Summary The identification of inbred lines useful for improvement of an elite single cross hybrid is an essential part of a pedigree maize (Zea mays L.) breeding program. The objectives of this study were to identify lines that could be useful for improvement of hybrid B73 × Mo17 and to relate the values of estimators of new favorable alleles with test cross yields. Crosses of parents of hybrid B73 × Mo17 with 10 public lines from the United States (US), and 14 Maize Research Institute Zemun Polje proprietary lines (lines per se, and test crosses from 3 F2 populations) were evaluated at 4 locations in Yugoslavia in 1986. Significant differences in grain yield were found among lines in minimally biased estimates of favorable alleles (G) present in a donor inbred but not present in a B73 × Mo17, in minimum upper bound (UBND) estimates and in predicted three-way performance (PTC). Twenty-one lines had a significant number of dominant favorable alleles for grain yield not present in B73 × Mo17. The highest values for all estimators of new favorable alleles were found for donor lines which belonged to different heterotic groups than the B73 and Mo17. For most of the inbreds, the (C + F) – (D + E) statistics agreed with predigree information. Simultaneous increases in grain yield and decreases in grain moisture content for B73 × Mo17 are possible with several donor inbred lines. All of the lines with a high number of new favorable alleles for grain yield not present in B73 × Mo17 had negative D (F)-G values for low plant height. Line N152 had the most new favorable alleles for grain yield not present in single cross B73 × Mo17. Population (N152 × Mo17) F2 had the highest difference of observed test cross means from check mean, the most test crosses with significantly higher yields than the check, and the largest estimate of number of segregating loci.This project was partly supported by the United States Department of Agriculture and Republic Funds for Scientific Work of Serbia through funds available to the United States-Yugoslav Joint Board on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Summary Intergeneric hybrids between Triticum aestivum L. and conventional rhizomatous Agropyron species were produced in variable frequencies. They were recovered in high percentage frequencies for T. aestivum cultivars with A. acutum (14.6%), A. intermedium (48.0%), A. pulcherrimum (53.3%), and A. trichophorum (46.6%). The crossability percentages with the highly crossable cultivar Chinese Spring for these Agropyron species accessions were 33.12%, 65.0%, 53.3%, and 65.4%, respectively. Autosyndetic associations of two of their three genomes gave mean meiotic chromosome association data of 17.0 I (univalents) +1.53 II (ring bivalents) + 7.04 II (rod bivalents) +1.43 III (trivalents) +0.05 IV (quadrivalents) +0.01 IV (pentavalents) for A. acutum and of 21.8 I + 1.56 II (rings) +7.22 II (rods) +0.84 III + 0.04 IV for A. intermedium. Chromosome pairing at metaphase I was comparatively lower for A. pulcherrimum (34.4 I + 0.2 II (rings) +3.4 II (rods) +0.14 III) and A. trichophorum (36.7 I + 0.35 II (rings) +2.26 II (rods) + 0.04 III) hybrids with T. aestivum. Hybrids of wheat with A. campestre and A. repens were obtained in low frequency. Direct crossing did not permit T. aestivum/ A. desertorum hybridization. However, by utilizing the 2n=10x=70 A. repens/A. desertorum amphiploid as the pollen source, hybridization with T. aestivum did indeed occur. Summary Interspecific crosses of five cultivated cassava varieties (2n=36) were made with two related Manihot species, M. epruinosa (2n=36) and M. glaziovii (2n=36). From these diploid interspecific crosses, four spontaneous tetraploids (2n=4x=72) and two triploids (2n=3x=54) were isolated for the first time in cassava. Occurrence of relatively high frequencies (0.1%–35.6%) of 2n pollen and of apomixis seems to be associated with sexual polyploidization. The tetraploids and triploids were very vigorous and one of the tetraploids performed as well as the best variety in uniform yield trials conducted in Nigeria. These spontaneous polypoloids provide greater genetic variation and offer an opportunity to breed radically new cassava varieties. Approaches for isolating and utilizing the polyploid cassava clones for varietal and population improvement are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The relative viabilities of homozygous and heterozygous karyotypes were measured by making crosses between strains ofD. ananassae homozygous for ST or inverted gene orders in the second and third chromosomes. The strains utilized during the present study originated from widely separated localities in India, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabaru, Malaysia and Chian Mai, Thailand. The presence of heterosis in many interpopulation crosses is evident from the results which show that the inversion heterozygotes formed by chromosomes coming from distant populations exhibit heterosis. On the other hand, heterosis is absent in two intrapopulation crosses. Thus the present results provide evidence that heterozygosis for many genes and gene complexes does produce high fitness without previous selectional coadaptation.  相似文献

