Summary From psychophysics it is known that humans easily perceive motion in Fourier-stimuli in which dots are displaced coherently into one direction. Furthermore, motion can be extracted from Drift-balanced stimuli in which the dots on average have no distinct direction of motion, or even in paradox -motion stimuli where the dots are displaced opposite to the perceived direction of motion. Whereas Fourier-motion can be explained by very basic motion detectors and nonlinear preprocessing of the input can account for the detection of Drift-balanced motion, a hierarchical model with two layers of motion detectors was proposed to explain the perception of -motion. The well described visual system of the fly allows to investigate whether these complex motion stimuli can be detected in a comparatively simple brain. The detection of such motion stimuli was analyzed for various random-dot cinematograms with extracellular recordings from the motion-sensitive Hl-neuron in the third visual ganglion of the blowfly Calliphora erythrocephala. The results were compared to computer-simulations of a hierarchical model of motion detector networks. For Fourier- and Drift-balanced motion stimuli, the Hl-neuron responds directionally selective to the moving object, whereas for -motion stimuli, the preferred direction is given by the dot displacement. Assuming nonlinear preprocessing of the detector input, such as a half-wave rectification, elementary motion detectors of the correlation type can account for these results.Abbreviations EMD elementary motion detector  相似文献

Summary Three giant horizontal-motion-sensitive (HS) neurons arise in the lobula plate. Their axons terminate ipsilaterally in the medial deutocerebrum and suboesophageal ganglion. Both Golgi impregnations and cobalt fills demonstrate that endings of the two HS cells, representing the upper and middle third of the retina, differ in shape and location from that of the HS cell subtending the lower third of the eye. This dichotomy is reflected by the terminals of a pair of centrifugal horizontal cells (CH), one of which invades lobula plate neuropil subtending the upper two-thirds of the retina. The other overlaps the dendrites of the HS cell subtending the lower one-third of the retina. The HS cells are cobalt-coupled to a variety of complexly arborizing descending neurons. In Musca domestica, gap-junction-like apposition areas have been observed between HS axon collaterals and descending neuron dendrites. The three HS cells also share conventional chemical synapses with postsynaptic elements, which include the dendritic spines of descending neurons. Unlike the giant vertical-motion-sensitive neurons of the lobula plate, whose relationships with descending neurons appear to be relatively simple, the horizontal cells end on a large number of descending neurons where they comprise one of several different populations of terminals. These descending neurons terminate within various centres of the thoracic ganglia, including neuropil supplying leg, neck, and flight muscle.  相似文献

PurposeTo commission and assess the performance of AlignRT InBore™, a Halcyon™ and Ethos™-dedicated Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) platform which combines ceiling-mounted cameras for patient setup and bore-mounted cameras for in-bore tracking.MethodsTo check the potential impact of InBore™ cameras on dose delivery, 16 SRS, H&N, breast and pelvis patients’ quality assurance (QA) treatment plans were measured with/without AlignRT InBore™ and using ArcCHECK® and SRS MapCHECK®. Impact on image quality was determined using Catphan® 540 phantom and considering all available MV and CBCT protocols (head, breast, chest and pelvis). The stability, accuracy and overall performance of AlignRT InBore™ was assessed using an MV Cube and anthropomorphic phantoms.ResultsComparison of 2D dose distributions with/without AlignRT InBore™ showed no impact on treatment delivery for all 16 QA checks (p-value > 0.25). 2D and CBCT images showed no artefacts or change in the contrast-to-noise ratio, resolution and noise values measured with Catphan® 540. Anti-collision sensors were unaffected by the bore-mounted cameras. Additionally, AlignRT InBore™ cameras allowed for motion detection with sub-0.5 mm accuracy and sub-0.4 mm stability with surface coverage of >50 × 60 × 35 cc. Accurate transition (sub-0.3 mm) from virtual to treatment isocentres was achieved. Finally, Halcyon™ rotations during CBCT and beam delivery resulted in limited camera vibrations with translation uncertainty <0.5 mm in left-right and anterior-posterior directions and <0.1 mm in head-feet direction.ConclusionAlignRT InBore™ provides SGRT setup and intrafraction monitoring capabilities with a performance comparable to standard SGRT solutions while having no adverse effect on Halcyon™.  相似文献

PurposeIn modulated radiotherapy, breathing motion can lead to Interplay (IE) and Blurring (BE) effects that can modify the delivered dose. The aim of this work is to present the implementation, the validation and the use of an open-source Monte-Carlo (MC) model that computes the delivered dose including these motion effects.MethodsThe MC model of the Varian TrueBeam was implemented using GATE. The dose delivered by different modulated plans is computed for several breathing patterns. A validation of these MC predictions is achieved by a comparison with measurements performed using a dedicated programmable motion platform, carrying a quality assurance phantom. A specific methodology was used to separate the IE and the BE. The influence of different motion parameters (period, amplitude, shape) and plan parameters (volume margin, dose per fraction) was also analyzed.ResultsThe MC model was validated against measurement performed with motion with a mean 3D global gamma index pass rate of 97.5% (3%/3 mm). A significant correlation is found between the IE and the period and the antero-posterior amplitude of the motion but not between the IE and the CTV margin or the shape of motion. The results showed that the IE increases D2% and decreases the D98% of CTV with mean values of +6.9% and −3.3% respectively.ConclusionsWe validated the feasibility to assess the IE using a MC model. We found that the most important parameter is the number of breathing cycles that must be greater than 20 for one arc to limit the IE.  相似文献

