The haemulid genera Anisotremus and Genyatremus contain eleven valid New World species. We examined 52 morphological characters of all Anisotremus and Genyatremus species and five relatives. Based on phylogenetic analysis, we propose that two Anisotremus species (Pristipoma dovii and Conodon pacifici) are members of the genus Genyatremus. The primary synapomorphies leading to the definition of these clades come from the oral and pharyngeal jaws. Reclassification of both genera, as well as an identification key, is included. A review of early literature indicated that the type species of Genyatremus is Diagramma cavifrons, as stated by the original describer, and is not Lutjanus luteus, which is not a haemulid.  相似文献

In this article, a disposable magnetic DNA sensor using an enzymatic amplification strategy for the detection of specific hybridization processes, based on the coupling of streptavidin-peroxidase to biotinylated target sequences, has been developed. A thiolated 19-mer capture probe was attached to gold coated ferric oxide nanoparticles and hybridization with the biotinylated target was allowed to proceed. Then, a streptavidin-peroxide was attached to the biotinylated target and the resulting modified gold coated ferric oxide nanoparticles were captured by a magnetic field on the surface of a home-made carbon screen printed electrode (SPE). Using hydroquinone as a mediator, a square wave voltammetric procedure was chosen to detect the hybridization process after the addition of hydrogen peroxide. Different aspects concerning the assay protocol and nanoparticles fabrication were optimized in order to improve the sensitivity of the developed methodology. A low detection limit (31 pM) with good stability (RSD=7.04%, n=10) was obtained without the need of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification.  相似文献

Over 95% of the currently cultivated cotton was domesticated from Gossypium hirsutum, which originated and diversified in Mexico. Demographic and genetic studies of this species at its centre of origin and diversification are lacking, although they are critical for cotton conservation and breeding. We investigated the actual and potential distribution of wild cotton populations, as well as the contribution of historical and recent gene flow in shaping cotton genetic diversity and structure. We evaluated historical gene flow using chloroplast microsatellites and recent gene flow through the assessment of transgene presence in wild cotton populations, exploiting the fact that genetically modified cotton has been planted in the North of Mexico since 1996. Assessment of geographic structure through Bayesian spatial analysis, BAPS and Genetic Algorithm for Rule-set Production (GARP), suggests that G. hirsutum seems to conform to a metapopulation scheme, with eight distinct metapopulations. Despite evidence for long-distance gene flow, genetic variation among the metapopulations of G. hirsutum is high (He = 0.894 ± 0.01). We identified 46 different haplotypes, 78% of which are unique to a particular metapopulation, in contrast to a single haplotype detected in cotton cultivars. Recent gene flow was also detected (m = 66/270 = 0.24), with four out of eight metapopulations having transgenes. We discuss the implications of the data presented here with respect to the conservation and future breeding of cotton populations and genetic diversity at its centre of crop origin.  相似文献

The potential toxicity of mercury (Hg) content in fish has been widely evaluated by the scientific community, with Methylmercury (MeHg) being the only legislated species (1 mg kg−1, maximum concentration allowed in predatory fish). On the other hand, selenium (Se) is recognized to decrease its toxicity when both elements are simultaneously administrated. In the present paper, the total content of Se and Hg and their species in fish of high consumption, such as tuna, swordfish, and sardine, have been evaluated. The percentage of MeHg is higher than 90% of total Hg content. The results show that, for all of them, the Se/Hg ratio is significantly higher than one, being the maximum ratio for sardine. As only studying the bioaccessible fraction the extent of a toxic effect caused by an element can be predicted, the bioaccessibility of both analytes through an in vitro digestion method has been carried out. The results show that MeHg in all fishes is very low bioaccessible in both gastric and intestinal digestion. Because the MeHg bioaccessible fraction might be correlated to the Se content, the potential toxicity cannot be only related to the total Hg content but also to Se/Hg ratio.  相似文献

The strength of biotic interactions is generally thought to increase toward the equator, but support for this hypothesis is contradictory. We explored whether predator attacks on artificial prey of eight different colors vary among climates and whether this variation affects the detection of latitudinal patterns in predation. Bird attack rates negatively correlated with model luminance in cold and temperate environments, but not in tropical environments. Bird predation on black and on white (extremes in luminance) models demonstrated different latitudinal patterns, presumably due to differences in prey conspicuousness between habitats with different light regimes. When attacks on models of all colors were combined, arthropod predation decreased, whereas bird predation increased with increasing latitude. We conclude that selection for prey coloration may vary geographically and according to predator identity, and that the importance of different predators may show contrasting patterns, thus weakening the overall latitudinal trend in top‐down control of herbivorous insects.  相似文献

Background

Lactobacillus rhamnosus CRL1505 (Lr) administered during the repletion of immunocompromised-malnourished mice improves the resistance against intestinal and respiratory infections. This effect is associated with an increase in the number and functionality of immune cells, indicating that Lr could have some influence on myeloid and lymphoid cell production and maturation.

