Lactic acid bacteria are micro-organisms used for probiotic purposes and form major parts of human and mammalian intestinal microbiota, exerting important health-promoting effects on the host. Here, we evaluated Lactobacillus reuteri strain S5 isolated from the intestines of healthy white feather broilers. Lactobacillus reuteri S5 grew best after 20 h of incubation in MRS medium. Lactic acid production was 1·42 mmol l−1 at 24 h, which was well tolerated. Activities of T-AOC, GSH-Px and T-SOD in the cell-free fermentation supernatant of L. reuteri S5 were higher than those in the bacteria, and the strain showed good hydrophobicity in vitro. The dominant carbon and nitrogen sources of L. reuteri S5 were glucose and soybean meal. A high-quality complete genome map of L. reuteri S5 was obtained using a Pacbio nanopore third-generation sequencing platform. The results showed that L. reuteri S5 possesses a complete primary metabolic pathway, encoding the main functional enzymes of the glycolysis pathway and pentose phosphate pathway. The genome contains genes encoding antioxidants and conferring tolerance to inorganic salt ions, acids and bile salts. This study shows that L. reuteri S5 is a probiotic strain with excellent probiotic characteristics and has great potential for the development of feed additives to promote animal health.  相似文献

Cerebellar Purkinje cells (PCs), the sole output neurons in the cerebellar cortex, play an important role in the cerebellar circuit. PCs appear to be rather sensitive to aging, exhibiting significant changes in both morphology and function during senescence. This article reviews such changes during the normal aging process, including a decrease in the quantity of cells, atrophy in the soma, retraction in the dendritic arborizations, degeneration in the subcellular organelles, a decline in synapse density, disorder in the neurotransmitter system, and alterations in electrophysiological properties. Although these deteriorative changes occur during aging, compensatory mechanisms exist to counteract the impairments in the aging PCs. The possible neural mechanisms underlying these changes and potential preventive treatments are discussed.  相似文献

White blood cell (WBC) detection plays a vital role in peripheral blood smear analysis. However, cell detection remains a challenging task due to multi-cell adhesion, different staining and imaging conditions. Owing to the powerful feature extraction capability of deep learning, object detection methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been widely applied in medical image analysis. Nevertheless, the CNN training is time-consuming and inaccuracy, especially for large-scale blood smear images, where most of the images are background. To address the problem, we propose a two-stage approach that treats WBC detection as a small salient object detection task. In the first saliency detection stage, we use the Itti's visual attention model to locate the regions of interest (ROIs), based on the proposed adaptive center-surround difference (ACSD) operator. In the second WBC detection stage, the modified CenterNet model is performed on ROI sub-images to obtain a more accurate localization and classification result of each WBC. Experimental results showed that our method exceeds the performance of several existing methods on two different data sets, and achieves a state-of-the-art mAP of over 98.8%.  相似文献

Conversion of organic wastes to syngas is an attractive way to utilize wastes. The produced syngas can be further used to produce a variety of chemicals. In this study, a hollow-fiber membrane biofilm reactor with mix cultures was operated at 55 °C to convert syngas (H2/CO2) into acetate. A high concentration of acetate (42.4 g/L) was reached in batch experiment while a maximum acetate production rate of 10.5 g/L/day was achieved in the continuous-flow mode at hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 1 day. Acetate was the main product in both batch and continuous-flow experiments. n-Butyrate was the other byproduct in the reactor. Acetate accounted for more than 98.5 and 99.1% of total volatile fatty acids in batch and continuous modes, respectively. Illumina Miseq high-throughput sequencing results showed that microorganisms were highly purified and enriched in the reactor. The main genus was Thermoanaerobacterium (66% of relative abundance), which was usually considered as H2 producer in the literature, however, likely played a role as a H2 consumer in this study. This study provides a new method to generate the high producing rate and purity of acetate from syngas.
