This paper contributes to clarifying the conditions under which electrode position for surface EMG detection is critical and leads to estimates of EMG variables that are different from those obtained in other nearby locations. Whereas a number of previous works outline the need to avoid the innervation zone (or the muscle belly), many authors place electrodes in the central part or bulge of the muscle of interest where the innervation zone is likely to be. Computer simulations are presented to explain the effect of the innervation zone on amplitude, frequency and conduction velocity estimates from the signal and the need to avoid placing electrodes near it. Experimental signals recorded from some superficial muscles of the limbs and trunk (abductor pollicis brevis, flexor pollicis brevis, biceps, upper trapezius, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis) were processed providing support for the findings obtained from simulations. The use of multichannel techniques is recommended to estimate the location of the innervation zone and to properly choose the optimal position of the detection point(s) allowing meaningful estimates of EMG variables during movement analysis.  相似文献

When developing a humanoid myo-control hand, not only the mechanical structure should be considered to afford a highdexterity, but also the myoelectric (electromyography,EMG) control capability should be taken into account to fully accomplishthe actuation tasks. This paper presents a novel humanoid robotic myocontrol hand (AR hand Ⅲ) which adopted an underac-tuated mechanism and a forearm myocontrol EMG method. The AR hand Ⅲ has five fingers and 15 joints, and actuated by threeembedded motors.Underactuation can be found within each finger and between the rest three fingers (the middle finger, the ringfinger and the little finger) when the hand is grasping objects. For the EMG control, two specific methods are proposed:thethree-fingered hand gesture configuration of the AR hand Ⅲ and a pattern classification method of EMG signals based on astatistical learning algorithm-Support Vector Machine (SVM).Eighteen active hand gestures of a testee are recognized ef-fectively,which can be directly mapped into the motions of AR hand Ⅲ.An on-line EMG control scheme is established basedon two different decision functions:one is for the discrimination between the idle and active modes, the other is for the recog-nition of the active modes. As a result, the AR hand Ⅲ can swiftly follow the gesture instructions of the testee with a time delayless than 100 ms.  相似文献

Finger joint coordination during tapping   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We investigated finger joint coordination during tapping by characterizing joint kinematics and torques in terms of muscle activation patterns and energy profiles. Six subjects tapped with their index finger on a computer keyswitch as if they were typing on the middle row of a keyboard. Fingertip force, keyswitch position, kinematics of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and the proximal and distal interphalangeal (IP) joints, and intramuscular electromyography of intrinsic and extrinsic finger muscles were measured simultaneously. Finger joint torques were calculated based on a closed-form Newton–Euler inverse dynamic model of the finger. During the keystroke, the MCP joint flexed and the IP joints extended before and throughout the loading phase of the contact period, creating a closing reciprocal motion of the finger joints. As the finger lifted, the MCP joint extended and the interphalangeal (IP) joints flexed, creating an opening reciprocal motion. Intrinsic finger muscle and extrinsic flexor activities both began after the initiation of the downward finger movement. The intrinsic finger muscle activity preceded both the IP joint extension and the onset of extrinsic muscle activity. Only extrinsic extensor activity was present as the finger was lifted. While both potential energy and kinetic energy are present and large enough to overcome the work necessary to press the keyswitch, the motor control strategies utilize the muscle forces and joint torques to ensure a successful keystroke.  相似文献

Natural variability of myoelectric activity during walking was recently analyzed considering hundreds of strides. This allowed assessing a parameter seldom considered in classic surface EMG (sEMG) studies: the occurrence frequency, defined as the frequency each muscle activation occurs with, quantified by the number of strides when a muscle is recruited with that specific activation modality. Aim of present study was to propose the occurrence frequency as a new parameter for assessing sEMG-signal variability during walking. Aim was addressed by processing sEMG signals acquired from Gastrocnemius Lateralis, Tibialis Anterior, Rectus Femoris and Biceps femoris in 40 healthy subjects in order to: (1) show that occurrence frequency is not correlated with ON/OFF instants (Rmean = 0.11 ± 0.07; P > 0.05) and total time of activation (Rmean = 0.15 ± 0.08; P > 0.05); (2) confirm the above results by two handy examples of application (analysis of gender and age) which highlighted that significant (P < 0.05) gender-related and age-related differences within population were detected in occurrence frequency, but not in temporal sEMG parameters. In conclusion, present study demonstrated that occurrence frequency is able to provide further information, besides those supplied by classical temporal sEMG parameters and thus it is suitable to complement them in the evaluation of variability of myoelectric activity during walking.  相似文献

The shoulder is inherently an unstable joint which heavily relies on the neuromuscular activation of the rotator cuff (RC) complex for stability during movement. Currently, there is no consensus regarding how the activity of RC muscles is affected among individuals with a RC tendinopathy (RCTe). This study reviewed the evidence of studies comparing the electromyographic (EMG) activity of any RC muscle of shoulders with a symptomatic RCTe to asymptomatic shoulders. Eight databases were searched. Data from 343 participants (201 symptomatic and 209 asymptomatic shoulders) were analyzed from 10 out of 402 included studies. Strong evidence for the infraspinatus and supraspinatus during isometric contractions and limited evidence for the supraspinatus and infraspinatus during isokinetic contractions suggest that the muscular activity is not altered among individuals with a RCTe during these types of contraction. Very limited evidence indicates reduced muscle activity for the infraspinatus and subscapularis in the presence of a RCTe during isotonic contractions, and no alterations for the supraspinatus or teres minor were identified. Lastly, conflicting to moderate evidence suggests alterations in RC muscle activity during unrestrained movements and swimming. These findings indicate that EMG deficits associated with a RCTe can best be appreciated during unrestrained movements.  相似文献

The effects of whole body vibration exposure on the neuromuscular responses following inertial-based trunk perturbations were examined. Kinematic and surface EMG (sEMG) data were collected while subjects were securely seated on a robotic platform. Participants were either exposed to 10 min of vibration or not, which was followed by sudden inertial trunk perturbations with and without timing and direction knowledge. Amplitude of sEMG was analyzed for data collected during the vibration protocol, whereas the onset of sEMG activity and lumbar spine angle were analyzed for the perturbation protocol. Data from the vibration protocol did not show a difference in amplitude of sEMG for participants exposed to vibration and those not. The perturbation protocol data showed that those not exposed to vibration had a 14% faster muscle onset, despite data showing no difference in fatigue level.  相似文献

The first aim of this investigation was to quantify the distribution of trapezius muscle activity with different scapular postures while seated. The second aim of this investigation was to examine the association between changes in cervical and scapular posture when attempting to recruit different subdivisions of the trapezius muscle. Cervical posture, scapular posture, and trapezius muscle activity were recorded from 20 healthy participants during three directed shoulder postures. Planar angles formed by reflective markers placed on the acromion process, C7, and tragus were used to quantify cervical and scapular posture. Distribution of trapezius muscle activity was recorded using two high-density surface electromyography (HDsEMG) electrodes positioned over the upper, middle, and lower trapezius. Results validated the assumption that directed scapular postures preferentially activate different subdivisions of the trapezius muscle. In particular, scapular depression was associated with a more inferior location of trapezius muscle activity (r = 0.53). Scapular elevation was coupled with scapular abduction (r = 0.52). Scapular adduction was coupled with cervical extension (r = 0.35); all other changes in cervical posture were independent of changes in scapular posture. This investigation provides empirical support for reductions in static loading of the upper trapezius and improvements in neck posture through verbal cueing of scapular posture.  相似文献