Objective

This study analyzed the extent of the damage caused by malnutrition on myeloid and lymphoid cell development in the spleen and bone marrow (BM). We also evaluated the impact of immunobiotics on the recovery of hematopoiesis affected in malnourished mice.

Methods

Protein malnourished mice were fed on a balanced conventional diet for 7 or 14 consecutive d with or without supplemental Lr or fermented goat''s milk (FGM). Malnourished mice and well-nourished mice were used as controls. Histological and flow cytometry studies were carried out in BM and spleen to study myeloid and lymphoid cells.

Results

Malnutrition induced quantitative alterations in spleen B and T cells; however, no alteration was observed in the ability of splenic B cells to produce immunoglobulins after challenge with LPS or CpG. The analysis of BM B cell subsets based on B220, CD24, IgM and IgD expression showed that malnutrition affected B cell development. In addition, BM myeloid cells decreased in malnourished mice. On the contrary, protein deprivation increased BM T cell number. These alterations were reverted with Lr or FGM repletion treatments since normal numbers of BM myeloid, T and B cells were observed in these groups.

Conclusions

Protein malnutrition significantly alters B cell development in BM. The treatment of malnourished mice with L. rhamnosus CRL1505 was able to induce a recovery of B cells that would explain its ability to increase immunity against infections. This work highlights the possibility of using immunobiotics to accelerate the recovery of lymphopoyesis in immunocompromised-malnourished hosts.  相似文献

The evolution of spermatophyte plants involved fundamental changes in cell wall structure and function which resulted from diversification of carbohydrates and proteins. Cell wall proteomic analyses identified a novel family of proteins of yet unknown function, the DUF642 (Domain of Unknown Function 642) proteins. To investigate the evolution of the DUF642 gene family, 154 gene sequences from 24 plant species were analyzed, and phylogenetic inferences were conducted using the Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference methods. Orthologous genes were detected in spermatophyte species and absent in non-seed known plant genomes. Protein sequences shared conserved motifs that defined the signature of the family. Distribution of conserved motifs indicated an ancestral intragenic duplication event. Gene phylogeny documented paleoduplication events originating three or four clades, depending on root position. When based on mid-point rooting, it retrieved four monophyletic clades: A, B, C, and D. A glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor site and one or two galactose-binding domains-like (GBDLs) could be predicted for some DUF642 proteins. The B, C, and D clades grouped the predicted GPI-anchored proteins. First evidence of in vitro interaction of a DUF642 protein with a cell wall polysaccharide fraction is provided. A competition assay with cellulose prevented this interaction. The degree of diversification and the conservation of the family suggested that DUF642 proteins are key components in seed plant evolution.  相似文献

Plant cover loss due to changes in land use promotes a decrease in spore diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), viable mycelium and, therefore, in AMF colonization, this has an influence in community diversity and, as a consequence, in its recovery. To evaluate different AMF propagules, nine plots in a tropical dry forest with secondary vegetation were selected: 0, 1, 7, 10, 14, 18, 22, 25, and 27 years after abandonment in Nizanda, Oaxaca, Mexico. The secondary vegetation with different stages of development is a consequence of slash and burn agriculture, and posterior abandonment. Soil samples (six per plot) were collected and percentage of AMF field colonization, extrarradical mycelium, viable spore density, infectivity and most probable number (MPN) ofAMF propagules were quantified through a bioassay. Means for field colonization ranged between 40% and 70%, mean of total mycelium length was 15.7 +/- 1.88 mg(-1) dry soil, with significant differences between plots; however, more than 40% of extracted mycelium was not viable, between 60 and 456 spores in 100 g of dry soil were recorded, but more than 64% showed some kind of damage. Infectivity values fluctuated between 20% and 50%, while MPN showed a mean value of 85.42 +/- 44.17 propagules (100 g dry soil). We conclude that secondary communities generated by elimination of vegetation with agricultural purposes in a dry forest in Nizanda do not show elimination of propagules, probably as a consequence of the low input agriculture practices in this area, which may encourage natural regeneration.  相似文献