Summary Diallel crosses were made between clones of a French and a Swedish provenance of Picea abies. The former is characterized by a long critical night length for bud-set and a late flushing of the buds; the latter by a short critical night length for bud-set and an early flushing of the buds. The F1 hybrid seedlings and their French and Swedish intraprovenance half-sibs were tested over three growth periods in the phytotron at the College of Forestry, Stockholm. In comparison with intraprovenance half-sibs, the hybrid progenies gave, on average, an intermediate response for the photoperiodic control over budset and for the temperature requirements for bud-flushing. This indicates the prevalence of additive action of multiple factors in the determination of the photoperiodic and temperature response. However, individual interprovenance hybrid progenies revealed a range of responses, and in certain combinations the response of these hybrids and their intraprovenance half-sibs coincided. By selection of suitable parents, interprovenance crosses can be used to produce hybrids with desired photoperiodic characteristics and temperature requirements.With gratitude and appreciation we dedicate this paper to Åke Gustafsson at the occasion of his 70th birthday, April 8, 1978  相似文献

Nine F1 crosses of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) and their parental genotypes were evaluated for transpiration decline curves (TDC) and stomatal characteristics. The most common type of TDC had one inflexion. One parent and three crosses were characterized by TDC of two inflexions, while one cross had TDC without inflexion. The genotypes which exhibited TDC with 2inflexions showed later time to stomatal closure (SC). Also stomatal and cuticular transpiration rates differ significantly among studied genotypes. A model for selecting genotypes with effective water retaining features was suggested. This model includes relative water content (RWC) at SC, stomatal density, guard cell length, stomatal pore width at both sides of the leaf, stomatal pore length at lower side and leaflet dry mass This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Daphnia magna clones, isolated from different natural populations, were inbred and crossbred. Some aspects of the heredity of the phototactic behaviour, quantified by an index, were analysed. Heritability in the broad sense was determined for several assemblages of clones through calculation of the clonal repeatability. Heritability sensu strictu was determined by offspring-parent regressions. Frequency distributions of a phototactic index of several inbred and crossbred families are given.The results indicate a significant contribution of additive genetic variance to the total phenotypic variance. Comparison of heritability estimates suggests an important genetic interaction component.Some implications of these results on the variability of vertical migration patterns in natural populations are discussed.  相似文献

The method of combining ability analysis of diallel crosses for Griffing method-3 for one and two missing observations has been presented. The formulae for estimating the parameters, the variances of different estimates and the sum of squares for various effects have been presented. In situations where native mutualists have become extinct, non‐native species may partner with remnant native species. However, non‐native mutualists may differ behaviorally from extinct native mutualists. In the case of pollination, novel relationships between natives and non‐natives could differ both quantitatively and qualitatively from native–native relationships. In Hawai'i, the non‐native Japanese White‐eye (Zosterops japonicus) has largely replaced endemic birds as pollinator of the endemic Clermontia parviflora and C. montis‐loa. We surveyed Clermontia patches and found that they ranged from 106 to 1198 m in diameter. We performed manual pollination of flowers with pollen taken from plants at five distance categories, ranging from 0 (self‐fertilization) to 20 km, and examined the germination of resulting seeds. We used radiotelemetry to estimate daily Japanese White‐eye movement distances. Percent germination of seeds after short‐ to intermediate‐distance pollination crosses (i.e., 20–1200 m, or intra‐patch pollen transfer distances) significantly exceeded germination of seeds from selfed trials for C. parviflora. No significant differences in germination rates among treatments were detected for C. montis‐loa. The maximum daily movement distances of radio‐tracked birds were generally <1 km. Together, these results suggest that this novel pollinator may be an effective mutualist for both Clermontia species. This study serves as an example of research examining qualitative components of novel mutualism, which are generally neglected relative to quantitative components.  相似文献

研究了东方百合系内杂交授粉技术及胚抢救技术。结果表明:(1)在组合‘Justina’בShela’中,采用柱头直接授粉,花粉管在花柱中向下定向生长,在子房中向胚珠定向生长;采用切花柱授粉,花粉管在花柱切口及子房中发生不同程度无向性生长;残留花柱越长,进行胚珠定向的花粉管数量越多,获得的饱满种子越少,采用柱头直接授粉获得的饱满种子最多。(2)采用柱头直接授粉对东方百合系内56个组合进行杂交实验,仅1个组合未获得饱满胚珠、3个组合获得胚珠少于10个,其余52个组合获得大量饱满胚珠,初步表明此法可作为东方百合系内杂交通用授粉技术。不同胚抢救技术试验结果显示,授粉约70d后采用切胚珠接种比胚珠直接接种的杂种胚萌动快、萌发率高,而且前者的胚抢救效率也明显高于授粉40d后的"剥胚式接种"。研究认为,授粉约70d后采用"切胚珠接种"可作为东方百合系内杂交通用胚抢救技术。  相似文献
