The paleontological analysis of the fauna from three Late Pleistocene localities in Southern Caucasus (Saka?hia, Ortvala, and Bronze cave) confirmed the presence of Ursus spelaeus, Canis lupus, Equus ferus, Rhinocerotidae, Cervus elaphus, Capreolus capreolus, Alces alces, Bison priscus, Capra caucasica, Ovis ammon and Sus scrofa. The study also permitted the identification of new taxa for these localities. There may be the presence of reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) at Saka?hia, however it has not yet been confirmed. Moreover, remains of aurochs (Bos primigenius) were identified, in particular at Bronze cave where its abundance is exceptional. Indeed, Bos and Bison are generally very rare in Southern Caucasus. The analysis of the proportion of the different species in each locality revealed the two types of occupations of the caves, one dominated by hominids and the other by carnivores. At Saka?hia, where fauna is dominated by the presence of cave bear, the cave was seasonally occupied by Neanderthal groups. On the other hand, Bronze cave corresponds to a habitat of hunters, which occupied the site for longer periods.  相似文献

Summary Of ten terpenes that comprise most of the volatiles of grand fir foliage only four were affected by addition of nitrogen. Levels of beta-phellandrene, camphene and bornyl acetate and terpinolene were significantly reduced with nitrogen added to the equivalent amount of 44.8 g/m2. A quantity of 22.4 g/m2 did not affect terpene production. Several populations were examined and these did not respond consistently on a regional basis, yet a significant interaction effect was apparent between treatment and local population response. Overall, total yield of terpenes as a function of fertilization was not altered.  相似文献

We report the first published accounts of spawning behavior and spawning site selection of the flannelmouth sucker in two small tributaries of the lower Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. Spawning was observed on 20 March 1992 and from 28 March to 10 April 1993 in the Paria River, and from 16 to 19 March 1993 in Bright Angel Creek. Flannelmouth suckers exhibited promiscuous spawning behavior–individual females were typically paired with two or more males for a given event and sometimes changed partners between events. Multiple egg deposits by different females sometimes occurred at one spawning site. Flannelmouth sucker selected substrates from 16 to 32 mm diameter in both streams. Spawning occurred at depths of 10 to 25 cm in the Paria River and 19 to 41 cm in Bright Angel Creek. Mean column water velocities at spawning locations ranged from 0.15 to 1.0 m sec-1 in the Paria River and from 0.23 to 0.89 m sec-1 in Bright Angel Creek. Water temperatures recorded during spawning ranged from 9 to 18° C in the Paria River and 13 to 15° C in Bright Angel Creek. Spawning flannelmouth sucker ascended 9.8 km upstream in the Paria River and 1.25 km in Bright Angel Creek. Spawning females (410–580 mm) were significantly larger than spawning males (385–530 mm) in the Paria River. The mean size of spawning fish in the Paria River was significantly smaller than the entire stock, averaged throughout the study period (380–620 mm). However, fish spawning in 1992–1993 averaged 53 mm larger than fish spawning in the same reach of the Paria River in 1981, indicating a shift in the size structure of this stock.  相似文献

Tail-anchored membrane proteins (TAMPs) are relatively simple membrane proteins characterized by a single transmembrane domain (TMD) at their C-terminus. Consequently, the hydrophobic TMD, which acts as a subcellular targeting signal, emerges from the ribosome only after termination of translation precluding canonical co-translational targeting and membrane insertion. In contrast to the well-studied eukaryotic TAMPs, surprisingly little is known about the cellular components that facilitate the biogenesis of bacterial TAMPs. In this study, we identify DjlC and Flk as bona fide Escherichia coli TAMPs and show that their TMDs are necessary and sufficient for authentic membrane targeting of the fluorescent reporter mNeonGreen. Using strains conditional for the expression of known E. coli membrane targeting and insertion factors, we demonstrate that the signal recognition particle (SRP), its receptor FtsY, the chaperone DnaK and insertase YidC are each required for efficient membrane localization of both TAMPs. A close association between the TMD of DjlC and Flk with both the Ffh subunit of SRP and YidC was confirmed by site-directed in vivo photo-crosslinking. In addition, our data suggest that the hydrophobicity of the TMD correlates with the dependency on SRP for efficient targeting.  相似文献

Canine livers were successfully preserved in an ischemic state for 24 hr under hypothermic storage with hyperosmolar colloid or crystalloid solutions. Livers preserved with a colloid hyperosmolar solution (MSGF) showed slightly better survival results than the ones preserved with a crystalloid hyperosmolar solution. It is possible that hyperosmolarity associated with hyperkalemia is an important factor for liver preservation for transplantation.  相似文献

