Territorial songs of 4 Asian Willow Tit subspecies namelyParus montanus kamtschatkensis, P. m. songarus, P. m. affinis andP. m. stoetzneri and in addition those of a southern outpost ofP. m. baicalensis are dealt with. These far-eastern subspecies use song types of their own, but nearly identical types may used by different geographical representatives, which are not closely related. The consequences for reconstructing the evolution of the Willow Tit complex by means of acoustical characters are discussed.  相似文献

The net influx of water-soluble organic molecules by the ventral tube of Tomocerus flavescens, a soil litter-inhabiting Collembolan, was investigated. The following substances were tested: [14C]urea, [14C]glycerol, [14C]erythritol, [14C]l-leucine, [14C]d-glucose, [3H]inulin. The animals were exposed to moist filter paper containing a specific test solution. When they evert their ventral-tube vesicles, they absorb water and solutes through the cuticle and the transport epithelium into the body haemolymph. Contamination by radioactive substances and oral solute uptake was avoided by an experimental device. It is evident that the uptake rates decrease with increasing molecular mass especially in a range of 100–200. Further, the rates correlate with the radius of hydrated molecules and their lipid solubility. Significant differences in urea uptake have been shown for animals less than 10 days in culture (“field” animals) and more than 10 days in culture (“laboratory” animals). Whether changes in cuticle permeability could be affected by abrasion is discussed. There is a high deviation amongst uptake values in all experimental series. It seems probably that, besides individual differences caused by abrasion, the animals differ physiologically, e.g. during the moulting cycle and seasonally. A nutritive function of the ventral tube seems to be unlikely. Calculation reveals that the absorbed glucose provides only 0.013% of the amount the animals need for respiration.  相似文献

Preparation of extracts from mature spruce needles for enzymatic analyses   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
It was possible to extract simultaneously several active enzymes involved in the carbohydrate or the amino acid metabolism from spruce needles [ Picea abies (L.) Karst.] when a) a 100 m M Na-Pi buffer of pH 7.5 containing 5% PVPP and 0.5% Triton X-100 was used and when b) the resulting crude extracts were freed from lowmolecular-weight compounds by gel-chromatography using the separation medium Fractogel TSK HW-40. Besides Triton X-100, Triton X-305, Myrij-52 and Brij-35 were tested, but 0.5% Triton X-100 brought about the most active enzyme extracts. In crude extracts prepared from spruce needles during the early summer a high increase in absorbance at 334 nm was observed when the co-substrate NADP+ was added, thus making reliable spectrophotometric assays impossible. The interfering low-molecular-weight substances could be eliminated by gel chromatography. As separation media Bio-Gel P-6 DG, Sephadex G-25 m, Trisacryl GF 05 and Fractogel TSK HW-40 (F) were tested, with Fractogel yielding the highest activities.
With the methods described in this paper the activities of the following enzymes were determined: glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.49), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.44), glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (EC 5.3.1.9), shikimate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.25), NAD+-malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.37), glutamate dehydrogenase (EC 1.4.1.2), aspartate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.1) and alanine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.2). The activities estimated for NAD+-malate dehydrogenase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase are in the range of those published for the needle enzymes of white spruce and Scots pine, respectively.  相似文献

