Abstract Communities of forest and woodland birds are usually studied intensively at only one or a few locations. This provides a perspective that perhaps emphasizes local phenomena at the expense of placing local dynamics in the context of processes operating at the landscape or regional scale. The present paper seeks to redress partially this imbalance by studying the dynamics of individual bird species among several habitat types (all Eucalyptus-dominated forests or woodlands) over the annual cycle. This regional-scale (250km), continental study reveals that species exhibit idiosyncratic dynamics of various kinds: restricted or more ubiquitous occupation of habitats and three forms of seasonal dynamics at the regional scale (resident, migrant and itinerant). By using this classificatory scheme, it becomes evident that the bird communities found in different habitats consist of diverse collections of strategists and that the level of diversity differs among habitat types. The difficulties that many field workers have had in reconciling their observations with community theory most likely reflect the underlying dynamism of bird communities, especially in the temperate regions on continents where seasonal fluxes are pronounced. 相似文献

A vestigiferan species commonly referred to as Pyramimonas obovata N. Carter has been redescribed as P. melkonianii sp, nov. Characters of this species and a further six (P. disomata Butcher ex McFadden, Hill et Wetherbee, P. mantoniae Moestrup et Hill, P. mitra Moestrup et Hill. P. moestrupii McFadden, P. aff. nephroidea McFadden, P. orientalis Butcher ex McFadden, Hill et Wetherbee) isolated from South African waters are used to define further the subgenus Vestigifera McFadden. This includes a unique chloroplast shape and basal hyaline region with stellate or cruciform vacuoles, a transitional plate-like structure in the flagellum, and a different microtubular root system. The proximal set of basal body connectives were found to be remarkably symmetrical and like those of the subgenus Trichocystis McFadden, and a duct fibre was found associated with the Id root in all currently investigated species. The validity of the larger body (box and crown) scales as taxonomic markers at a fine level is also questioned. 相似文献

Summary 1. The amygdaloid complex is a key structure in mechanisms of fear and anxiety. Expression of the immediate-early gene c-fos has been reported in the central nucleus of the amygdala following various stressors, but the functional role of this phenomenon has remained unknown.2. c-fos expression was observed in the central nucleus when rats were subjected to a pharmacologically validated animal model of anxiety, the Vogel conflict test, but not after mere exposure to the test apparatus. Bilateral amygdala injection of a 15-mer phosphorothioate c-fos antisense oligodeoxynucleotide prior to testing blocked conflict-induced c-fos expression and had behavioral effects similar to those of established antianxiety drugs.3. Separate experiments determined that antisense treatment did not affect conflict behavior by acting on shock thresholds or drinking motivation.4. These findings provide evidence that neuronal activation and c-fos induction in the amygdala may be of importance for mechanisms of fear and anxiety. 相似文献

Abstract.
- 1 The possibility of interactions between leaf-miners in the genus Eriocrania and Coleophora serratella L. on birch (Betula pendula Ehrh. and B.pubescens Roth.) was studied via: (i) co-occurrence patterns on random samples of leaves; (ii) palatability of Eriocraniidae-mined leaves to C.serratella, in laboratory and field preference tests.
- 2 In the field, C.serratella and Eriocrania spp. fed on common leaves less frequently than expected by chance. This result is consistent with, and could be explained by, the avoidance of mined leaves shown by C.serratella in most of the feeding trials.
- 3 Avoidance was not observed at the between-tree level, i.e. the number of leaves mined by each type of insect was unrelated. However, when tree species was taken into account, an inverse distribution was observed: mine abundance was higher for Eriocrania spp. on B.pubescens, whereas for C.serratella it was higher on B.pendula.
- 4 B.pubescens leaves mined by Eriocrania spp. had consistently higher phenolic contents and were better at precipitating proteins than unmined leaves. These induced chemical changes could explain the reduced preference shown by C.serrate1la for Eriocrania mined leaves.
- 5 We speculate about the evolution of adult host-plant selection shown by these insects in response to potential larval interactions.

The vegetation dynamics in two former braided channels of the Rhône River was studied at two time scales in order to test the following hypothesis: fluctuations would occur within seasons (flood disturbances, hydrological fluctuations, phenology) while successions would occur between years. The vegetation was surveyed in 1983, 1988 and 1989 during summer for the interannual investigation, and in spring 1989, summer 1989, winter 1989 and spring 1990 for the seasonal investigation. Terrestrialization, which was observed within the same period in other braided former channels of that river, did not happen here despite the 1989 drought. However, a vegetation zone situated in the upstream part one channel seems to represent some successional trend, resulting in the establishment of Nasturtium officinale and the increasing abundance of Chara vulgaris. In disagreement with the tested hypothesis, only fluctuations are observed at the two temporal scales in the other vegetation zones. The amplitude of cyclic trajectories observed in the seasonal study depends of the degree of hydraulic disturbances (floods, drought) that affects each vegetation zone. The channel that is closer to the river is maintained at a steady state by the periodical inputs of kinetic energy during river overflows and fast floods; the disturbances wash away fine deposits and rejuvenate the vegetation mosaic. In the other former channel that is less disturbed by floods and is characterized by a thick layer of fine sediments, the groundwater inputs from numerous limnocrene springs carry away organic matter and slow down ecological successions.Abbreviations C.A.

This study investigates the effects of partial exhalation to feelings of anxiety. Thirty five volunteer subjects (14 male, 21 female, mean age 40.6) were first trained in slow diaphragmatic breathing (SDB). Then subjects rated their anxiety levels on a scale from 1 (none) to 5 (extreme) in sequential conditions of SDB, 70% subjective exhalation, and SDB. During the 70% subjective exhalation phase, subjects were instructed to breathe and limit their exhalation to 70% of the inhaled volume during each consecutive breath. 在气候变化、人类活动等影响下,生态系统结构和功能可能发生大规模的突变,导致生态系统从一个相对稳定的状态进入另一个稳定状态,这种现象称为稳态转换。由于生态系统的复杂性,准确刻画生态系统多稳态并界定其临界点尚存在挑战,提升对生态系统稳态转换的检测和预测能力依旧是生态学领域研究的热点和难题。基于多稳态理论和稳态转换经典概念框架,阐释了稳态转换检测的理论基础;归纳总结出四种稳态转换检测方法的原理和优劣势;鉴于稳态转换的尺度依赖性,梳理了单一生态系统、区域综合生态系统和全球生态系统不同尺度下的稳态转换检测方法、研究思路和应用案例。基于研究进展和问题现状,提出在未来研究中,亟待发展适应复杂系统的综合检测方法;创新稳态转换多尺度分析的技术方法体系;深化生态系统稳态转换驱动机制研究,构建多元耦合机理模型;进而深化稳态转换检测结果链接生态系统管理的实践研究;解析生态系统服务和可持续发展机制。 相似文献
