The effect of time pressure on attentional shift and anticipatory postural control was investigated during unilateral shoulder abduction reactions in an oddball-like paradigm.
Methods
A cue signal (S1) - imperative signal (S2) sequence was repeated with various S2-S1 intervals (1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 s). S2 comprised target and non-target stimuli presented at the position (9° to the left or the right) indicated by S1. Right shoulder abduction was performed only in response to target stimuli, which were presented with a 30% probability. The P1, N1, N2, and P3 components of event-related potentials were analyzed, and onset times of postural muscles (electromyographic activity of erector spinae and gluteus medius) were quantified with respect to middle deltoid activation.
Results
There was no significant effect of S2-S1 interval on the latency or amplitude of P1, N1, or N2. The percentage of subjects with bimodal P3 peaks was significantly smaller and the slope of the P3 waveform in the 100 ms after the first peak was significantly steeper with a 1.0-s S2-S1 interval than with a 1.5- or 2.0-s S2-S1 interval. The onset of postural muscle activity was significantly later in the shorter interval conditions.
Conclusions
These results suggest that with a shorter S2-S1 interval, that is, higher time pressure, attention was allocated to hasten the latter part of cognitive processing that may relate to attentional shift from S2 to next S1, which led to insufficient postural preparation associated with arm movement and anticipatory attention directed to S2. 相似文献
Accurate representation of musculoskeletal geometry is needed to characterise the function of shoulder muscles. Previous models of shoulder muscles have represented muscle geometry as a collection of line segments, making it difficult to account for the large attachment areas, muscle–muscle interactions and complex muscle fibre trajectories typical of shoulder muscles. To better represent shoulder muscle geometry, we developed 3D finite element models of the deltoid and rotator cuff muscles and used the models to examine muscle function. Muscle fibre paths within the muscles were approximated, and moment arms were calculated for two motions: thoracohumeral abduction and internal/external rotation. We found that muscle fibre moment arms varied substantially across each muscle. For example, supraspinatus is considered a weak external rotator, but the 3D model of supraspinatus showed that the anterior fibres provide substantial internal rotation while the posterior fibres act as external rotators. Including the effects of large attachment regions and 3D mechanical interactions of muscle fibres constrains muscle motion, generates more realistic muscle paths and allows deeper analysis of shoulder muscle function. 相似文献
The distribution of pathogenic vibrios and other bacteria in eight samples of imported frozen shrimps and the effect of irradiation on these bacteria were investigated. Total aerobic bacteria were at 2×104 to 4×106/g. Coliforms consisted mainly ofEnterobacter. No salmonella were detected. A total of 66 isolates, includingVibrio parahaemolyticus, V. mimicus, V. alginolyticus, V. vulnificus, V. fluvialis and a few ofListeria monocytogenes, were obtained. Ecological theories of sexual reproduction assume that sexuality is advantageous in certain conditions, for example, in biotically or abiotically more heterogeneous environments. Such theories thus could be tested by comparative studies. However, the published results of these studies are rather unconvincing. Here, we present the results of a new comparative study based exclusively on the ancient asexual clades. The association with biotically or abiotically homogeneous environments in these asexual clades was compared with the same association in their sister, or closely related, sexual clades. Using the conservative definition of ancient asexuals (i.e., age >1 million years), we found eight pairs of taxa of sexual and asexual species, six differing in the heterogeneity of their inhabited environment on the basis of available data. The difference between the environmental type associated with the sexual and asexual species was then compared in an exact binomial test. The results showed that the majority of ancient asexual clades tend to be associated with biotically, abiotically, or both biotically and abiotically more homogeneous environments than their sexual controls. In the exploratory part of the study, we found that the ancient asexuals often have durable resting stages, enabling life in subjectively homogeneous environments, live in the absence of intense biotic interactions, and are very often sedentary, inhabiting benthos, and soil. The consequences of these findings for the ecological theories of sexual reproduction are discussed. 相似文献
A model for a parallel evolution of the genetic code and protein synthesis is presented. The main tenet of this model is
that the genetic code, that is, a correspondence between nucleotide and aminoacid coding units, originated from sequence-specific
interaction between abiotically synthesized polynucleotides and polypeptides. A sequence-specific binding between oligonucleotides
and oligopeptides is supported by experimental findings. Moreover, it is parsimonious enough to be consistent with the relatively
simple chemistry of a primordial environment. Proximity between peptides and RNA increased the rate of formation of ester
bonds between them. This lead to the accumulation of sequence-specific polypeptide-polynucleotide pairs, that is, of primordial-loaded
tRNA. Condensation of short polypeptides into longer products could be catalyzed by a sequence-specific juxtaposition of loaded
tRNA over complementary RNA, originating the core of protein synthesis. The accumulation of useful encoded products, for example,
catalysts for tRNA loading (primordial aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases) or stabilizers of tRNA-mRNA interactions (primordial ribosomes),
permitted the subsequent evolution of protein synthesis and of the genetic code to their mature form. This occurred via a
parallel reduction in length of the interacting polynucleotides and polypeptides. Thus, it maintained the correct reading
frame of mRNA from the preceding stages of evolution.

Fresh harvested dates are perishable and there is a need for extending their shelf life while preserving their fresh like quality characteristics. This study evaluates three different freezing methods, namely cryogenic freezing (CF) using liquid nitrogen; individual quick freezing (IQF) and conventional slow freezing (CSF) in preserving the quality and stability of dates during frozen storage. Fresh dates were frozen utilizing the three methods. The produced frozen dates were frozen stored for nine months. The color values, textural parameters, and nutrition qualities were measured for fresh dates before freezing and for the frozen dates every three months during the frozen storage. The frozen dates’ color values were affected by the freezing method and the frozen storage period. There are substantial differences in the quality of the frozen fruits in favor of cryogenic freezing followed by individual quick freezing compared to the conventional slow freezing. The results revealed large disparity among the times of freezing of the three methods. The freezing time accounted to 10 min for CF, and around 80 min for IQF, and 1800 min for CSF method. 相似文献
The gleno-humeral (GH) rotation centre is typically estimated using predictive or functional methods, however these methods may lead to location errors. This study aimed at determining a location error threshold above which statistically significant changes in the values of kinematic and kinetic GH parameters occur. The secondary aims were to quantify the effects of the direction of mislocation (X, Y or Z axis) of the GH rotation centre on GH kinematic and kinetic parameters.
Shoulder flexion and abduction movements of 11 healthy volunteers were recorded using a standard motion capture system (Vicon, Oxford Metrics Ltd, Oxford, UK), then GH kinematic and kinetic parameters were computed. The true position of the GH rotation centre was determined using a low dose x-ray scanner (EOS? imaging, France) and this position was transferred to the motion data. GH angles and moments were re-computed for each position of the GH rotation centre after errors of up to ± 20?mm were added in increments of ± 5?mm to each axis. The three-dimensional error range was 5?mm to 34.65?mm.
GH joint angle and moment values were significantly altered from 10?mm of three-dimensional error, and from 5?mm of error on individual axes. However, errors on the longitudinal and antero-posterior axes only caused very small alterations of GH joint angle and moment values respectively. Future research should develop methods of GH rotation centre estimation that produce three-dimensional location errors of less than 10?mm to reduce error propagation on GH kinematics and kinetics. 相似文献