Summary The results presented here reveal that in adult Sprague-Dawley and Wistar rats the pineal gland represents a complex rather than a single organ. Regularly one can distinguish (i) pineal tissue in the intercommissural region as a deep pineal, (ii) a superficial pineal, which represents the major part of the pineal complex, and (iii) nearly always a parenchymal stalk of variable length. The volume of the deep pineal with the adjacent parenchymal stalk exhibits great interindividual variation. It amounts to 127±39×105 m3 (mean ±standard deviation). The histological appearance of the deep and superficial pineal tissue is fairly similar. The intrinsic cells of the deep and superficial pineal differ in nuances only. Karyometry reveals that the nuclear volumes of the intrinsic cells of the deep pineal are very variable ranging from 90–450 m3, with a mean value of 207 m3. Noncyclic electron transport to ferricyanide and photophosphorylation as well as the methylviologen mediated aerobic and anaerobic photophosphorylation with dichlorophenolindophenol-ascorbate as the electron donor of photosystem I were measured during the development of high-light and low-light adapted leaves of Sinapis alba. Anaerobic methylviologen-catalyzed phosphorylation is more than twice as high as aerobic phosphorylation. The difference between the rates of aerobic and anaerobic phosphorylation is sensitive to dibromothymoquinone. Thus, under anaerobic conditions, methylviologen mediates a cyclic phosphorylation including plastoquinone. All photochemical activities of high-light chloroplasts are about twice as high as that of low-light chloroplasts and show a permanent decline with increasing plant age. The lower activities of low-light chloroplasts correlate with a decrease of electron transport components, such as cytochrome f. The manner whereby the oil-producing bisaccate flowers ofAngelonia (Scrophulariaceae) are pollinated by female oil-collecting bees is reported for the first time. Observations were made in the Caatinga formation of Pernambuco, NE. Brazil, on four synchronopatric species. These differ in sizes and structural details of the corolla, level of flower exposition, and habitat preferences. All legitimate visitors wereCentris spp. (Anthophoridae):Angelonia hirta was mainly pollinated byC. fuscata andA. pubescens byC. hyptidis; A. bisaccata andA. hookeriana shared an unidentified species. Several exomalopsine, tetrapediine and meliponid bees exploit the flowers less descriminately for oil or pollen, respectively, without regularly contacting anthers and stigma. The flowers are protandrous, and are self-incompatible except those of the annualA. pubescens. After alighting, theCentris bees introduce their front legs simultaneously into each of the pouches and start alternate collecting movements to gather the oil from the trichome elaiophores. While doing so, they are forced by projections of the corolla floor to press their head under the anthers and stigma, whereby pollen is transferred with their frons or clypeus. On account of their collector type and behaviour,C. fuscata andC. spec. are not specialized toAngelonia but may equally exploit other nonrelated taxa for oil, whereasC. hyptidis exhibits oligolecty onA. pubescens. It possesses relatively elongate forelegs with padlike collectors suitable for sweeping the lipids from the scattered glandular hairs inside the divergent spurs of its host. It is the only species that also collects pollen (by buzzing) from the oil host.A. hirta and relatives, provided with dense elaiophore carpets, are, for their part, adapted to scrapingCentris species with typical oil collectors. Zusammenfassung Beide Muskelrezeptoren an der Mandibel von Leuctra ziehen vom vorderen Tentorium-Arm zur Mandibel-Basis. Der ventrale Rezeptor besteht aus zwei dünnen Muskelfasern (6 bis 7 m Durchmesser) und mindestens 10 multiterminalen Sinneszellen, deren Dendriten sich im Innern der Fasern verzweigen und an den Z-Scheiben enden. Der dorsale Rezeptor besitzt drei ähnlich dünne Muskelfasern, aber nur eine einzelne multiterminale Sinneszelle. Ihre Dendriten enden im Ansatzgebiet des Muskels, zwischen Muskelfasern und Epidermiszellen.Beide Rezeptoren haben im wesentlichen denselben Feinbau wie bei Coleopteren, jedoch treten — besonders beim dorsalen Rezeptor — in den Dendriten-Enden Strukturen auf, die den Tubularkörpern bei Mechanosensillen ähneln.
Two muscle receptor organs at the mandible of Leuctra (Insecta, Plecoptera) — examples for non-ciliary sense organs with tubular-body-like structures
Summary The muscle receptor organs of the mandible of Leuctra extend between the anterior tentorial arm and the mandible base. The ventral receptor is composed of two thin muscle fibres (6–7 m in diameter) and at least ten multiterminal sensory cells, the dendrites of which branch in the interior of the fibres and end near the z-bands. The dorsal receptor organ consists of three muscle fibres of similar diameter and only one multiterminal sensory cell. The dendritic ends lie at the distal end of the muscle, where muscle fibres and epidermal cells make contact.Both receptor organs essentially show the same ultrastructural characteristics as in Coleoptera. However, the dorsal receptor organ in particular possesses organelles in its dendritic ends, which look like the tubular bodies in ciliary mechanoreceptors.

The serological sex-specific (Sxs) antigen (previously called 'H-Y antigen') has been shown, in various vertebrate species ranging from fish to mammals, to be characteristic of the heterogametic sex. We studied a protogynous hermaphrodite, Coris julis, in order to examine whether the change of a female to a secondary male also involves a change in the Sxs-antigen phenotype. The (homogametic) females of this species were found to be Sxs negative, while both primary and secondary males were Sxs positive. This was true not only for gonads but also for nongonadal tissues. The administration of androgen to females is known to cause sex inversion in this species; we were able to demonstrate this again at the histological level, and found that androgen results in a Sxs positive phenotype in all tissues studied (gonads, spleen, muscle). We propose that androgen is responsible, directly or indirectly, for the occurrence of the Sxs antigen.  相似文献

The Sichuan Treecreeper, Certhia tianquanensis Li 1995, was recently recognized as an independent species. Apparently, it is an endemic relict occupying an extremely small range in western Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces, China. During April–July 2003, its breeding biology was studied using field observation and data logger records of five nests found on Wawu Shan in Sichuan province, southwest China. Nest materials were mainly mosses; eggs are white with dense red spots concentrated at the large pole. During the incubation period, the male fed the female outside the nest with 6–13 min intervals between the single feeding events; afterwards, the female regularly returned to the nest within 47.8 ± 25.2 s. The female took 22.14 ± 3.24 recesses per day, with the mean recess length of 8.18 min throughout the incubation period. After the nestlings hatched, the female went out more often than during the incubation period: 55 and 56 times during the first 2 days of nestling period (off-nest time of 6.55 ± 3.15 min).
