪猪强烈回避月光,或许是为了降低捕食风险。  相似文献

 本文研究了甘肃永登和内蒙阿拉善左旗的发菜生态条件,发现了发菜生长中的水分节律现象。 发菜生于干燥的高原荒漠草原地带,属大陆性气候。其年平均气温为4.5—8℃,≥10℃积温为2231—2800℃·年,年温差大,昼夜温差明显。年平均降水量为201—290mm,集中在6—8月。年平均相对湿度为46—58%,有露水的天气约80天。土壤主要是由第三纪红土母质发育而来的棕钙土,营养贫乏,石灰质沉积明显,呈强碱性反应。年日照时数3000±300小时,辐射强烈。发菜在结构和生理上表现出强烈的旱生生态适应性,包括它的耐旱,耐贫瘠,嗜阳、嗜碱以及对温度变化的适应性强。 发菜生长中具有明显的水分节律现象。在5—10月,在暂短的降雨和露水后,藻体迅速吸取水分而得以生长。尔后,水分又很快被蒸发,藻体变干,生长停滞。发菜在这种湿润⇌干燥的反复节律中得到不断的断续生长和积累,从而完成发菜在干燥条件下的年生长过程。  相似文献

It has been investigated whether diurnal rhythms of sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS) are involved in controlling the rate of photosynthetic sucrose synthesis. Extracts were prepared from spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) leaves and assayed for enzyme activity. The activity of SPS increased in parallel with a rising rate of photosynthesis, and was increased by feeding mannose and decreased by supplying inorganic phosphate. In leaf material where sucrose had accumulated during the photoperiod or when sucrose was supplied exogenously, SPS activity decreased. During a diurnal rhythm, SPS activity increased after illumination, declined gradually during the light period, decreased further after darkening and then recovered gradually during the night. These changes did not involve an alteration of the maximal activity, but were caused by changes in the kinetic properties, revealed as a change in sensitivity to inhibition by inorganic phosphate. In experiments which modelled the response of SPS to changing metabolite concentrations, it was shown that these alterations of kinetic properties would strongly modify the activity of SPS in vivo. It is proposed that SPS can exist in kinetically distinct forms in vivo, and that the distribution between these forms can be rapidly altered. As the rate of photosynthesis increases there is an activation of SPS, which may be directly or indirectly linked to changes in the availability of Pi. This activation can be modified by factors related to the accumulation of sucrose. 对野外观察记录的76 群460 余只盘羊在9、10、11 月份的集群和日活动数据进行统计分析, 结果表明: 天山盘羊在发情前后从以独羊群、雄性群、雌性群和母子群为主的集群类型转变为以单一的混合群为主的集群类型。集群大小平均由发情前的8.3 ±4.6 只变为发情后的15.9 ±11.1 只, 差异极其显著( P = 0.003 < 0.01) 。结果还发现, 由于发情前后集群行为的变化, 盘羊的日活动节律也随之发生显著改变。  相似文献

Forty-two hematological and biochemical variables routinely measured in dogs as part of a preoperative protocol have been analyzed for circannual changes by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and single cosinor procedures. Data were available from up to 489 adult mongrel dogs of both sexes studied on weekdays over a 5-year span (January 5, 1987 to December 18, 1991). Dogs were housed in individual cages at 24 ± 1 °C with dog chow and tap water available ad libitum and lights on between 06:00 and 18:00 h. A single blood sample/dog was collected by jugular venipuncture between 08:00 and 09:00 h and sent to a commercial laboratory for hematological and biochemical determinations. Data were assigned to date and time of sampling and analyzed for the effect of time of year by ANOVA (across 12 months and 4 seasons), and by the least-squares fit of a precise 1-year cosine. ANOVA and single cosinor described a significant circannual time effect and rhythm for the following: total leukocytes, lymphocytes, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), MCH concentration, red cell distribution width, mean platelet volume, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), BUN/crea-tinine ratio, amylase, glucose, chloride, uric acid, direct bilirubin, total protein, albumin, globulin, albumin/globulin ratio, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phos-phatase, γ-glutamyltransferase, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/ALT ratio. A significant effect of season by ANOVA only was found for: Ca, Na, phosphorus, total bilirubin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, and neutrophils. No significant time effect could be found at p n%ge 0.05 by either statistical method for: K, Mg, Fe, cholesterol, triglycerides, ASP, red blood cells, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, or platelets. Studies suggest some physiologic, cognitive, and behavioral 24h rhythms are generated by cyclic components that are shorter in period than circadian. The aim of this study was [1] to examine the hypothesis that 24h human performance rhythms arise from the integration of high-frequency endogenous components and [2] to quantify the contribution of each higher frequency component to the phenotype of the rhythm. We monitored the performance of 9 experienced pilots by employing an array of cognitive-based tests conducted in a flight simulator so that, over the 6-day experiment, data were obtained for each 2h interval of the 24h. The activity-rest schedule of the subjects, no matter the exact clock time schedule of sleep and activity, always consisted of 14h activity (when they carried out regular professional duties) and 10h rest, with at least 8h of sleep. The simulated combat scenarios consisted of simple and complex tasks associated with target interception, aircraft maneuvering, and target shooting and downing. The results yielded two indices: the number of prominent periodicities in the time series and the relative magnitude of the amplitude of each relative to the construction of the composite 24h waveform. Three cyclic components (8h, 12h, and 24h) composed the observed 24h performance pattern. The dominant period and acrophase (peak time) of the compound output rhythm were determined by the interplay between the amplitudes of the various individual ultradian components. Task complexity (workload) increases the expression of the ultradian entities in the 24h pattern. We constructed a model composed of the multiple ultradian components; the composite output defined a “time span” (of 2h-4h duration) as opposed to an exact “time point” of high and low performance, endowing elevated functional capability.