In this work, suitable mathematical relationships to compute isobaric heat capacities from molecular simulations in the Grand Canonical (GC) ensemble are derived and tested via Monte Carlo methods. Using atomistic classical force fields, the residual isobaric heat capacities of pure carbon dioxide (CO2) and pure methanol (MeOH) were obtained at supercritical conditions (with critical properties estimated from a finite-size scaling analysis). The total isobaric heat capacity was determined by combining the residual isobaric heat capacity obtained from molecular simulations with the ideal gas contributions obtained from experimental correlations. Isobaric heat capacities generated from both GC and Isothermal–Isobaric ensemble simulations were compared to predictions from accurate equations of state (EOS)s for CO2 and MeOH at corresponding reduced temperatures and pressures. Isobaric heat capacities calculated from both ensembles were in good agreement with those obtained from the Span and Wagner EOS for CO2 and the IUPAC EOS for MeOH. For comparable computation times, simulations run in the GC ensemble generate results with significantly lower statistical uncertainty than those run in the Isothermal–Isobaric ensemble.  相似文献

BackgroundIran has recently included integrase (INT) inhibitors (INTIs) in the first‐line treatment regimen in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. However, there is no bioinformatics data to elaborate the impact of resistance-associated mutations (RAMs) and naturally occurring polymorphisms (NOPs) on INTIs treatment outcome in Iranian patients.MethodIn this cross-sectional survey, 850 HIV-1-infected patients enrolled; of them, 78 samples had successful sequencing results for INT gene. Several analyses were performed including docking screening, genotypic resistance, secondary/tertiary structures, post-translational modification (PTM), immune epitopes, etc.ResultThe average docking energy (E value) of different samples with elvitegravir (EVG) and raltegravir (RAL) was more than other INTIs. Phylogenetic tree analysis and Stanford HIV Subtyping program revealed HIV-1 CRF35-AD was the predominant subtype (94.9%) in our cases; in any event, online subtyping tools confirmed A1 as the most frequent subtype. For the first time, CRF-01B and BF were identified as new subtypes in Iran. Decreased CD4 count was associated with several factors: poor or unstable adherence, naïve treatment, and drug user status.ConclusionAs the first bioinformatic report on HIV-integrase from Iran, this study indicates that EVG and RAL are the optimal INTIs in first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Iranian patients. Some conserved motifs and specific amino acids in INT-protein binding sites have characterized that mutation(s) in them may disrupt INT-drugs interaction and cause a significant loss in susceptibility to INTIs. Good adherence, treatment of naïve patients, and monitoring injection drug users are fundamental factors to control HIV infection in Iran effectively.  相似文献

Abstract

The Grand Canonical Ensemble Monte Carlo (GCEMC) technique is used to simulate highly nonideal dilute mixtures in the near vapor-liquid critical region. These systems are commonly found in supercritical fluid extraction processes. Mixtures composed of model CO2/naphthalene/water molecules are studied. Very large and highly correlated concentration fluctuations were observed. It was found that when the total number of molecules in the system exceeded about 150, system size dependence was not significant. The GCEMC method breaks down when the system density exceeds about 1.5 times the solvent critical density due primarily to the low probability of successful addition and removal of the large naphthalene molecules. In some systems, the presence of a small amount of water caused a dramatic increase in the system density and in naphthalene solubility. By examining the radial distribution functions in these mixtures, the origin of this effect can be attributed to the preferential aggragation of the solute naphthalene molecules around the highly polar water molecules.  相似文献

The first major reserves to be mobilized following germination of light-promoted lettuce seeds ( Lactuca saliva L. cv. Grand Rapids) are the carbohydrates, largely mannans, located within the cell walls of the endosperm. When these have been depleted, the cotyledonary reserves are hydrolysed; the first of these to decline is protein. Water-, salt- and ethanol-soluble proteins are mobilized simultaneously, and coincident with their loss from the cotyledons there is an increase in aminopeptidase activity. The level of enzyme activity increases appreciably in irradiated seeds after about 30 h from the start of imbibition. Essential for this increase, at least initially, is the presence of the axis - first to perceive the light stimulus, and then to produce and/or release a chemical promoter which diffuses into the cotyledons and effects the rise in enzyme activity. Protein synthesis in the cotyledons is a prerequisite for both development and maintenance of the increased aminopeptidase activity.  相似文献
