In this paper, we develop a dynamic stock model and scenario analysis involving a bottom‐up approach to analyze copper demand in China from 2005 to 2050 based on government and related sectoral policies. The results show that in the short‐term, China's copper industry cannot achieve a completely circular economy without additional measures. Aggregate and per capita copper demand are both set to increase substantially, especially in infrastructure, transportation, and buildings. Between 2016 and 2050, total copper demand will increase almost threefold. Copper use in buildings will stabilize before 2050, but the copper stock in infrastructure and transportation will not yet have reached saturation in 2050. The continuous growth of copper stock implies that secondary copper will be able to cover just over 50% of demand in 2050, at best, even with an assumed recycling rate of 90%. Finally, future copper demand depends largely on the lifetime of applications. There is therefore an urgent need to prolong the service life of end‐use products to reduce the amount of materials used, especially in large‐scale applications in buildings and infrastructure.  相似文献

The stink bugs, Halyomorpha halys and Riptortus pedestris, are two of the most economically important pests of leguminous crops and fruits in Korea. Here we present the results from a field monitoring test that evaluated the effect of variation in rocket trap type and color on stink bugs captures. We tested various types of rocket traps, along with wing combinations and landing boards of various colors. The test was run in soybean fields in Miryang, Korea. We developed a modified rocket trap intended to enhance the capture efficacy of stink bugs. We evaluated traps including (1) yellow rocket trap with a solar fan and blue LED lamp, (2) a yellow trap with solar fan but no light, (3) rocket traps with black, green, yellow, white, red, brown, and blue color stimuli, (4) different color combinations of trap wings, and (5) traps with a landing board were evaluated. Our results showed that yellow winged rocket traps with solar fans and blue LED lamps attracted significantly more stink bug species than other traps, in both soybean fields. Use of these improved traps such as a yellow trap with a solar fan and blue LED lamp, and a yellow trap with a solar fan would therefore enhance the monitoring and capture of stink bugs in diversified agro-ecological landscapes. The potential use of traps with a specific hue, combination of features, and modifications to monitor stink bugs accurately is discussed. Continuing improvements to traps to meet the demands of a changing pest landscape and agricultural mechanization are needed.  相似文献

Multiregion input–output (MRIO) models have become increasingly important in economic and environmental analysis. However, the current resolution of most MRIO models fails to capture the heterogeneity between subregions, especially in cities. The lack of city‐level MRIO tables has impeded the accomplishment of city‐level studies and hampered the understanding of the relationship between urban growth and consumption, and teleconnections to other regions. In this paper, we propose a partial survey‐based multiple‐layer framework for MRIO table compilation of a Chinese province that distinguishes city‐based regions. This framework can effectively address a large number of data processes and retain consistency between layers. Using the framework, we first compile a nested Hebei‐China city‐level MRIO table and then apply city‐level energy footprint accounting of the North China urban agglomeration. Our results present the critical role of Hebei cities in energy supply in 2012 and quantify energy use embodied in goods for the domestic trade. Tangshan, Shijiazhuang, and Handan are distinctive cities in the energy supply chain of other regions, for both less developed and developed regions. This multiple‐layer framework represents a feasible approach for developing subregional‐level MRIO models and offers the possibility to analyze global trade at the subregional level with limited data. The presence of divergent and independent research traditions in the gestural and vocal domains of primate communication has resulted in major discrepancies in the definition and operationalization of cognitive concepts. However, in recent years, accumulating evidence from behavioural and neurobiological research has shown that both human and non‐human primate communication is inherently multimodal. It is therefore timely to integrate the study of gestural and vocal communication. Herein, we review evidence demonstrating that there is no clear difference between primate gestures and vocalizations in the extent to which they show evidence for the presence of key language properties: intentionality, reference, iconicity and turn‐taking. We also find high overlap in the neurobiological mechanisms producing primate gestures and vocalizations, as well as in ontogenetic flexibility. These findings confirm that human language had multimodal origins. Nonetheless, we note that in great apes, gestures seem to fulfil a carrying (i.e. predominantly informative) role in close‐range communication, whereas the opposite holds for face‐to‐face interactions of humans. This suggests an evolutionary shift in the carrying role from the gestural to the vocal stream, and we explore this transition in the carrying modality. Finally, we suggest that future studies should focus on the links between complex communication, sociality and cooperative tendency to strengthen the study of language origins.  相似文献

Globally, the extraction and diversion of water from river systems has had substantial impacts on aquatic ecosystem health and ecological processes. One such impact is the entrainment of fish at pump offtakes that can result in vast quantities of fish being permanently removed from rivers. Exclusion screens to prevent fish entrainment at pump offtakes are therefore an important management consideration. In this study, impingement and subsequent injury and mortality of a juvenile freshwater perciform, Golden Perch (Macquaria ambigua), was assessed in the laboratory using a simulated fish exclusion screen under a range of velocities and impingement durations. A 2 mm wedge‐wire screen eliminated the entrainment of 44‐day‐old Golden Perch that were exposed to approach velocities between 0.05 and 0.3 m/s. However, impingement rates of Golden Perch increased significantly with increased approach velocities and rates of injury and mortality increased with impingement duration. Results from this study indicate the primary mechanisms to reduce fish loss at pump offtakes are to design pump offtakes, fitted with fish exclusion screens, which limit approach velocities or impingement duration. Further studies are required to examine a range of species with varying swimming ability at early life‐history stages. Such data will contribute to the growing body of knowledge that supports adaptive management plans to prevent fish loss at water offtake pumps.  相似文献

