Summary The larval tunic of Corella inflata is composed of two cuticular layers, extracellular filaments and ground substance. It lies outside the epidermis and most of it is known to be produced by the epidermis. The dorsal, ventral and caudal fins are specialized parts of the tunic that are essential for larval locomotion. The following hypothesis was tested: Morphogenesis of the larval fins is dependent upon the presence of extraembryonic structures (test cells, chorion or follicle cells) before completion of the late tail bud stage of development. We tested this by dechorionating embryos of Corella inflata and Ascidia paratropa. The operation removes all extraembryonic structures. It was performed mainly on neurula, early tail-bud and late tail-bud stages.Fin formation is inhibited when neurulae are dechorionated but not when late tail-bud or older embryonic stages are dechorionated. Dechorionated neurulae produce all of the major components of the tunic (cuticular layers, filaments and ground substance) but they are unable to form functional fins. At the time of dechorionation, in all experiments, the embryos had no fins.Removal of the follicle cells does not inhibit fin formation. The test cells are known to secrete granular ornaments that attach to the surface of the tunic. The fibrous, acellular chorion may serve to contain the test cells and their products or products of the embryo that are not firmly attached. The test cells may induce or control the morphogenesis of the larval fins in ascidians before the late tail-bud stage of development. We suggest ways of testing this hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis.  相似文献

It describes a method for testing homogeneity without the need to make assumptions about generalized distributions. Multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, helminthiasis, thrombosis, anxiety and insomnia are some of the major global health concerns. Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper (VM) has been used traditionally to treat microbial infection, helminthic disorder, schizophrenia, memory loss, and blood circulatory problem. This research aims to discover antibacterial, anthelmintic, thrombolytic and neuropharmacological effects of the methanol extract of Vigna mungo seeds (MESVM), and also in-silico prediction of relevant lead compounds by molecular docking and ADME/T analysis. The crude extracts and subsequent fractions of MESVM were investigated for antibacterial activity by disc diffusion method, anthelmintic activity by paralysis and death test on earthworms, and thrombolytic activity by in vitro blood clot dissolution test. Open-field test and elevated plus maze test were performed for evaluating anxiolytic activity of the extracts. Using molecular docking, ligand poses of selected VM seeds’ phytoconstituents were predicted targeting tubulin, GlcN-6-P synthase, and human tissue plasminogen activator proteins for anthelmintic, antibacterial, and thrombolytic activity, respectively. In the antibacterial activity test, the MESVM at 10000 μg/mL concentration created highest and significant (P < 0.001) zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus (15.42 mm) and Escherichia coli (12 mm) compared with tetracycline. The MESVM exhibited remarkable anthelmintic activity at 50 mg/mL concentration with 35.4 min paralysis time, 75.2 min death time and were closer to the durations of standard drug albendazole. No test extract showed anxiolytic activity. In thrombolytic activity test, all concentrations of MESVM produced clot lytic activity with high significance (P < 0.001) in comparison with the blank. In docking, 2′-hydroxygenistein, cyclokievitone hydrate, and aureol displayed maximum affinity to the target proteins for anthelmintic, antibacterial, and thrombolytic activity, respectively. This research revealed that the MESVM demonstrated potential anthelmintic, antibacterial and thrombolytic effects that confirmed the folkloric uses of VM and the found relevant lead compounds might be further optimized in future drug development.  相似文献

We attempted to optimize sulfonamide-based non-alkyne LpxC inhibitors by focusing on improvements in enzyme inhibitory and antibacterial activity. It was discovered that inhibitors possessing 2-aryl benzofuran as a hydrophobe exhibited good activity. In particular, compound 21 displayed impressive antibacterial activity (E. coli MIC = 0.063 μg/mL, K. pneumoniae MIC = 0.5 μg/mL, and P. aeruginosa MIC = 0.5 μg/mL), and is a promising lead for further exploration as an antibacterial agent.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if the differences in anaerobic power between males and females could be accounted for by differences in body composition, strength, and neuromuscular function. A total of 82 untrained men and 99 women took part in the study. Body composition, somatotype, isometric strength, neuromuscular function were measured, and four anaerobic power tests performed. The men were significantly different from the women on all strength, power, and neuromuscular measurements except reaction time and on all anthropometric and somatotype dimensions except ectomorphy. Strength and anthropometric dimensions were similarly related to anaerobic power values within each sex. Relative fat (%fat) exerted different degrees of influence on sprint and jump performances in each sex. Removing the influence of anthropometric, strength, and neuromuscular differences by analysis of covariance reduced, but did not remove, the significant differences between the sexes. Therefore, factors other than lean body mass, leg strength, and neuromuscular function may be operating in short-term, explosive power performances to account for the differences between the sexes. The task-specific nature of anaerobic power tests and the relatively large influence of anthropometric factors on power production were confirmed.  相似文献

Bacterial resistance to the existing drugs requires constant development of new antibiotics. Developing compounds active against gram-negative bacteria thereby is one of the more challenging tasks. Among the many approaches to develop successful antibacterials, medicinal chemistry driven evolution of existing successful antibiotics is considered to be the most effective one. Towards this end, the C-20 aldehyde moiety of desmycosin was modified into α-acylamino and α-acyloxy amide functionalities using isonitrile-based Ugi and Passerini reactions, aiming for enhanced antibacterial and physicochemical properties. The desired compounds were obtained in 45–93% yield under mild conditions. The antibacterial activity of the resulting conjugates was tested against gram-negative Aliivibrio fischeri. The antibiotic strength is mostly governed by the amine component introduced. Thus, methylamine derived desmycosin bis-amide 4 displayed an enhanced inhibition rate vs. desmycosin (99% vs. 83% at 1 µM). Derivatives with long acyclic or bulky amine and isocyanide Ugi components reduced potency, whereas carboxylic acid reagents with longer chain length afforded increased bioactivity. In Passerini 3-component products, the butyric ester amide 22 displayed a higher activity (90% at 1 µM) than the parent compound desmycosin (2).  相似文献
