A study was conducted in three villages in western Venezuela between February 1988 and October 1989 to determine the biting and resting activity of anophelines in relation to human habits, rainfall and fenitrothion spraying of houses. Mosquitoes were collected landing on humans inside and outside experimental huts throughout the night. Only three mosquitoes were found resting in the huts in the morning, but 2470 were collected resting on vegetation in the early morning. The collections yielded eleven species of anopheline, the most abundant being Anopheles nuneztovari, comprising over 75% of the total anophelines collected, followed by An.triannulatus, An.albitarsis s.l. and An.oswaldoi. The four most abundant species showed different diel patterns of biting. For An.nuneztovari the peak of activity was close to midnight indoors and outdoors, for An.triannulatus between 19.00 and 20.00 hours outdoors, for An.albitarsis mainly before midnight indoors and outdoors and for An.oswaldoi outdoors at 19.00 hours, with an additional smaller peak indoors at midnight. Most of the human population use bednets, go to bed before 22.00 hours and are therefore most exposed to mosquitoes that bite outdoors early in the night. Fenitrothion house-spraying failed to prevent large mosquito populations developing in the wet season, presumably because of their exophilic resting habits. The possible advantages of impregnation of existing bednets with pyrethroids, and provision of nets for people who do not have them, are discussed. 相似文献

Neutral red stains both normal and cancer mitotic cells, but uptake by living mitotic cancer cells is distinctly higher than in normal cells. This new approach to cancer cell identification is demonstrated in 4 established tumorigenic cancer cell lines: human skin epidermoid carcinoma A431, mouse Cloudman malignant melanoma, human oral epidermoid carcinoma and rat hepatoma. Human Chang liver cells served as normal controls. With epidermal growth factor (EGF) prepulse, neutral red uptake is dramatically enhanced. Giant tortoises have been found from the Plio-Pleistocene sediments of Tha Chang sandpits, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand. These tortoises are represented by several individuals and are described based on carapace, plastron, limb bones, and isolated plates. Three different morphotypes of epiplastral projection are recognized, pertaining to different sexes or different ontogenetic stages. Based on their large size, thick shell, single supracaudal, well-developed epiplastral projection, gulars covering anterior part of the entoplastron or in contact with the latter, and humeropectoral sulcus posterior to entoplastron, these Thai giant tortoises are assigned to the genus Megalochelys. Thai specimens show strong similarities with large tortoises from India as well as those from Flores and Timor, and are therefore very close morphologically to Melgalochelys atlas. Our study provides new evidence about polymorphism and additional information about distribution of Plio-Pleistocene fossil giant tortoises in South and Southeast Asia. 相似文献

Abstract. Bloodmeals of exophilic anopheline mosquitoes collected resting on vegetation in a malaria endemic area in western Venezuela were identified by ELISA. Using a TMB peroxidase substrate in the ELISA, human bloodmeals were readily identified up to 40 h after ingestion in all laboratory-fed mosquitoes tested. Assay sensitivity declined to 75% identifiable 44 h post-feeding.
The Human Blood Index and the Feeding Index of each species differed between the three villages studied. An.triannulatus was generally more anthropophilic than An.nuneztovari and An.oswaldoi. These contrasting results emphasize the difficulties of interpreting host choice data. 相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplemental rumen-protected capsule (RPC) on animal performance, serological indicators, and serum heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) of lactating Holstein cows under heat stress (HS). During summer months, 30 healthy multiparous lactating Holstein cows with a parity number of 3.1 ± 0.44, 70 ± 15 d in milk, an average body weight of 622 ± 62 kg, and an average milk yield of 32.28 ± 0.96 kg/d, were used. The cows were randomly allocated to two groups: a control group and an RPC-supplemented group (0.13373 kg K2SO4, 0.02488 kg vitamin C, 0.021148 kg niacin, and 0.044784 kg gamma-aminobutyric acid per cow). During the 42-d experiment, ambient air temperature and relative humidity inside and outside the barn were recorded hourly every day for the determination of temperature-humidity index (THI). Milk and blood samples were collected every week, and body weight and body condition scoring were measured on day 0. Based on the THI values, the animals had moderate HS. On day 42, the RPC group had lower HSP70, adrenocorticotropic hormone (P = 0.0001), lactate dehydrogenase (P = 0.0338), and IL-6 (P = 0.0724) levels than the control group, with no significant differences in creatine kinase, glucocorticoid, or IL-2 levels. Milk yield, energy-corrected milk, and dry matter intake were higher in RPC than in the control group (P = 0.0196). There were no significant differences in milk fat or daily protein levels between the two groups; however, daily protein and milk fat levels were higher in the RPC group than in the control group (P = 0.0114 and P = 0.0665, respectively). Somatic cell counts were no different between the two groups. In conclusion, RPC may alleviate HS and improve dairy cow performance. 相似文献

目的 :观察治疗前列腺疾病药物谷丙甘氨酸胶囊 (安尿通胶囊 )的临床疗效。方法 :32例前列腺增生患者 ,口服谷丙甘氨酸胶囊 ,每次 82 0mg ,tid ,一个疗程后观察排尿症状进行疗效判定。结果 :32例患者经谷丙甘氨酸胶囊治疗一个疗程后 ,显效 9例 ,有效 14例 ,无效 9例 ,总有效率 72 %。 32例患者用药期间均未发生不良反应。结论 :谷丙甘氨酸胶囊是安全有效的治疗前列腺增生的药物。 相似文献

Abstract. A field trial compared DDT house-spraying with permethrin-impregnated bednets for malaria control in Solomon Islands from 1987 to 1991. Mortality-rates of malaria vector Anopheles farauti in exit window traps were 11.6% from an untreated hut, 10.1% from a hut sprayed with DDT 2 g/m2 , and 98% of those from a hut in which the occupants used bednets treated with permethrin 0.5 g/m2 . Since bioassays of the DDT-sprayed walls (15 min exposure in W.H.O. standard test cones) gave 77% mortality of Anfarauti , it was concluded that the insignificant impact of DDT could be explained by the exophilic behaviour of endophagic vectors, whereas the greater impact of permethrin was attributed to the more effective exposure of Anfarauti females to the impregnated bednets - attracted by the occupants. The parous rate was higher indoors, except in the area with permethrin-impregnated bednets. It was therefore concluded that permethrin-impregnated bednets reduced the mean longevity of Anfarauti and hence its vectorial capacity. The circumsporozoite (CS) antigen positivity rate of Anfarauti in the DDT area was 0.18% outdoors, significantly less than 1.42% indoors. In the comparison area CS rates were 0.65% outdoors and 0.75% indoors. CS antigen was not detected in Anfarauti from the bednet area, indicating the apparent prevention of malaria transmission. As DDT spraying was so much less effective, it was discontinued in 1993 and permethrin-impregnated bednets are now the principal malaria control method in Solomon Islands. 相似文献