Ribonuclease (RNase) mapping of modified nucleosides onto RNA sequences is limited by RNase availability. A codon-optimized gene for RNase U2, a purine selective RNase with preference for adenosine, has been designed for overexpression using Escherichia coli as the host. Optimal expression conditions were identified enabling generation of milligram-scale quantities of active RNase U2. RNase U2 digestion products were found to terminate in both 2′,3′-cyclic phosphates and 3′-linear phosphates. To generate a homogeneous 3′-linear phosphate set of products, an enzymatic approach was investigated. Bacteriophage lambda protein phosphatase was identified as the optimal enzyme for hydrolyzing cyclic phosphates from RNase U2 products. The compatibility of this enzymatic approach with liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) RNA modification mapping was then demonstrated. RNase U2 digestion followed by subsequent phosphatase treatment generated nearly 100% 3′-phosphate-containing products that could be characterized by LC–MS/MS. In addition, bacteriophage lambda protein phosphatase can be used to introduce 18O labels within the 3′-phosphate of digestion products when incubated in the presence of H218O, allowing prior isotope labeling methods for mass spectrometry to include digestion products from RNase U2.  相似文献

运用收益还原法及条件价值评估法(CVM)对武汉市不同类型农地资源的市场价值和非市场价值进行估算。结果表明:全市包括耕地、园地、林地及水域在内的农地资源非市场价值达577.12亿元,相当2004年全市生产总值的29.51%,是农地资源价值构成中的重要组成。其中,现有耕地资源的整体价值达1056.98亿元,目前无法在交易市场得到体现的非市场价值有205.19亿元,占耕地价值的19.41%;园地及水域用地的整体价值分别为219.32和989.94亿元,非市场价值所占比例份额分别为48.45%和14.23%;林地资源的非市场价值达124.72亿元,单位林地的非市场价值为163236元.hm-2。  相似文献

Plant genomic research now faces the ultimate challenge to develop applications in crop plants which implies the translation of gene functions from a model to a crop which is the field of ‘Plant translational genomics’. In this paper we discuss the perspectives of the candidate gene approach (CGA) as a tool for translational genomics in the ‘whole genome’ era. Factors to be considered for a successful application of the CGA in crops such as the type of crop, the complexity of the trait and the type of genes involved are discussed. Several crop traits that require improvement such as tolerance to stress, pod shatter in Brassicaceae and Fusarium resistance, are evaluated with regard to the potential of a CGA as a tool for crop improvement  相似文献

Since most of the metal-hyperaccumulating wild plants only produce very low biomass and many high-yielding crops accumulate only moderate amounts of metals, the current research is mainly focused on overcoming these limitations and the optimization of metal phytoextraction. The main goal of the present study was the improvement of metal concentration and extraction properties of Helianthus annuus L by chemical mutagenesis (the non-GMO approach). Sunflowers--hybrid cultivar Salut and inbred lines-were treated with the chemical mutagen ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS). The effect of chemical mutagenesis on metal concentration in and extraction by new sunflower M1 and M2 mutants was directly assessed on a metal-contaminated field in Raft, Switzerland. Mutants of the M2 generation showed a 2-3 times higher metal shoot concentration than the control plants. The best M2 sunflower "giant mutant" 14/185/04 showed a significantly enhanced metal extraction ability: 7.5 times for Cd, 9.2 times for Zn, and 8.2 times for Pb in aboveground parts, as compared to the control plants. Theoretical calculations for the phytoextraction potential of new sunflower variants note that the best sunflower mutant can produce up to 26 t dry matter per hectare and remove 13.3 kg Zn per hectare and year at the sewage sludge contaminated site of Raft; that is a gain factor of 9 compared to Zn extraction by sunflower controls. Furthermore, the use of sunflower oil and biomass for technical purposes (lubricants, biodiesel, biogas) should produce an additional value and improve the economical balance of phytoextraction.  相似文献

Summary Simultaneous inference for a large number, N, of parameters is a challenge. In some situations, such as microarray experiments, researchers are only interested in making inference for the K parameters corresponding to the K most extreme estimates. Hence it seems important to construct simultaneous confidence intervals for these K parameters. The naïve simultaneous confidence intervals for the K means (applied directly without taking into account the selection) have low coverage probabilities. We take an empirical Bayes approach (or an approach based on the random effect model) to construct simultaneous confidence intervals with good coverage probabilities. For N= 10,000 and K= 100, typical for microarray data, our confidence intervals could be 77% shorter than the naïve K‐dimensional simultaneous intervals.  相似文献