This work addresses the use of 3D point data to measure rigid motions, in the presence of occlusion and without reference to a prior model of relative point locations. This is a problem where cluster-based measurement techniques are used (e.g. for measuring limb movements) and no static calibration trial is available. The same problem arises when performing the task known as roving capture, in which a mobile 3D movement analysis system is moved through a volume with static markers in unknown locations and the ego-motion of the system is required in order to understand biomechanical activity in the environment. To provide a solution for both of these applications, the new concept of a visibility graph is introduced, and is combined with a generalised procrustes method adapted from ones used by the biological shape statistics and computer graphics communities. Recent results on shape space manifolds are applied to show sufficient conditions for convergence to unique solution. Algorithm source code is available and referenced here. Processing speed and rate of convergence are demonstrated using simulated data. Positional and angular accuracy are shown to be equivalent to approaches which require full calibration, to within a small fraction of input resolution. Typical processing times for sub-micron convergence are found to be fractions of a second, so the method is suitable for workflows where there may be time pressure such as in sports science and clinical analysis.  相似文献

Guard bees of the stingless bee Tetragonisca angustula (Apidae: Meliponinae) hover in stable positions in front of the nest to protect the flight corridor leading to the nest entrance against insect intruders. To unravel the visual control of station keeping, we exposed these hovering guards to expanding and contracting patterns at the nest front. The bees fly away from an expanding pattern and towards the centre of a contracting pattern along a line connecting their initial position and the centre of expansion regardless of where in the visual field they view the pattern. The response of bees to a spinning radial pattern is different: they fly parallel to the pattern, up and down or forward and backward depending on whether they initially hover to the side, above or below the centre of rotation. The bees respond to horizontal and to vertical expansion and contraction. They also adjust their distance relative to a rotating spiral which produces a realistic flow field and thus allowed us to test to what extent the bees minimize image motion speed. We find that guard bees indeed move in the appropriate direction to minimize the image motion speed they experience. A comparison of bees hovering at different distances from the nestfront at the onset of pattern motion and experiencing very different image velocities shows that the dynamics of the reaction is quite uniform. At the pattern velocities tested, we did not find evidence that guard bees use image motion to control their flight speed. The bees' response rather suggests that the underlying mechanism might be insensitive to the size of motion vectors. Accepted: 2 April 1997  相似文献

The actuator (A) domain of sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase not only plays a catalytic role but also undergoes large rotational movements that influence the distant transport sites through connections with transmembrane helices M1 and M2. Here we explore the importance of long helix M2 and its junction with the A domain by disrupting the helix structure and elongating with insertions of five glycine residues. Insertions into the membrane region of M2 and the top junctional segment impair Ca2+ transport despite reasonable ATPase activity, indicating that they are uncoupled. These mutants fail to occlude Ca2+. Those at the top segment also exhibited accelerated phosphoenzyme isomerization E1P → E2P. Insertions into the middle of M2 markedly accelerate E2P hydrolysis and cause strong resistance to inhibition by luminal Ca2+. Insertions along almost the entire M2 region inhibit the dephosphorylated enzyme transition E2 → E1. The results pinpoint which parts of M2 control cytoplasm gating and which are critical for luminal gating at each stage in the transport cycle and suggest that proper gate function requires appropriate interactions, tension, and/or rigidity in the M2 region at appropriate times for coupling with A domain movements and catalysis.  相似文献

Oxidative stress is one of the major issues associated with cryopreservation because it causes a marked reduction in the post-thaw quality of semen. This study investigated the ability of kinetin to preserve the structural and functional integrity of dog sperm during cryopreservation. Pooled ejaculates were divided into 5 equal aliquots, diluted with buffer 2 supplemented with different concentrations of kinetin (0, 25, 50, 100, and 200 μM), and finally cryopreserved. The optimal concentration of kinetin was 50 μM based on the significantly improved (P < 0.05) motion characteristics and viability of post-thaw sperm samples. Moreover, kinetin-supplemented samples exhibited significantly higher (P < 0.05) sperm counts with the intact plasma membrane, normal acrosomes, mitochondria, and chromatin than control. The beneficial effects of kinetin were also reflected by the significant increase in the expression levels of anti-apoptotic (B-cell lymphoma, BCL2) and protamine-related genes (protamine 2, PRM2; protamine 3, PRM3), and decrease in the expression of pro-apoptotic (BCL2-associated X, BAX) and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species-modulating genes (ROS modulator 1, ROMO1) in kinetin-supplemented sperm samples than in control. The results demonstrated that supplementation of buffer 2 with 50 μM kinetin is ideal for reducing the magnitude of oxidative damage during semen cryoprocessing and improving the post-thaw quality of dog semen.  相似文献

The 4D Treatment Planning Workshop for Particle Therapy, a workshop dedicated to the treatment of moving targets with scanned particle beams, started in 2009 and since then has been organized annually. The mission of the workshop is to create an informal ground for clinical medical physicists, medical physics researchers and medical doctors interested in the development of the 4D technology, protocols and their translation into clinical practice. The 10th and 11th editions of the workshop took place in Sapporo, Japan in 2018 and Krakow, Poland in 2019, respectively. This review report from the Sapporo and Krakow workshops is structured in two parts, according to the workshop programs. The first part comprises clinicians and physicists review of the status of 4D clinical implementations. Corresponding talks were given by speakers from five centers around the world: Maastro Clinic (The Netherlands), University Medical Center Groningen (The Netherlands), MD Anderson Cancer Center (United States), University of Pennsylvania (United States) and The Proton Beam Therapy Center of Hokkaido University Hospital (Japan). The second part is dedicated to novelties in 4D research, i.e. motion modelling, artificial intelligence and new technologies which are currently being investigated in the radiotherapy field.  相似文献
